I was at work...I am always on and professional but I heard on the radio that Chris died and I excused myself and cried my eyes out in the bathroom. Living in a van down by the river!!!!..❤❤❤❤
David, I know how hard it was for you, but what you've done to keep Chris's legacy alive and well, is what true, deep down friendship is. 25 years later you open yourself up to be raw, again, even after so many times. May we all be lucky enough to have a friend who loves us like David Spade. Cheers. You are a good man, kind sir.
A week before Christmas 1997, I’m working at a TV station, browsing the AP wire. I see the news of Farley’s death. All the young people tear up. The newsroom went silent for what seemed like forever. Only Phil’s death equaled the shock. Miss them both. Thanks Dana and David. Well done.
Phil's was definitely more shocking and unexpected. Gilda Radner's was really sad . Steve Martin hosted the show the day she died and he cries during his monologue I think its near the end of the 88-89 season if you search for it. At least I'm almost positive it was in 1989
Few people have persisted in the hearts of so many when it comes to being funny. 25 years is a long time nowadays for pop culture, but the mere mention of his name can make so many people react emotively.
My friend introduced his younger son to Farley for the first time awhile back. After watching the Coffee commercial sketch, the son actually said to his Dad "You knew this was out there the whole time and never told me about it?!"
I’ve been watching different Farley snl clips and movies recently and it always breaks my heart to this day. He will always be the funniest and will always be missed.
I was living in Madison at the time he passed. Friends of mine were managers of the apartment complex where his other brother lived. They said he was very nice, and just as funny. The Midwest is like that
This is why I love FOTW!! Carvey and Spade are such great storytellers - they are so visual! This is a great example! However, with this tribute to Chris Farley it's exponentially magnified with all these guests!! And what a great tribute!! Very hearfelt!! RIP.
Still one of the funniest humans to ever live. Would’ve love to have seen what roles he could’ve played in possible films if he had not passed. RIP. Thanks for making me laugh for literally most of my life so far.
I'm 15, I grew up with snl and other comedians like monty python. Out of every movie, sketch, etc, Chris has always stuck out to me. I got bullied for a time and it was a very dark time for me. Chris got me through it and helped me whenever I was sad. I also struggle with anxiety and panic attacks and he's helped me every single time. I'm a sophomore in high school now, but my very first day of high school I was extremely anxious so I put Chris on. I didn't feel anxious the rest of the day. I'm extremely grateful for him, you (David) and the rest of snl.
What a great group of friends you guys are. I’m 42 growing up you guys were like the older kids we’d look up to. We modelled our jokes and humour after you guys. What a special thing you guys have done with this. Your loyalty, friendship, understanding, values and positivity are a true ever lasting tribute to Chris’ spirit And the huge impact he made and continues to make on people like myself. And the impact you all make as well. Thanks guys!
David and Dana, thank you guys for this. I grew up watching you guys on SNL and never get tired of hearing about Chris. All of you guys killed it in this era idc what anyone says
I'm hearing this for the first time today 1/6/24. Today would have been both my mom and dad's birthdays. I lost my mom in 1991. I was eleven. SNL was one of things my parents actually watched together. Usually dad was in the den (remember those?) watching baseball and my mom was in bed (sick always) watching televangelists. In this interview the references "human garbage disposal" (that's what she called dad) and "wooden spoons" (the last time mom came at me with one i took it from her and spanked het butt and we both laughed). My dad passed almost 2 years ago. Thank you both for literally everything! I could go on for days how cathartic all of your movies and characters and shows have been. Thank you Chris Farley for getting together with my parents today and giving me this gift because this is beyond a coincidence.😭❤ (someday I'll tell you my Joe Dirt connection but I don't want to ruin the magic of this moment)❤❤❤❤
This is one of the Best tributes to Chris Farley. Drug addiction took him from us, I know David still feels like we felt when he died. Chris would have gone on to make comedy movies and tv and to see David and Dana still here talking about him. Chris Farley is in my opinion the funniest person of all time. His football 🏈 attitude brought a physicality to everything he did. All city Madison Wisconsin Nose Tackle. Your Darn Tootin.
David, Dana, and Adam, you have truly honored Chris, and proved what a true brotherhood is. You know he’s loving every bit of it! Blessings to every one of you! ❤
I was in 6th grade and watching tv after school when they said Chris had died. I called my dad at work (something I never dared do before) to let him know. I was sobbing and told the receptionist Chris Farley died and to tell my dad. She asked if we knew him and I was shocked and said no. I was angry she asked because why would that matter? My dad got on the phone and hearing his voice was the first time I thought maybe I shouldn't of called. He was kind though to how heart broken his young daughter was over losing one of the only people on Earth to make the both of us laugh and bring me out of my room to watch SNL or one of Chris' movies with the family.
Adored Chris Farley from SNL. Then I remember I watched Tommy Boy, that emotional scene on the lake.... what a super star. Gone way too soon,.... but I guess only the good die young.
Well another week and now I'm gonna cry lol. He's definitely given me a lot of laughs over the years. I was born in 94 and was immediately watching the last of the Bad Boys ❤️
I really love the things I learned about Chris here. Many thanks, you guys!! I feel grateful for having been around (approx. mid-teens) in his hay day. Cheers and happy memories. 🥂
What a great tribute to one of the funniest comedians that ever graced SNL! Chris was part of the best cast with you guys. He was hysterical & had impeccable timing. He was insanely talented. Yet he had this sweet vulnerability about him. Loved him so much.
Great stuff! I especially enjoyed listening to Chris Farley's mother and brother... It's clear that he got a lot of his sense of humor from his mother and his family...
Great podcast. I loved SNL and especially Chris Farley. His death hit me hard. I was a teenager in ‘97, I loved all of his skits & movies and his loss was tough. Chris’ mom & brother we’re so funny, sweet & kind ❤❤❤
Yes! I love this so much i was ecstatic when i seen this was posted. Im 32 i grew up watching all you guys. I relate to Farley. Im a big guy 6 3. 330 pounds. I struggle with addiction. This is this first time I've heard this and it really takes me back. Back then they were really talented. Can't name any of them now. I'm crying listening to this and I realize how happy, secure and innocent we were.
Wonderful, wonderful tribute, gentlemen! Thank you so much for these stories and discussions about Chris. Any time I watch something with him in it, I do think of what Conan says at the end, that the joy he brings us came somewhat at the cost of his own happiness in life. Perhaps he struggled with troubles that no one could help him overcome, but by some degrees he killed himself to please us all. We shouldn't let it spoil the laughs he will always bring us, but we shouldn't ignore that he paid dearly to be our beloved clown, and we should look to those around us to do anything we can to make sure others don't go the same way.
Having this tribute to Chris 25 years later shows what amazing people you are. I remember exactly where I was when I was told he died. It was heart wrenching. SNL was a HUGE influence on my life. It’s why I work behind the scenes on TV to this day. I’ve seen all your movies and have been a fan for life. Dana and David along with Chris and everyone on SNL have become a part of my fabric of my soul. I’ve enjoyed watching and listening to everything you’ve done all these years. Loved loved you had his mom on. And that you called her Mrs. Farley!
Farley was easily the hardest I've taken a celebrity passing in my life. There were too many great SNL moments to talk about here, but the chemistry of Farley and Spade was something I'm not sure has been matched since. Much love to Spade, Sandler, Carvey, Myers, Nealon, Hartman, Schneider, and the great Chris Farley. I appreciate all of you, and this podcast is fantastic! Edit: I must agree with the rest, seeing your faces would put this over the top.
This is magical this is love and loyalty to a friend even death and time hasn't faded the love... There could only be one Farley 25 years 50 or 100 it makes no difference we love you Chris and we miss you
True story... wasn't a huge fan of Chris during SNL. Really didn't watch SNL a lot back then. Went to see Tommy Boy in theater when released, and just assumed it would be David's movie, who I thought was awesome. I WAS WRONG. I never LOL'd that loud before, or since. I fell in love with Chris in that movie. David was great, of course. But Chris definitely won my admiration in that film. Incredible talent.
COMEDIC LEGEND!!! Forever grateful for the gems you left us on film & tape; the joy and laughter you gave to all, forever grateful! CHRIS FARLEY ........add the line into a jam! @sandman via the fans!

Thank you so much for doing this guys. My favorite Chris skit was the gay beer commercial 😂 It still get's me! Adam's song about Chris makes me cry like a baby. He was way to young to leave. RIP Chris 💔
Absolutely awesome guys! I really enjoyed that and I also miss Chris dearly. He was like you said, like Kinnison - a big rolly-pollly loud funny dude! The behind the scenes stuff - gold!
I can not believe I listened to the entire show. Holy cat poop. Thank you for this. You can't help but think Chris is always just around the corner. He's gone but not so far away that we we forgot about him.
Chris made such a major impact on me as a kid. I was the fastest kid out of my friends and i never felt like the “cool guy”. Seeing Chris just let go and effect everyone around him really inspired me to just be myself. Whoever liked me did, and whoever didn’t, didn’t.
Farley crushed the Chip and Dales scene. I don't know why he felt bad about it. Like, he held his own and was graceful. I thought he should be the opposite of ashamed because that was brave and seriously just one of the funniest things SNL has ever done.
Second time watching this, it’s riveting every time. It was so long ago and thinking about if this didn’t happen …what would he be doing now?🫤 Dana and David, you two are salt of the earth..🙂 TY
When I was growing up everyone wanted to be Chris Farley and although he (chris) didn't realize that people like me with a similar build with athleticism brought those same jokes to the table, to make people laugh. Pt.1 and 2 were fabulous, I hope they make a movie about him.
Thank you for doing this. Man Chris was such a big part of my childhood. My humour was probably shaped by his influence. I have a roller coaster photo from 1994 where I was doing the “Bennet Brauer” lol
I'm now 40, but Chris Farley was my legit hero when I was a kid. Your whole group of friends was so amazing to me but being a fat kid Chris really helped me open up a lil. I probably got through most of life just trying to feel normal was pretty much acting like my version of his characters. But you all were on snl when I was in my early teens and you all are like Elvis to me. Everyone of you all are just great thanks for the decades of memories, from The Dana Carvey show to, Your my Sister, to Norms ass Crack on Grown Ups.
It’s funny that they talk about family films because tommy boy and black sheep were not only films we used to watch together but films we STILL quote to this day. Two of the few films my siblings and I liked that my parents also laughed hard at. Cheers!
I just imagine the movies we couldve had! Chris and Kevin James and Spade, Sandler and the rest wouldve been so awesome! His passing happened when I was 10 and it struck me even then I still remember the moment I heard and was so sad.
I worked in an ice cream shop (The Chocolate Shoppe), not far from the Farley's home. The Farley family used to come in semi-regularly. The brothers were crazy including Chris. They'd come in always trying to entertain each other and people around them. They'd buy ALL the ice cream cookies in the case. Their mom and their sister were super sweet, polite and kind. I had a lengthy conversation with Chris at least once. At the time he had just finished Beverly Hills Ninja. He was super chill and had lost a bunch of weight. He asked me a ton of questions, as if we were neighbors. Just a down to earth Sconnie guy. It was neat to see him in a different light than his comedy persona. I'm sure the pressure to be on 24/7 was difficult to maintain. Farley's talent was really undervalued. Certainly he was funny, but Chris had the ability to surface vulnerability that drew the audience in. In some ways we was giving us all a reason to remember to just laugh at ourselves and lighten up a bit. I wish he had given himself enough time to turn the corner on his career to a dramatic actor. Like Robin Williams or Jim Carrey. I'm sure there were some roles that only he could have given service to. I think Chris could have played some Oscar wining performances. In any case, very happy to see Spade and Carvey keeping his memory alive and remembering their good friend. Class act fellas. Thanks much. RIP Chris.
Watching this caused me to to read "The Chris Farley Show" by Chris's brother Tom. Great insight into Chris's trajectory and struggles. Many of us would LOVE to see a Norm tribute of the sort you did for Chris and for Phil Hartman. Norm is widely loved and well-regarded by fans of several generations. Please consider it. And get that Adam Eget on there if possible!
I was at work...I am always on and professional but I heard on the radio that Chris died and I excused myself and cried my eyes out in the bathroom.

I don't think Chris truly understood how much he was loved❤

Hearing Mrs Farley on this is awesome. She sounds healthy and funny and quick witted like Chris. That's beautiful David and Dana got her for this ❤️

They were so sweet with his Mom!
I wish I could give her a hug after listening to this. How cute that she asked them to call by her her first name instead of Mrs./Mama Farley.
whenever I see Kevin James in the Grown Ups movies, I can't help thinking that role was supposed to be played by Chris!!
Obviously
dey even started tha movie idea back in tha mid 90s
Of course it was made for him i knew it from day one kevin james held it down tho
Chris was a much funnier fat guy
Kevin James is the poor mans Chris Farley.
This is terrific! Chris Farley is in my “Top 5 All-Time Favorite SNL Cast Members” list.
Number one for sure

Thank you for doing this. Man Chris was such a big part of my childhood. My humour was probably shaped by his influence. I have a roller coaster photo from 1994 where I was doing the “Bennet Brauer” lol
My favorite moment in Tommy Boy, was David & Chris crying over the deer 🦌
It made me finally connect with David’s character.
Love Chris Farley. The ‘Living in a van down by the river’ skit? A classic.
Mrs. Farley is hilarious! So quick and witty
Chris was truly one of a kind. He helped define Generation X.
It’s funny that they talk about family films because tommy boy and black sheep were not only films we used to watch together but films we STILL quote to this day. Two of the few films my siblings and I liked that my parents also laughed hard at. Cheers!
Chris was a force of nature. He, like John Belushi, was a gigantic comedy bowling ball. I loved them both.
I just imagine the movies we couldve had! Chris and Kevin James and Spade, Sandler and the rest wouldve been so awesome! His passing happened when I was 10 and it struck me even then I still remember the moment I heard and was so sad.
Thank for doing this.
Just saw Adam and Rob Schneider, last week in Sacramento. There wasn't a dry eye in the arena when Adam sang "Farley" very emotional.
Don't know how cast members & guests could keep in character, during the "in a van by the river" skits. Gut busting still!
:) They barely did. ('Cause it's live t.v. and Chris is irresistibly hilarious.)
@@anitaspencer7526 Agreed. Him and Paul McCartney was priceless!
This is wonderful
This is the best episode, hearing the softer side of your peers and... the tuna sandwich loss.
Nice jacket. Who shot the couch?
Thank you, this was really great❤
Great show as always. Love you guys
RIP Chris.
Makes me sad. My favorite comedian ever
It doesn't feel like he's been gone 25 years, however I do feel f-ing old as F! 😊
And get that Adam Eget on there if possible!
can we get some video guys?
