Sheng Yilun looked so fantastic at the variety show when he was introduced as the male lead for the drama that I could not understand why the makeup people made him up to look less in the beginning episodes. After rewatching this many times, I finally realized the reason they did that. Yujin hated to be told that he was good looking and since he knew all the theatrical people in town, he of course learned how to make himself look less. Sheng Yilun really is a different kind of actor. I love him. I love his great acting and his singing of the theme songs. Then, there was the dance. Even though he was dressed and made up like a woman, he managed to appear masculine by performing moves like jumping high up in the air and coming down for a landing, whipping the skirt around like a warrior, dragging the long sleeve across a wide span of the floor, looking coquettishly with a piercing gaze and spinning the fan. Amazing!
“It may be a nice and to be told love story” may well be the best line among all the episodes. Superb screenwriting! Thank you. I have watched this show over a dozen times now. There is no better screenplay, acting, costuming and music anywhere including in the U.S. The only close second is “Arsenal Military Academy” which also had great screenwriting and acting, in that case with Bai Lu instead of Ma Sichun. But the two taken together beat out any other two films I have seen in my life! WOW!
What a great double irony-with Peter Sheng’s face being so “pretty” that he can be assumed to be a female or a gay male. Irony number one. But then Ma Sichun’s role is to look and act like a male so she can lead an army composed of men. Second irony. This whole episode is written so artfully. Amazing!
I have watched this drama three times before and loved it every time, especially the gradual character development of Yujin, which is only possible with a great actor. Thank you Sheng Yilun for the great acting. I am never one for the sudden transformations, brought about with makeup and clothing. He made me laughed, cried and everything else in between. I love Sheng Yilun's singing of the theme songs in this series and in Go Princess Go. Love his dancing in both series too and in the dance contest.
At first I'm a k drama addict, but when I started watching some Chinese fantasy drama, I became a fan and finally you could say now that I'm addicted to it (all Chinese fantasy and historical drama). I don't watch kdrama anymore.. though most Chinese drama don't have English sub, so sad!
I have said this before and it is still valid in my view-namely that this is the best tv/video series I have ever seen in my entire life. The acting, the screenplay, and the prelude and closing songs are all beyond compare! Bravo!
This is one o the best chinese dramas. If you are hesitating to watch this, then watch this to satisfy your curiousity. You’ll finally be hooked. Been avid viewer of historical drama and once I don’t want the plot, i will stop watching but this one made me enjoy all 60 episodes. Kudos to the cast and all the people behind this drama.

One of the best c-drama I've seen , made me laugh on every episode, admire the realistic dialogues, the drama, adventure, romance, politics, battle scenes etc. all rolled into one interesting & great ending drama. I love the blue uniform of the Ye Army and all the cast especially the main leads. I've referred it to friends who have just started watching Asian dramas. I finally finished watching Sheng Ylun in the 2018 Shake It Up dance contest. The contest was the Chinese version of the US Dancing with the Stars. Dance teachers/professional dancers were paired with the stars or actors. Most of the stars/actors were trained to dance as kids except Sheng Yilun (he took lessons only to do the dances in this series) and one actress. The teacher Sheng Yilun was paired with had watched Oh My General and wanted to dance with him when he first walked onto the stage for the tryout. It was hilarious to watch her jumped into his arms so he could carry her off the stage after the pairing. What a fantastic actor Sheng Yilun is to be able to bring the character of Yujin to life with a physique like his.
I love the leads actors together in this drama. The male actor is phenomenal in this drama. U know the actors are great in their performance when you can't wait to see their faces. But waiting for them to to say I LOVE YOU to each other. It never happened

With this great new, Emperor conferred General Ye Zhao a title as the Great General as well as a command to return home triumphantly and receive the rewards. However, The Emperor received letter from Ye Zhao which describe thanks for Emperor favor and begs for forgiveness for disguised as a man. The emperor was so shock after seeing this letter. He cannot believe that. Ye Family is legendary existence for the country. From the foundation of the country until now, each generation has served in the military. Total of 13 people form Ye family sacrificed their lives for the country. Therefore, Ye Family was conferred the Title of Duke of Zhenguo. 8 year ago, the Liao invaded and rampantly fobbed the 18 provinces. At that time Ye Zhao father Ye Zhong was lead three hundred thousand soldiers and go to military campaign. 16 year old Ye Zhao, requested to lead the vanguard of army soldiers with an ingenious plan. Ye Zhao lead cavalry of five thousand men and managed to break apart twenty thousand of Liao army forces and captured the enemy commander. Ye Zhao continue his success throughout the war and Emperor reward Ye Zhao as Military Officer, Loyal Military General. However, Ye Zhao father Ye Zhong always refused the reward and said Ye Zhao does not hope to be military official. The great grandfather said Ye family has no daughter only that one son that his organ is not the same as usual man. The emperor finally gave up and discussed with his mother (Empress Dowager). The Empress Dowager finally advice the Emperor to bestow Zhou Yu Jin , emperor nephew and Ye Zhao. Emperor also think it is a good idea to marry his female general off to his nephew. My only language is English and I watched this drama more than a year ago. I loved and understood the whole thing. Why do I see ‘cousin’ where ‘nephew’ use to be? Nephew was correct. They are her brothers boys who was killed in war. This is my 3rd time watching it. Shows what an impact it made on me. The translations and music was beautifully presented. One of my top 5 dramas ever. My top 4 are “Mother”, “Last”, “Go Ahead”, “My Mister” and “Oh My General”

At minute 38: What a great double irony-with Peter Sheng’s face being so “pretty” that he can be assumed to be a female or a gay male. Irony number one. But then Ma Sichun’s role is to look and act like a male so she can lead an army composed of men. Second irony. This whole episode is written so artfully. Amazing! Thank you!

Yoyo thanks to Rouyan who exerted effort in translating this movie up to ep 7, I believe that chinese language is a little bit harder to translate into english, but then it would be more enjoyable if Yoyo could also assist in translating because Filipinos love chinese movies because of its amazing settings, dresses/customes and beautiful and handsome actors.

After watching this and the AGe of leGENDS with Ma Sichun as the main female lead,I can't get over it. She really exceeds the role and aura of a powerful woman😊. I have watched many more action dramas after these two but I always end up comparing the female leads with ms. Ma😂.

However, I want to share summary of my understanding of this episode 1.
Ye Zhao is a General who went on an expedition for eight years and finally destroyed the city of the northern Liao and recapture the lost territory of the country. With this great new, Emperor conferred General Ye Zhao a title as the Great General as well as a command to return home triumphantly and receive the rewards.
However, The Emperor received letter from Ye Zhao which describe thanks for Emperor favor and begs for forgiveness for disguised as a man.
The emperor was so shock after seeing this letter. He cannot believe that.
Ye Family is legendary existence for the country. From the foundation of the country until now, each generation has served in the military. Total of 13 people form Ye family sacrificed their lives for the country. Therefore, Ye Family was conferred the Title of Duke of Zhenguo.
8 year ago, the Liao invaded and rampantly fobbed the 18 provinces. At that time Ye Zhao father Ye Zhong was lead three hundred thousand soldiers and go to military campaign. 16 year old Ye Zhao, requested to lead the vanguard of army soldiers with an ingenious plan. Ye Zhao lead cavalry of five thousand men and managed to break apart twenty thousand of Liao army forces and captured the enemy commander. Ye Zhao continue his success throughout the war and Emperor reward Ye Zhao as Military Officer, Loyal Military General. However, Ye Zhao father Ye Zhong always refused the reward and said Ye Zhao does not hope to be military official.
However, after the death of Ye Zhong and his two son in battle field, Ye Zhong take place his father position and lead the military to fulfil her father’s will. Ye Zhao fight many battle and always win in these battles. So, Ye Zhao to became known as living Yanwang(god known to judge the dead and preside over the Hell’s.)
This kind of man how could be a woman. The emperor confused with this and asked to Ye Zhao great-grandfather who is now 98 year old. The great grandfather said Ye family has no daughter only that one son that his organ is not the same as usual man.
The emperor finally gave up and discussed with his mother (Empress Dowager). The Empress Dowager finally advice the Emperor to bestow Zhou Yu Jin , emperor nephew and Ye Zhao. Emperor also think it is a good idea to marry his female general off to his nephew.
Emperor’s nephew, Zhou Yu Jin is very beautiful and weak. He is very famous for his look.

My only language is English and I watched this drama more than a year ago. I loved and understood the whole thing. Why do I see ‘cousin’ where ‘nephew’ use to be? Nephew was correct. They are her brothers boys who was killed in war. This is my 3rd time watching it. Shows what an impact it made on me. The translations and music was beautifully presented. One of my top 5 dramas ever. My top 4 are “Mother”, “Last”, “Go Ahead”, “My Mister” and “Oh My General”
