Thank you so much for being honest and fair. I’ve heard so many Texans online trash in California. Even to the point of outright, vicious judgment or vicious assumptions, if you will. To me that just proves the gullibility of humans in general. They hear the stereotypes so many times and they actually start believing it. I’m someone who doesn’t like that shit. Whether it’s a Californian doing that to Texans or vice versa. I very much dislike people who are viciously judgmental like that. I actually once stood up to Texans to one of my loved ones for doing that stuff to Texas. That being said, I’ve been to Texas once only for two days for a wedding. But that little time I spent there I loved it. Being an ass is a choice, regardless of where you’re from. Most Texans I’ve met were some of the most kindest most open-minded people I’ve ever met.

Native California here. I lived at the very bottom of the tax/class bracket having grown up in the agricultural central valley of Northern CA to now living comfortably financially in the Sacramento area. I'll gladly pay an extra few cents on the dollar for the weather, access to outdoors and national parks and job opportunities.
No other state has the landscape, weather, diversity, opportunity. I would not live in any other state. Grew up in the Midwest, have lived abroad, traveled the world, and visited 49 of the 50 states. There is no place like California.
I'm used to 100-110 degree dry heat in California's Central Valley, I can live with it. However, 2 weeks in Houston one July a few years back was pure HELL. Florida is just as bad, too. I'd be very hesitant to give up CA weather for the sticky, oppressively hot and humid southern states.
I grew up in California (both SoCal & Silicon Valley), then lived in Texas for 20 years as an adult, then moved back to the LA area a few years ago. Both CA and TX each have their ups & downs, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. TX is great in a lot of ways (friendly people, great food, beautiful countryside, rich history & culture, and certainly a lot cheaper) but the weather can be really hard, guns are absolutely everywhere, real estate prices are steadily rising, and the politics are increasingly oppressive for many people. Bottom line? I know several parents who are leaving Texas to protect their children, and many who’ve been priced out of the cities they grew up in. OTOH, California (and LA in particular) is incredibly expensive, housing & homelessness are huge issues, and wildfires are a real problem in many areas-but you also get great people, some incredible opportunities, and some of the best food, weather, and nature in the world. Like anything, it’s a matter of tradeoffs which all come down to your personal needs & situation. The main thing is: don’t listen to the fear mongering from news networks, social media influencers, or politicians. Those people make their living from sensationalism and have a financial interest in misleading you. Do real research, and try to visit places with an open mind.
Oh, just to be clear: I think Matt’s video here is pretty good and quite fair. California’s not perfect, but it can be a great place. It all comes down to your own particular situation.
Been in Seattle thirty-four years, but originally from Venice/Santa Monica. Southern California is the only place in the country that has a true Mediterranean climate and beaches. That says it all.
I was born and raised in California. Lived in Lake Tahoe for 28 years. I miss the amazing scenery and weather. I moved out in 2020. I don't like the extremely liberal politics, and that motivated me to move. Plus, I'm a gun collector, and California gun laws suck. Four years later and living in Northern Nevada, I feel like I'm starting to really miss California. Wondering if I should give it another year and see how the new bills (like Prop 36) hold up before I consider moving back.

I lived in TN for the last 2 years, and while there is so much to love politically in TN and low taxes-the weather is not my cup of tea. So I’ll be moving to California. Having the best weather and access to so many climates and places is priceless.
I moved to Texas, too, in 2022. After experiencing the extreme and prolonged heat there, the horrendous school system that treats teachers (I'm a teacher) like total crap, I've decided to move back to California. Having been born and raised in California, it'll always be home to me, I suppose.
Thanks for your input. Loved how you touched upon the questions/concerns that people who are contemplating a move to CA might have. I am in NJ and thinking of a move most likely to Northern California down the line. Southern California especially San Diego looks great to me as well. Undecided on the location. First things first as you mention, job is a must. I have to find a job and have a lot more skillsets to be marketable in California. Overall, a great video!
As a native Californian. If you like high prices and taxes plus non stop traffic go for it. It's not going to get cheaper to live year as time goes on. 100k is nothing here.
And odds are more and more people will fall into poverty as California and the federal government continue to hike prices and taxes on every citizen that lives here and wonders why they can’t get the high income earners to pay their share because no one can afford to live here unless you suck the Sacramento governments butt as a corporate lobbyist or your part of the 1% that lives outside of everyone else
Phoenix native living in Denver for 3 years and we are tired of winter and been California dreamin watching your vids for about 5 months! We are teachers with a dog. Just want to find an area that can make us feel inspired, sage, alive, creative. Really love your videos and thank you so much. 2 areas we are pondering are Torrance and Echo Lake… will we be able to park there tho? Hah
Live in Utah, we have always liked California but would not want to move there because of the high prices on everything. Now... that same thing is the case in Utah and most of the inward states, might as well move to CA as there is WAAAY more to do and the weather is unmatchable. We get people from Cali all the time, no idea why they move here. It's no longer cheaper, weather sucks 60% of the year, no ocean, Mormons, etc. They are coming here and I can't wait to get out.
I'm from the south and I'm going back to California. I can't stand the South. There are better services in California LA/ Atlanta is HORRIBLE on SO MANY LEVELS!!!
I'm a middle-aged adult who wants to go back to school, and eventually get a job working in the film industry. One thing I like about the idea of moving to LA, is that it's a city that has a lot of creative vibes, and I feel like it's a place where creativity is valued, not something you use for a hobby because you need to get a "real" job. I have creative skills and I want to be in a place where I can learn how to use them. I live in Kansas, a decent place in itself, but not very exciting, and I like the idea of living in a place where I don't have to worry about icy roads in the wintertime, and having to drive for two days just to see an ocean, or anyplace that I consider a fun place for a vacation. I also like the mix of people who come from places all over the world. In the city I'm working in now, I'm used to driving myself everywhere, so the lack of walkability and public transportation doesn't bother me. I find LA an intriguing place in many respects, in spite of its problems. I'm just trying to figure out how I can afford to move there, since I know that LA is NOT a cheap city to live in!
Depends do you mind driving a few hours? Might be able to find something inland. Also LA is Huggeee I mean Huggeee getting across it can take awhile and the traffic even as someone from Cali (from the bay) is enough to scare me away from it most days. If you’ve never been to a big city and can’t hang with the constant busyness then it’s gunna be a problem, on the top side there’s always something happening and 24/7 food and other amenities you just won’t find in more rural places.
When you said that you recommend a single person make $50k a year to live comfortably in California, I got a bit scared. What industries pay this much out in SoCal / L.A. area? It's just that here in my home state of Maryland there aren't many job opportunities and as a college-educated 31 year-old, I know I need to move somewhere there are abundant opportunities that don't exist here. So, what fields are hiring right now in California? Where I live now is horrible. I want out. But I don't want to leave Maryland without a firm plan in place for employment and housing.
@TheBritishBlokeRealtor Yes I do. I'm experienced and skilled in tourism / tourism management and have been a consultant, mostly for an art gallery and freelanced as a graphic designer and digital marketer. I am just not sure about the job market in SoCal. I would definitely be willing to pivot and get into another industry, i.e. the legal cannabis industry, but I need to know that with only a Bachelor's degree, I could make it work.
@@SurrealisticSlumbersI don't have an official degree as I jumped around post secondary, but the job listings are great down there. I make around 80k Canadian and am applying for jobs in the 135k range. Automotive industry. I also do videography/photography and SoCal is the perfect venue for that. Beautiful backgrounds everywhere you look. Love this state can't wait to get down to my new place !
@@SurrealisticSlumbers I'm not actually a tech, I have worked in other areas of the business at a dealer level though. Currently more on the wholesale side. That being said, service, parts, sales etc are good but the jobs I'm applying for are sales/service related. That's where the money is imo. I buy and sell cars now here in Canada for work so I know the ins and outs of the industry and have a lot of practical knowledge and customer service skills that people seem to value highly as far as what employers are willing to pay me specifically. Again I'm not formally educated, though spent about 6 years in post secondary programs before getting bored and looking for full time employment. Good luck everyone, the American dream is far from dead!

I'd recommend learning how to work on farm equipment and working in the central areas (largest farm area in the world). You can do well in that line of work.
@@mikep.473 i would call automotive shops in California and ask if there is a need for someone with your skills and ask them which cities might be best? Ask more than one auto repair shop ... There are a lot of cars in California so it seems you would have work there.. the problem is housing.
@@livequality4578 Im looking at this point between either Georgia or Edmonton British Columbia at least someplace with a clean public transportation. And Seattle at key has that a better public transit then the whole of California
@@nickoneeach4720 Funny, I don't like seeing the trash pile CA, my native home, became thanks to overzealous liberal policy. The state functioned best when it bounced from red to blue and back on a cycle. The state of CA right now, home of Big Tech and Hollywood yet somehow has a budget deficit, is evidence that Democrat policies do not work.
I live in WA and really want to move to CA. The almost 200k a year makes me nervous though. I am single with a child. I make close to 125k and would probably make 150k in CA, ya think its possible? Id be renting at first and dont mind living small and simple. Honestly where i live is already super expensive. When i look at rentals it doesnt seem much different than Seattle area.
We got a house in very late 2009 so rent is affordable compared to most homes here . But overall its way too expensive overall to afford here, and homeless, crime is too high. California 2024 is just way worse than before
I would love to live in California. Colorado is too cold. The cost of living in Colorado is skyrocketing! If I am going to spend a lot of money, I might as well spend it where I want to live. I have been to California a few times and I loved it. The people were really friendly and there is a lot to do. We have a lot of outdoor activities in Colorado, but that gets old.
I live in Colorado and have most my life but I agree it’s not worth it anymore. I was born in bay and have come back many a time and can confirm it’s much nicer in Cali but it is also a little more expensive for sure. But it’s definitely also got more amenities than Colorado no doubt 24/7 food, awesome weather (we all know how bi polar Colorado weather is) and the ocean just can’t be beat. The people are really nice but also can be very flaky (flash back to me sitting on the side of highway 1 for an hour with a flat cuz no Californian would stop for me😅 had to wait for a friendly guy from the Midwest to help.)Or people saying they’ll take you somewhere and you know they won’t lol but with that also comes a very easy going nature people generally have less time for everything including b.s. lol. But again I can’t emphasize enough if you can afford it Cali has the best nature there’s 15 separate ecoregions most tourist in California are just other Californians looking to explore. One guy has been for forever trying to break it into separate states because imo there are like 5 different states in one.
The biggest regret for moving to calli is the woke shit and its a blue stat but yeah if you dont mind your 6 year old seeing a drag show calli is the place for you

I am in NJ and thinking of a move most likely to Northern California down the line. Southern California especially San Diego looks great to me as well. Undecided on the location. First things first as you mention, job is a must. I have to find a job and have a lot more skillsets to be marketable in California. Overall, a great video!
appreciate that. thanks
Thanks for this video! I need info from people like you.
you're very welcome
As a native Californian. If you like high prices and taxes plus non stop traffic go for it. It's not going to get cheaper to live year as time goes on. 100k is nothing here.
And odds are more and more people will fall into poverty as California and the federal government continue to hike prices and taxes on every citizen that lives here and wonders why they can’t get the high income earners to pay their share because no one can afford to live here unless you suck the Sacramento governments butt as a corporate lobbyist or your part of the 1% that lives outside of everyone else
Not to mention all the laws/regulations they keep passing that only affect the law abiding citizens.
buddy were talking about california not texas or florida 💀💀💀
I live on Long Island NY. My dream job is to move to the suburbs of Los Angeles to get a job in the hotel industries, excluding night auditor.
Hah
thanks for watching! Both areas are great. Feel free to email me at matt@thebritishbloke.com if you want to discuss in more depth.
Thank you ❤
Live in Utah, we have always liked California but would not want to move there because of the high prices on everything. Now... that same thing is the case in Utah and most of the inward states, might as well move to CA as there is WAAAY more to do and the weather is unmatchable. We get people from Cali all the time, no idea why they move here. It's no longer cheaper, weather sucks 60% of the year, no ocean, Mormons, etc. They are coming here and I can't wait to get out.
Thanks for your insights. Appreciate that. Yes I think CA is great.
Same thing in Colorado, sky high real estate
What are the best colleges in SoCal that are also not insanely hard to get into??
I'm from the south and I'm going back to California. I can't stand the South. There are better services in California LA/ Atlanta is HORRIBLE on SO MANY LEVELS!!!
Welcome!!
I'm just trying to figure out how I can afford to move there, since I know that LA is NOT a cheap city to live in!
good luck with everything!
California dreaming will never ever die!
@@gabrielspianohouse6583 It already has.
It was just a lyric in a song
When you said that you recommend a single person make $50k a year to live comfortably in California, I got a bit scared. What industries pay this much out in SoCal / L.A. area?
It's just that here in my home state of Maryland there aren't many job opportunities and as a college-educated 31 year-old, I know I need to move somewhere there are abundant opportunities that don't exist here.
So, what fields are hiring right now in California?
Where I live now is horrible. I want out. But I don't want to leave Maryland without a firm plan in place for employment and housing.
Hi. If you move to LA you should have an issue finding a job that pays $50k plus a year. Do you have a degree? Jobs are pretty well paid out here.
@@OctagonOutcome That's awesome. Automotive industry (assume you are a mechanic), I can definitely see as lucrative.
I can't thank you enough for your awesome information.
Appreciate that. Thank you
Not worth it. Born and raised in the bay area. If your not from here or dont have roots you dont belong here in this day and age
There are assholes everywhere. Being an asshole is a personal choice.
I’m also from the bay area and have been living in Colorado for most my life at this point, I miss Cali so much. Denver is just as pricey as Cali at this point so I was like F it I just wanna go home. But is it worth it to go back home? I miss the ocean the most I’m not really into jogging surfing is the only exercise I ever enjoyed
Yes, yes you will. Cost of living will destroy your happiness.
And traffic. MASSIVE amounts of traffic
My dream is to be able to live in London, Los Angeles, Rome+Abruzzo & Cape Town (50, 25,10,10,5% or something like that :D) am I asking too much? By the way, I believe Cape Town's weather is probably better than LA's.
The weather is good in Cape Town!
I use to live there. Not any more. California is not as bad as everyone says. It is worse.
Im in NJ was living in WA for 2 years considering a CA move in 2026 for career after i finish my education I'm looking for suggestions where I'm single and 25
I love California & I would love to live there someday. Well aware of high COL but LOVE the weather & scenery. I know people that have moved there that are very happy.. they say we definitely pay a premium but it’s worth it.
agreed! Thanks for your insights!
Yall are getting ripped off moving here. What your saying is your ok with your tax dollars not representing you and going to the state that does nothing but fund the same people who ruined the quality of life here in the first place
Haha I love seeing these counter narrative comments. People want to believe so bad that TH-cam or other social media is all they need to develop their opinion.
Some industrys im interested in pay best in ca, and thats with col included. I havw friends that love cali scenary diveristy people always something to do and everything fr. i maybe move there in a couple years. Im also getting my life together finally, like citys extroverted so i think it would be good for me
I think you'll love it!
What’s the advice for a single 40 year old man with no kids but a job and someone who likes working on his cars ? Regular maintenance not aftermarket stuff
what advice are you looking for? Location to live?
@@TheBritishBlokeRealtor to live
I'd recommend learning how to work on farm equipment and working in the central areas (largest farm area in the world). You can do well in that line of work.
@@mikep.473 i would call automotive shops in California and ask if there is a need for someone with your skills and ask them which cities might be best? Ask more than one auto repair shop ... There are a lot of cars in California so it seems you would have work there.. the problem is housing.
Roses in December
The weather the diverse the food the nature is genial thank you
Left Commifornia 14 years ago and never want to see that hellscape ever again.
Im going to leave that hellscape and move to either Seattle or Georgia for greener pastures
@@KCfusion_ Seattle is no better.
@@livequality4578 Yeah i was down there last week for my birthday and oh boy, is it just like California but at least without the extra taxes
@@livequality4578 Im looking at this point between either Georgia or Edmonton British Columbia at least someplace with a clean public transportation. And Seattle at key has that a better public transit then the whole of California
Eh its ok depending on what you do or area you at but not all that good. Homeless, crime, highest tax .. lot of cons.
Lol love seeing the counter narrative comments. Specifically the people that actually live there.
By narrative I mean the California bashing.
California is wonderful!
Agreed
It took me 3 years of California dreamin to realize it was a nightmare. Move to California if you want to check out of life
I live in WA and really want to move to CA.
$200k is for a family of 4 looking to buy. If it just you and your child $150k a year will be fine.
@@TheBritishBlokeRealtor thanks for the reply!

Let’s get together for a coffee, mate. 😊
What town do you live in? I like coffee.
We got a house in very late 2009 so rent is affordable compared to most homes here . But overall its way too expensive overall to afford here, and homeless, crime is too high. California 2024 is just way worse than before
But the government is closing down businesses.
I will give you a call. I want to know your opinion.
They do it for the money
I wanna move there so badly I'm sick of Florida
Looks very biased 😅
You have to be a millionaire
Ca. Sucks glad i left
Great channel! I live in NC and my long term has bee to relocate back to California eventually. I used to live in SoCal when I was a kid.

Thanks for your comments!
Great commentary I always wanted to live in California!
@@danafelder5624 thank you
I live in Colorado and have most my life but I agree it’s not worth it anymore.
@@ZacharyBelli appreciate this. Thank you
