I was born and raised in California. Lived in Lake Tahoe for 28 years. I miss the amazing scenery and weather. I moved out in 2020. I don't like the extremely liberal politics, and that motivated me to move. Plus, I'm a gun collector, and California gun laws suck. Four years later and living in Northern Nevada, I feel like I'm starting to really miss California. Wondering if I should give it another year and see how the new bills (like Prop 36) hold up before I consider moving back.

Huntington Beach still have active oil wells right in middle of Downtown… not sure if I would recommend that to families. Also if your property is on not properly sealed oil well, it can blow up. Do your due diligence first

You completely forgot to mention the active oils fields in midst of urban core. Culver City to this day has the Inglewood Oil Field active. Also watch out for badly plugged oil wells, they could get combustible.

dumb ass, gangs own the streets there & the police response time is 1hr if at all, & thats coming from the police themselfs. So many gangs there!. Avoid this area at all costs! do not go there ever, I grew up there I know, horrible deadly place!

I highly recommend not moving to LA. All that glitters isn't gold. Living here is a nightmare of an urban dystopia for the average not wealthy person. This isn't the Los Angeles of the 80's or 90's. Huge economic disparity, high cost of living, homelessness, superficial AF people, broken dreams. LA is like a narcissistic lover who initially draws you in with a false front, but when the mask falls off, watch out.

Lived there for years. Drew the line when I couldn't get home because of an active shooting. Didn't want my kids growing up there. Food is good though.

I grew up in California (both SoCal & Silicon Valley), then lived in Texas for 20 years as an adult, then moved back to the LA area a few years ago. Both CA and TX each have their ups & downs, and anyone who says otherwise is selling you something. TX is great in a lot of ways (friendly people, great food, beautiful countryside, rich history & culture, and certainly a lot cheaper) but the weather can be really hard, guns are absolutely everywhere, real estate prices are steadily rising, and the politics are increasingly oppressive for many people. Bottom line? I know several parents who are leaving Texas to protect their children, and many who’ve been priced out of the cities they grew up in. OTOH, California (and LA in particular) is incredibly expensive, housing & homelessness are huge issues, and wildfires are a real problem in many areas-but you also get great people, some incredible opportunities, and some of the best food, weather, and nature in the world. Like anything, it’s a matter of tradeoffs which all come down to your personal needs & situation. The main thing is: don’t listen to the fear mongering from news networks, social media influencers, or politicians. Those people make their living from sensationalism and have a financial interest in misleading you. Do real research, and try to visit places with an open mind.

We’ve been living in Torrance for a couple of years now and absolutely love it. The only big drawback (aside from LA real estate prices generally) is that our neighborhood is 10-15 minutes away from the nearest freeway, which lengthens any commute. That said, there’s an absolute ton of stuff nearby: lots of great food, shops, weekend events, parks, beaches, and a lot of neighborhoods are quite walkable. It’s a really nice place.

Ha, nope. Born and raised for 38 years. Some areas are beautiful, but that all goes away with the homeless camps, high crime areas, smog, pollution, noise, high cost of everything, stupid politics, etc. I got out and went to a southern state. Much happier, better quality of life.
