    Its impressive how ahead of the times they where with animation for the weapons. The movement and recoils look more dynamic than the often more "staccato" animations of other comparable games of the era.

      Should've kept the Tomahawk instead. Fits in way more with the Native American character of Turok. The knife seems so mundane in comparison.

    Awesome game, there's an even older prototype from 1995/96 that can be played via Everdrive on N64 - The prototype features one massive sprawling level, awesome music and as far as I remember weighed in at 80MB compared to the final games 8MB. Things of note in it featured more detailed textures, higher quality audio, enemies also did not disappear. Kinda shows how much had to be trimmed down to fit on a commercial cart - I'm sure it can be played on emulator too.

    This game is amazing. I played it back in the day when I was like 8 or 9 years old. Never finished it, of course, as navigating the game was very difficult for me at that age. I bought the Turok trilogy like 3 months ago and got to play and finish the first game last week. I loved it! Such a fresh air... which is fun since this is retro by all we know. Better than most modern games if you ask me. Amazing video btw!

    • @revenantevil
      @revenantevil  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aww, thanks mate! I played it to death as a kid but struggled with it. Would usually just load up levels with cheats on and explore, hanging out with the dinosaurs.
      Completed the remaster in an afternoon. The controls are just so much better!
      Turok 1 has a vibe like no other, not even the sequels. One of my favourite soundtracks of all time too!
      I could talk about this game all day. lol.
      But I appreciate the comment! This is the second video I ever made and it's quite rough, once I've nailed video editing, I plan on revisiting it.

    This video earned a thumbs up from me! I always find it fascinating when I get to see footage of games from my childhood in that work-in-progress state before the official release, tho I'm glad the textures got improved upon in the final product! I'm a 90s baby, and Turok was one of the first N64 games I ever played! I remember thinking how amazing video games looked back then, from 16 bits to 3D polygons! The 90s were definitely a time of wonder and awe when it came to video games! Anyway, nicely done on the video!

    • @revenantevil
      @revenantevil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 90s were the best! Going from 2D to 3D was something really special. I'm still blown away when I see these early 3D games. Definitely showing my age a bit, lol. Turok was tough for me as a kid, but was able to beat the remaster in one afternoon. Do you still have a copy of the game? Anyways, I appreciate the kind words. Thanks for your comment. I hope to speak with you again! Cheers :)

      @@revenantevil unfortunately, Turok was just a rental for me back then, but I did end up owning an n64 copy of the sequel, Seeds of Evil, at some point. And now i have the remasters for both games on Steam, and been playing thru a mod for the second one called "Ascension," and I'm enjoying that a lot!
      Honestly, I seem to play seeds of evil a lot more than dinosaur hunter. I never even beat SOE on the N64 without using cheats back then, but was able to beat the remaster without cheats (probably one of the reasons being that you can save your game at any point without the checkpoint stations like the n64 needed for saving)! I should go back and beat the remaster of dinosaur hunter sometime!
      I'll say tho, the remasters have spoiled me as far as the controls go, and it makes me not want to ever play the n64 versions again. Lol
      And its no problem. Like i mentioned before, i like watching videos that showcase the very games that i used to play in the 90s in their work in progress states, and I thought you did pretty good on this!

    Dude I swear on the N64 version on the title screen, if you wait like 3 or so minutes random gameplay would occur of Turok in different scenarios where I guess it is a dev showing off gameplay. I remember this one where Turok is in a cave and you can see an orange Chronoscepter in the weapon wheel appear very fast. I don't own an N64 anymore to look back and I used to play this game soooo much back then. I know I'm not losing my mind, it's always annoyed me that I could never find any info on it anywhere.

      First of all, thanks a lot for the comment! I'd never made a video before until my lameduke video :) I had always wanted to but until about a year ago I never had a PC.

      @@revenantevil Windows is probably much better for media production for most people who just want things to work reliably. Damn, that's not a bad rig though!
      Lately, I've been really into salvaging and repairing old stuff. I sold my modern-ish build (4th gen i5, 16 GB, GTX 1060) )to my youngest brother who wanted to get into PC gaming a couple of years back.
      So, now it's a 1st gen i7 @4GHz, 16 GB, GTX 970. All of it from old scrapped PCs. The case is from the early 00's with Sound Blaster and Windows 98 stickers on the front.
      😂👍
      Running arch Linux it's very usable and feels snappy doing everything I want it to. I'd much rather not know how much power it draws though.
