    I find myself being a lot like you. I have enjoyed watching and learning more about dahlias. I also get the biggest kick out of your bloopers. It shows us that you are just like us and I love it! You have made me laugh out loud and these days that doesn't seem to happen much for me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! Keep posting!

    I like them all but I think my favourites are Edith Jones and Night Butterfly. Thanks Annette for sharing 💐

    April heather is just so gorgeous. My fave of all of those, and I would love to get Totally Tangerine. I have Blue Bayou but it was a fail last year, had weak bendy stems, was very unhappy, and the leaves always looked droopy - I see it is coming up again this year and once again, the leaves are drooping at the first sign of any heat and its only early Spring. Night Butterfly is gorgeous too - I have Mary Evelyn - very similar. Lovely tall strong stems last year

      Yes, April Heather is new to me this year and I just love it!. I've not had any problems with Blue Bayou - they seem to do well for me and I even left one in by mistake 1 year and it came through the winter! Night Butterfly and Mary Evelyn are really similar, side by side, they look like sisters 😄 Sounds like you have a great collection too!

    This is so helpful to see them side by side , The ones I ordered this year are a bit disappointing. I should of paid more attention to flower size. They are all on the smaller size, I thought I was ordering larger one so thank you so much for doing these comparisons. 🥰

      Hi Danielle, that's so kind of you, thank you. I love Blue Bayou too - it was one of the very first dahlias I grew and so has a special place in my heart. Hope you get some great new flowers from your seeds. 🌸

    Such a helpful video as these types are my favourites. Could you tell us where you normally buy your tubers ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm so glad you found it helpful. I buy many of my dahlias as Mini plants (newly rooted cuttings) from Halls of Heddon. They are fantastic quality and more economical than buying tubers and they will flower the first year and form tubers. I buy tubers from Rose Cottage, and ocassionally from Farmer Gracy, Peter Nyssen and Sarah Raven.

      @@cottoverdi thank you for the tip about buying mini plants . I’ve only been growing dahlias for a couple of seasons . The first lot were tubers and this year in a sale I bought some larger plants in pots. I’ve bought a packet of dahlia seeds for the first time this year to try so if I do mini plants too I can complete the set (!) and work out which sort is best for me.

      @@cottoverdi hello again Annette I wonder if I could cheekily ask your advice . I suspect you’re far too smart to do what I have done but when I was buying some tulip bulbs I saw the company was selling three dahlia tubers for £3.99 and thought oh goody that’s a bargain. They’ve been delivered this week and I’ve suddenly realised I have no idea what to do with them. It’s obviously not planting time . Do I just put them in some compost or vermiculite and start over wintering them right now ?

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wjs5773 That really was a bargain! However, I have never bought dahlias at this time of year. If it is cold enough where you live, then you can put them into storage straight away but my worry would be that if it's warm, they will start sprouting! If you live in zone 8, then you may well have another 4-6 weeks before your first frost so I would be inclined to plant them, even if they don't flower, it will keep the tubers safe. Hope this helps a little, let me know how it goes!

      @@cottoverdi thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I live in London so despite the rain we will stay warm for many weeks. I’m going to plant them now in pots and bring the, in with my other dahlias at the first frosts. Then we shall see what happens to them next year.
