  • 7000 Subscribers wow thank you so much everyone!! :)
    Part 2 of the EICR I carried out a few weeks back. In this video we focus more on the testing side of an electrical installation condition report. With some very interesting readings coming back from my MFT, it's easy to see that this old installation has been messed with once or twice over the past four decades!
    Unfortunately some of the footage was lost probably due to pilot error? So you'll have to bare with me as I cross my fingers and hope it all flows across ok and doesn't end up looking like a monkey found a camera and started vlogging in an old house in Manchester?
    THIS VIDEO IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT TO BE TAKEN AS ANY KIND OF TRAINING OR EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION. AT ALL TIMES I AM IN FULL CONTROL OF THE INSTALLATION AND THERE IS NEVER ANY RISK TO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT. ELECTRICITY SHOULD BE GIVEN THE FULL RESPECT IT DESERVES.
    Thank you for watching especially if you've subscribed and have bothered to read the description.

    The earth for 2.5mm² cable was increased from 1mm² to 1.5mm² in BS6004 in 1981 according to the 15th Edition guide I still have here. Looks like someone did the sums and realised it needed to be >1mm² when a 30A BS3036 rewirable fuse was used.

    Thanks for the video Jamie. As an aspiring sparky I love anything to do with testing and interpretation of the readings - helps when you can have a giggle as well.

    Won't stick around typng for long as it's v late, but really appreciated this and the part 1 and also enjoyed watching the dodgy shower with the 1mm flex in it. Nice that no one was living in that house, I've got a right pain in the arse one I said yes to before christmas, not realising it has 40 plus circuits about 25 of them not labelled, and fridges, cookers, filing cabinets pulled up against fused switches, extra little boards, emergency lights (4 out of 17 working)... now realise I'm gonna be back there monday after monday until it's done (it's commercial) with consequent delay in payment for any of it.... anyway, all the best, brilliant videos, see you soon again. ttfn

    Do your quote for a full rewire and earth upgrades as required , if the landlord doesn't wanna do it walk away and do a nice job, all you can do is recommended to the landlord , it's their money , but if Tennant gets electrocuted or house sets on fire it's their problem

    On the IR test of shower when you did the link from L to N and onto earth bar in board was the cpc back in the earth bar or loose as most other cpc'c had been disconnected. Just curious as this would have given a +999 reading without really testing it.

    It's a nicer place than where I was yesterday, changing sockets and doing testing the ring final circuit in a house that had flooded with about 3' of water in Worcestershire, mud and sludge all over the place trying not to drop a screwdriver or the test leads just so the power can go back on. Heaters were disconnected as they were quantum storage heaters and likely water in the circuit boards

      I often wonder what the situation is where flooded homes are wrecked every time we get a storm? I guess they'll be a lot of work going on in affected areas?

      @@JBE Yeah me too, was wondering about DNO supply in a house flooded. Do the DNO actually disconnect the area supply or does the sub main transformers automatically trip?.. out of sparkys scope i guess, but interested to know.

She asked why these problems did not show up 5 years ago. I no what I would of liked to of told her but I did not.

    Full rewire is about the only thing going to redeem that complete mess. Not sure what you do with the solar fitment though? Leave it isolated if a rewire goes ahead I guess. Looking at the state of that building in general I doubt It will get a proper refurb.

    Jamie, Don’t you ever get tired of rectifying shite like that? Wouldn’t it be a nice surprise to do an EICR on a property where a conscientious sparky had wired and 2nd fixed the original install but it seems like the latter with many YT sparks.

    • @muzikman2008
      @muzikman2008 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Kewtech KT65DL MFT does PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) as well as 17th/18th edition testing, I have the same MFT. The earth bonding tests are slightly different for class 1 & 2 appliances. This MFT gives you both options. A great tester.

    • @muzikman2008
      @muzikman2008 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It looked like it was threaded through the ceramic holder, than through each brass contact, and twisted at the side of the holder avoiding the screws in the brass terminals.I'm guessing someone tried changing a blown fuse, and lost the screws, and just twisted the ends of the fuse wire together, lol.. crazy! but we see this all the time unfortunately. Better than a nail i suppose...

      @@muzikman2008 agreed 👍. In days when the man of the house changed fuses and light bulbs, this was probably just that..an on site repair. I bet he stood back and was all proud of himself?
