My sister once saw a baby humming brid on the side of a road on a really how day.. She called me and told me to help her deal with it. I ran over to where she was and put the poor thing in a shoe box. I walked very carefully home and we had to take care of it for a few days and we had a lot of success. We had to feed it small insects and we had to give it a A LOT of sugar water. After about 1 week of caring for it, it began to fly around my room. We though it was time that we should let it go into the wild. We brought it outside but it would not leave my hand. I set it on the grass but it flew up to me.. After about 1 more week of caring for it, we brought it outside and it began to fly away... I love happy endings!
When a bird is injured it goes into shock. Just pick it up, put it in a safe place and they will fly away after about 15 minutes. Learned that with a Cardinal last summer.
We had a cardinal hit our window we thought it broke his neck but I guess he got knocked out hopefully he made it but he did fly so I guess that's a good sign
The same thing happened to me at work. poor little guy slammed into our window and was totally knocked out. we were gonna leave it be, but then we saw a stray cat. We had to sit outside with it in my hand for quite a while before it was ok to fly. it was amazing!
Jimmy Nuttron I don't know about any powers, but I do know that holding that tiny little guy was beyond amazing... super humbling even. He was beautiful.
Auto focus is one of the many scourges-uh, I mean wonderful conveniences of modern cameras. Always blurring foreground subjects while highlighting the truly important things in the background, like grass and walls and lamps.
Collision SC- If all mosquitoes turned into hummingbirds then in a matter of days a lot of then would have died thanks to us humans and nature. Many types of insects would probably died out or become endanger since hummingbirds eat insects. I would never want to live in a world where there's next to none insects. That's not even all that would happen.
My cat brought me a hummingbird when i was about 8, is was a bit cut up from the cat, but i kept it a few days and fed it, and it made an adorable little peep sound everytime i left it alone for long, i eventually let it go, though it seemed more like it wanted to stay. Practically had to throw it in the air and run inside. It could fly fine and i'm sure it had a normal life. Amazing little birds. :)
***** all the birds I have ever helped died. I arrived too late for them all beause of being under the rain after a great fall, being too old or being on the floor for a day or more and having his wounded wing eated while being alive by fucking ants
Same thing happened to me, a little bird flew into the window and fell on the porch. He/She was dazed/unable to move so I put them into a cat cage for the night and then the next day they could fly again. :D
Lavezzilc97 What are you on about? Do you really think the cat would be in the cage at the time? Where the heck do you expect me to put the bird, book a 5 star hotel or something. No where did I state I was trying to feed it to a cat, get off the cannabis my friend.

It was still alive, so my mom picked it up and took it with her. My dad was furiouse and told her to put it back where we found her. My mom put her back and I cried. My mom picked it back up and we took care of her/him. After a few days it died from sickness. :'(
Same thing happened to me.... My family and I came back from the park(I think) when I saw something fluffy in the corner if the building. It was a baby bird that fell out of its nest... We fed it and gave it water for a few days. It was doing really well. Turns out it was one of those common birds that need its mom to survive... It died on the third( I think) day. I was crying.... It surprised me how close you can get with an animal in such a short amount of time...
One time, a robin flew into my window, and fell in my front yard. I went out to see if it was dead, but it was moving, and had minor injuries. I took care of it for about a week without my family knowing, but it eventually passed away from old age by the time it had healed. :(
Stu Wright or the father knew that taking the bird would be a death sentence as some birds need their parents to live for the first while... some wont take the young back in after a human touches it though...
Ah,never realized they were THAT small. So delicate, beautiful little birds. So sweet that you were there to rescue it,and it just rested in your hand until it gathered strength to fly off.Well done to you,St Francis need not worry...

Just FYI -- don't put red dye in your hummingbird nectar. There is no reason to, and studies have shown that it might cause damage to them long-term. Just boil water, add 1 part sugar for every 4 parts water, let cool, and then feed them :)
thank you, people who actually care to help these innocent people are those who deserve to live, most humans don't deserve to live as they will ignore those in need.
I found a humming bird once, acting the same way. Apparently they have to eat really frequently or they will die. (High metabolism) I gave it sugar water and in a few minutes it was ok again.
It only took about 5 - 7 minutes for the bird to come around and fly off. The position of the sun didn't change, in the video I picked the bird up from my front porch (which is in the shade) and walked to the hummingbird feeder (which is in the sun).
MyRealityBytes Well, you probably saved that little bird's life by protecting it for that 5-7 minutes. Thanks for the video-you made my day with it. :)
I saved one the other day that flew into my garage, It got confused by my lights and could not find the door. I thought it was going to knock itself out slamming into the light fixture over and over like a beetle does. I turned off the lights hoping it would just fly back out the way it came but it just landed on the fixture and sat there. (most likely dizzy from all the head impacts) The funny part is when i got up there to catch it and take it back outside it just sat on my finger for about 10 minutes before finally deciding to fly away Directly back into the garage. This time when i released it again i had the garage door closed.
Once a ruby throated hummingbird got stuck in a giant spider web in our garden. My dad and I rescued her and I got to hold her as I used a damp cloth to wipe the sticky webs off her wings. Beautiful birds, so so thankful for the amazing chance to see one so close, to hold it even! :)
so cute how gentle you were with her, and how you can easily see how she is slowly getting better. I love hummingbirds, they're just the cutest little dude!
Hummingbirds are so small and adorable. I remember my mom took a picture of one buzzing around her clematis vine before. Looked kinda like the one in this video.
I am 50 and only held a humming bird in my hand once in my life. Let me tell you about it. I was sick, recovering from a bout of very aggressive chemo therapy. I was oh so sick. Sitting in the yard and one came and landed right in my right hand. I talked with him for a good three minutes. He kinda 'squeaked' at me a little. He up and flew away. The next day, the same little guy came back! Again he sat in my hand and squeaked at me. I thanked him for his song and told God 'I get it'.
I remember when i was young and we lived on a farm, my older cousin babysat us for a weekend. A sparrow hit our large window she didn't want the cats to get it so she brought it inside when it was all dazed. i kept telling her to keep it outside cause when it wakes up it will freak out. She didn't listen and we spent the better part of the day trying to get this sparrow out of the house. LOL
Sorry to burst your happy bubble, but I doubt the bird survived. Very few humingbirds survive a window hit unless anti-inflammatories and a painkiller are administered. Observing this bird, it is easy to see it has a problem. It tends to slant on its right side, it doesn't try to escape its worst predator (humans), it cannot stand upright, and it has difficulty keeping its eyes wide open. It also has a slight right shoulder problem. These are all signs of a serious concussion and physical injury. Yes, it flew off but its shoulder will become progressively worse and it'll have one major headache that will impede its flight abilities.
r3nk0 Snarly-Suzie ??? Let me explain to you... For 19 years now, I've been admitting wild birds in distress/difficulty at my own expense. I have a government permit as a rehabber. For nine years, I was getting over 700 wild birds a summer, from the tiniest hummingbird to owls, falcons and whatever that flies. This is not my job. I do this to help them and God is proud of me. I work from my home in another field. Babies must be fed every 20 minutes, 14 hours a day, This, for at least 15 days per baby bird. It takes 12 hours to make the special food preparation (7 ingredients that I make in batches and freeze), the best that will ensure perfect and healthy bone and feather structure. Not Tropican, don't touch the stuff. They are all raised wild and terrified of humans, as it should be. Never any visual contact with the bird. Just keeping heat by convection on featherless and seriously injured birds requires constant checks. I pay all this myself. Snarly Suzie ??? Any long-billed bird that hits a window should never be released before 24 hours. This said, I only wanted to point out observations people should make before releasing a bird. I took the time to explain it and what do I get in return? SNARLY SUZIE... Shame on you!
r3nk0 Thanks. We all learn new things in life...all of us, all of the time. Remember the feather suggestion I gave afterwards. This works. The bird in my photo here is a falcon. This guy was found drifting inert in a chemical pond of graphite molasses, a real mess. He was lucky: no chemicals in eyes, ears, nostrils or inside mouth (beak). Besides the horrible amount of black gummy filth that covered his entire body as well as my kitchen floor after I gave it its first bath, he rewarded me with this very rare photo after his third and last bath. His feathers were still waterproofed and he took off like a real pro when released back in his territory four days later. Falcons NEVER pose for you. They aim straight for your eyes with lighting speed. The two first baths over two days, he never reacted, just like in the video. But the last bath, I had called a friend to control the bird's neck because I knew he was very alert and I had to watch for his talons that were flying left and right. I have many beautiful photos of different species of birds that I've helped, special ones. People often ask me why I do this. I answer 95% of their difficulties are the result of human presence. Someone has to help them. Have a beautiful Sunday. Regards.
Back in my old school in Puerto Rico and hummingbirds were always around the flowers and I enjoyed watching them its so lovely to see them up close and thank God you saved her from being cat food
When i was young i had an old house on my property, and there was a crow stuck inside. It was smacking up against the window, trying to escape. I went inside and reached my hand out. It got on my hand and I walked it up my long driveway. It stayed on my hand till my mother came outside. Its one of my favorite memories. It's like it stayed to thank me.
there just aren't enough humming birds that they do need to be saved even if it's just one. once back up on their wings zomming around they are beautiful and wonderful to watch. my husband is 21 now and last year he just saw in person his very own hummingbird if that says anything.
Not only did you save her, also so gently and carefully trying to pick her up with those big hands. Hard to pick up tiny animals your trying to help without further injury. good job, thanks!
Ooommmggg Adorable. We have a humming bird feeder just like yours! Thank you caring for the bird. We had hummingbirds crash into our window. We saved them as much as we can. They're so tiny and adorable.
From what I understand about hummingbirds, it probably would have died of starvation before anything else. Their metabolisms are INSANELY fast due to how fast they flap their wings so they need to eat almost all day in order to survive. Really glad you picked her up when you did!
I saved one once when it hit a window. They've got ridiculously sharp feet, and it stuck its little talons straight into my fingers without me feeling it. And they really do have really tiny eyelashes, very beautiful :D
I had the same experience. I wish I had thought to film it. I heard the window strike, picked her us and just held her in the palm of my hand as I sat on the porch. She opened her eyes when she heard another hummer wizz by. She began to perk up as she hear another and then two more and she flew out of my hand and disappeared into the tree. What a precious experience!
I had the same thing happen to me. It was an immature one but I fed it sugar water and it looked at me as if to say thank you. That same hummer comes to visit me. You never forget and neither do they.
Beautiful! It's so heartwarming to see people caring for animals and creatures so much smaller than them. So many people don't care at all so this makes me happy :)
We had a hummingbird do the same thing at my job (I work at an elementary school). A teacher almost stepped on him before we were dismissing the bldg. The kids were very concerned for its recovery. This is an urban area and no one knows about hummingbird care. We did google some facts & fed him some sugar water. Another teacher took him home and had him in her backyard in a small shoe box if he wanted to fly away but he didn't. The whole school was sad that he didn't make make it. Glad yoursdid.
you got me all watery-eyed....that was very touching.. I hope you are better now. God Bless you ... I hope that 'humming bird' touches and saves other souls as well ... :)
Sir, you are such a caring person, even made an impromptu stretcher to lift the little fella. It must be pure joy to observe these fantastique birds. Our weather up North is too cold for these little creatures Scotty, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Aah, same thing happened to me as well! I believe it was a baby... smacked itself into our glass door- mom thought it was a goner. I had held it in my hand, gently petting it thinking it was gone as well. It seemed to be dazed, for after I had held if for a bit, it came to its senses and flew away. They're so beautiful, seeing it slow down for once was honestly captivating.

True although they would try to fly away too i guess so maybe something was wrong with its wing

Omg she is so delicate. Shes almost like a fairy, or a fantasy creature.
poor little guy. if we all were gentle to animals and loved them then this world would be a gentle place

I was saying the same thing....everything was clear except for the most important part the subject
yes not good camera..missed the eyes of this beautiful bird

sarcasm on point
why can't all masquitos become humming birds would be a better world
Because lots of humming birds would die fom fogs and stuff
That'll fuck up the food chain.
+Fishbowl10 eh well there are still flies and other insects
you'd want hummingbirds to tear into your skin with their beaks and drink your blood? I'd rather have mosquitos 😂

This happened to me once. I treasure that memory. Hummingbirds are a real gift from God.
You weren't the only one who flew into a window? It hurts.
These are the videos I don't understand why people dislike.
Oh bless such a tiny little bird, bless you for picking him up, glad he was ok in the end, wish we had them in the UK!!!

Just FYI -- don't put red dye in your hummingbird nectar. There is no reason to, and studies have shown that it might cause damage to them long-term. Just boil water, add 1 part sugar for every 4 parts water, let cool, and then feed them :)
Actually, the sugar water doesn't have a nutritional value either. It only attracts them. They need vitamins in their water, which is sold in stores.
mine only will drink plain Ive tried all that store stuff, so I stick with what works!

Regards.

Nice, keep on keeping on !
At least 66 people in this world have no soul.
Unfortunately, i'd have to guess 66 is a minute fraction of the actual figure.
i 84 dislikes ? seriously ?
:D :D
212. strange I find.
Focus being in the ditch the whole time might have something to do with it...
You were incredibly gentle and patient with the tiny bird. Bless you! Glad it recovered!
Back in my old school in Puerto Rico and hummingbirds were always around the flowers and I enjoyed watching them its so lovely to see them up close and thank God you saved her from being cat food
This is the most beautiful rescue I have seen. Such a sweet little humming bird
❤️Poor thing it's so small thank you for helping that poor thing ❤️
I love helping wild birds.
there just aren't enough humming birds that they do need to be saved even if it's just one. once back up on their wings zomming around they are beautiful and wonderful to watch. my husband is 21 now and last year he just saw in person his very own hummingbird if that says anything.
Wow! I knew they were small, but seeing it in your hands really shows it!! And you were so gentle too!!
I like the way the humming bird stares at you with its tiny eyes
Love the care shown in picking her up with a leaf.
Not only did you save her, also so gently and carefully trying to pick her up with those big hands. Hard to pick up tiny animals your trying to help without further injury. good job, thanks!
aww. thanks for helping her and for being so patient with her.
Ooommmggg
Adorable.
He can fly! Hummingbirds are like a wonder of the world.
I had the same thing happen to me. It was an immature one but I fed it sugar water and it looked at me as if to say thank you. That same hummer comes to visit me. You never forget and neither do they.
You have a beautiful heart. Our lives are not superior to any other creatures. We are more selfish and ignorant of other form of lives.
Beautiful! It's so heartwarming to see people caring for animals and creatures so much smaller than them. So many people don't care at all so this makes me happy :)
soooo tiny!!! and that tender touch made me feel warm...
It was lovely to see how gentle you were with the wee little bird. Just lovely. ^_^
God bless you for saving this cute hummingbird. Poor little thing! 😪
Thank you for saving the hummingbird! I just love hummingbirds
I used to have a hummingbird feeder outside and I had an albino hummingbird feeding from it regularly. It was so pretty.
Sir, you are such a caring person, even made an impromptu stretcher to lift the little fella.
It must be pure joy to observe these fantastique birds. Our weather up North is too cold for these little creatures

Thats so cute, I'm so glad Mrs. Humming bird got well and flew away.
I would cry tears of joy if this video had more people put decals on their windows so birds dont see the sky reflected in it and smash into them.
Beautiful little Bird X....Thanks for Rescuing & sharing this ....X
