I never thought that I would say this, but you should have a lot more subscribers. I usually have to watch 4 or five videos to get the information that I need. This one has it all. It's hands-down the best headphone review that ive seen. Listening to this video on a pair of MDR-1Am2 in black because of this video.
Hmm... I’m curious if u experienced any of these issues with them. First sometimes the sound is louder in one side and sometimes on the other and you hear distortion when you’re watching like explosions in a high volume
I'm happy with my LG V60 but noticed they lacked the power to drive Audeze's. I had my volume at 74 out of 75 and it still lacked the juice. Lovely for IEMs and easier to drive headphones, though.
Thanks for your report! I have this headphone in black, but your silver one looks better. I really like the comfort and sound quality. Even though the response is not flat, I enjoy them and can use an equalizer to tame the bass and treble. The only other headphone I have is an old Sennheiser HD600, which is probably flatter response, but I prefer the Sony. It works well with my Samsung Tab S4, and Ok with my phone. I have ordered a Sony walkman NW-WM1A. 😉 Having received the Sony NW-WM1A, the headphones achieve their potential. I can use a balanced connection, which actually does sound better. With the premium Walkman, the headphones are better controlled, with more clarity and detail. These two devices work extremely well together, and I am enjoying music more than I have in years. My only criticism is that there may be slight over-emphasis in the bass and treble, but this can be corrected by the player's equalizer. One could spend a lot more on headphones and not achieve this level of refined sound quality.
what about soundstage? is it intimate" like hd600s? im looking for wide soundstage, i have the oppos pm3 and looking for not narrow soundstage, i have the wm1a player, v shaped sound would be nice now
Thanks for the in depth review. I am currently looking at these as a replacement to use with my plenue D dap. It was good that you tested the cans using two daps instead of what a lot of others do, smart phones, which are fine but I agree with you that a dedicated player is best.
How is the sound isolation? I am planning to use this for my electronic drum kit. Would you recommend it for a purpose like this? (P.s. i know there are studio headphones but a sony mdr 7506 costs almost the same as mdr 1am2 in my country. )
Hi. Thanks for the well made video. I'm torn between this and wh-1000mx3... : I will only ever use a wired connection for a headphone, my head is kind of small, my ears are a bit big and stick out (would these be comfortable?), I use my smartphone to connect to headphones, and music file format is .mp3 although im thinking of getting spotify premium for higher quality music files (that would be downloaded into my phone, not streamed) And I am a student but dont care too much for the NC. any suggestion on which one to get? also, can google assistant be activated when holding down the button on the wire with the in-line remote? I would like that a lot. Thanks for your time.
The WH-1000MX3 are pretty comfortable but after a couple of hours you can feel the heat inside the earcups. Comparatively the MDR-1AM2 are more comfortable. Since NC is not your priority I would recommend you go with the MDR-1AM2 as they sound extremely good.
You talked about a 4,4mm to 2,5mm balanced adapter, but I can't really find one or I'm not sure which one would work. Do you have some recommendations? I know this is an old video, but I'm really interested in these and you described them so nicely! I only have 2,5mm balanced jacks from FiiO stuff
@@threeedog1 Hello, on some portable players or dac amplifiers you can find 4.4 and 2.5 mm outputs. I use a dac fiio Q3 4.4 mm amplifier with my Sony mdr 1am2 headphones. I am quite satisfied. The set is 24bits compatible so with good audio files the sound is excellent
@@antonycruz62120 yeah i had to get a adapter to the 4.4 plug. (fiio also sells those) i love it, so much better then the pc output or receiver output.
Connected to the PC/laptop or phone? Depending on the Dac can make a world of a difference. One of the best in a decent black Friday budget is nano Idsd black from Ifi
Billy Castaneda yes, I did on severel occasions. I had them home for a weekend. Exceptional ANC , features and design. Pretty good sound also, but here I would go with Sennheiser pxc550 or momentum that has a great discount being almost discontinued
Is the sound quality of these are better than xm3's? I want to buy these and i don't need the noise canceling functions of xm3. The am2 is light as a feather as well.
Ulum Özergen very late, but the 1am2 is light years ahead. I’ve been using the 1am2 for over a year, and I tried the xm3 at the store months back. The bass eats everything else on the xm3, the soundstage, imaging and clarity are all worse on the xm3. The 1am2s are a far better choice as barebones, audio quality prioritized headphones
I have MDR-1Am2 and really like it. Just ordered PHA-3. And THEN!! I see the balanced input on the PHA-3 is left-right separated meanwhile the balanced cable provided with the headphone is not. WELL DONE SONY! So, Sony wants you to spend around 1200 bucks and provides you with a cable that doesn't even work for these two devices which are MADE for each other. And wants you to spend more money to buy another fucking cable.
still can't decide between this and wh1000xm2. is noise cancelling/bluetooth feature worth the extra $ and weight or should I go for mdr-1am2. I've tried the previous model at a store and I can remember that it had really nice fit. I have to wear optical glasses and I have piercing on my ears so the fit is really important too. I heard from some other reviewers that this new upgraded ver. has tighter(?) fit. Is it true? I also listen to any music no matter what genre it is as long as I like it. Will this be good?
First name Last name If you want the best sound and comfort go for this one. If you travel and want noise canceling and Bluetooth go for mdr 1000. Don't remember if the old model was looser comparing to this one but for sure I find these to be verrrry comfortable.

thanks for watching; no, only at a specialized service maybe. they are not removable.
hi, do the 4.4mm balanced line make a serious difference difference? how it compare to the mdr-1000 h.ear?
ElectroMac74 yes, makes a difference. Better separation, less crosstalk, better micro dynamic. I like those better
The reason for differences is mainly due to DAPs/AMPs with 4.4mm port tend to have a way better circuit behind the 4.4mm port than their 3.5mm ports.
Is it good for metal ?
