Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is now streaming on Netflix.
Science Saru did an incredible incredible job, they absolutely knocked it out of the park. The animation is beautiful and dynamic!
check out their masterpiece Keep Your Hands Off Eizoken! My appreciation for anime creators/artists/producers increased 3X
@@hitachicordoba Also The Heike Story, which is directed by ex-Kyoto Animation talent Naoko Yamada😊
I'm actually happy for Bryan that even as an early dream and a future unexpected one, making an anime adaptation to one of his greatest works finally came to fruition! Him and the whole team did a really awesome job on the show with art, writing, voicing and music! Proud to say that I truly loved this new turn in Scott Pilgrim!
Here’s hoping some of his other stuff like Seconds gets a chance.
"Oh, they're finally doing american comics!"
Canada: *Am I a joke to you?*
Congratulations to O'Malley and everyone on the team, this show had such phenomenal visuals.
ummm.. america is a continent 🤓
@@BOBJOE-em9tpso mexico iss american too? Awesome!
@@TheRagingfangMexico isn’t American, but it is in the Americas
@@chriswolf8641 same canada.
@@BOBJOE-em9tp Heh, in Japan we refer to the USA specifically as "America", and "Canada" is something separate. If you told someone here that "Canada is in America" they might understand what you are saying, but the first thought would always be "what do you mean? Canada is a different country, no?" XP
Thank you netflix, thank you sciensaru, THANK YOU BRYAN LEE O'MALLEY ❤

Omg yessss
YES.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
FRR, I REALLY WANT ONEE
I'm glad we didn't just get a retelling of the comic or movie. Those versions still exist. Bryan Lee O’Malley basically took his story and did a NEW GAME+! How can anyone be mad about that?
It doesn’t even erase or change much about the established canon. What it does is allow us to learn more about these characters we’ve learned to know and live for so long!
@@alainchristian what it does do is become some woke as narrative about original Scott bein toxic and Ramona doing it better lmao
@@kenzor4953 if you’re unfamiliar with the source material just say that. Scott was ALWAYS toxic you incel tourist.
@@kenzor4953 question have you even read the comic or watched the show?
@kenzor4953 we've gotta stop calling everything woke, you clearly don't know the characters well lmao
Bryan did such a knock out job of guiding the animators to bring his artstyle to life
As someone who was introduced to Scott Pilgrim universe by this series, it was such a fun experience! Got into a rabbit hole watching the movie then reading the comics in one single day. Really loved it!
SAME
IM SO GLAD I WASNT THE ONLY ONE!! I've been interested in scott pilgrim for a while but I like animation more than live action and the show was right there so I watched it and absolutely fell in love!
You have no idea how happy it made me to have an anime set IN CANADA. With all the little details, made me incredibly happy
You can tell who actually watched the series and who didn't based on the internet tantrums. You guys NAILED this.
truer words have never been spoken
You can tell who read the og comics and who didn't based on the amount of D riding from commenters like this. This is a scott pilgrim spinoff. Good for what it was, but an adaptation it was not. As it was advertised as.
Who would wanna watch it after learning that Scott gets killed off in the first episode?
@@cokebear1337 this is a beautiful example, thank you.
@@cokebear1337😐
I feel like Brian made a deal with the devil or something. I say this with so much admiration and love. So so so many comics fail to capture the essence when converting to a different medium yet each version of Scott Pilgrim seems to make it even stronger. I truly do not know any other properties who have a movie, comic, video game, and now anime that is almost universally praised by its audience. Hats off to everyone involved.
The animation in this series is phenomenal! Every shot is so smooth and incredible to look at. They really outdone themselves!
Really highlights how beautiful and exciting it is when cultures and art can respectfully communicate and synthesize across borders and identities
To preface, I wasn’t a Scott Pilgrim fan before this- I just got hyped for the series because I loved the music and the animation from the trailer. This was legitimately some of the best animation I have EVER seen, and that includes Spiderverse. I loved the new directions for the characters, and I really really loved the way y’all included space into the anime? As in, you didn’t rush to keep everything fast-paced. A lot of the slowed scenes reminded me of those old 80s/90s super detailed, nostalgic cozy animes where simple details of everyday life (especially food!) were animated in such a way to romanticize them. Ramona dying her hair, her making tea, the deliveries, the travels of all the characters… all of it captured the beauty of the quiet mundane in a really spectacular way, especially considering that this is a show with magical vegans and subspace highways running through people’s heads. And oh my gods the Roxie vs Ramona fight scene- especially the last bit on the plane- legitimately made me question whether I was watching one of those old animes, because the style and the sheer /quality/ of the animation was frickin gorgeous. I could go on forever, but seriously the animation is just a frickin masterpiece to look at with how it fuses old and new animation styles. Thanks for putting this out into the world, I love it so much
Scott Pilgrim is getting all the love love it deserves. It started off as a comic, then became a side-scrolling beat ‘em up, eventually became a live action film. Now a full on anime adaptation.
Science Saru is one of the most criminally overlooked animation houses out there. Sure richness and versatility in their animations.
they're so amazing. I'm so glad to have had them take up scott pilgrim and dandadan
@@saurcy28 Devilman Crybaby, Night is Short Walk on Girl, Ping Pong The animation, Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, Inu-Oh, all great projects
"I thought, oh, theyre finally doing american comic" cries in canadian
Wanna guess what continent Canada is in
@@desmo-ciel so mexico is american too? Nice!!!
I am Native American, specifically a tribe that has territory spanning what are now both countries, I have dual citizenship, and I've lived in both the US and Canada. I honestly think it's stupid people think there's any real difference between the two countries, I don't even consider them separate, besides that they have a border. The author is Canadian, but the comic was first published by an American publisher, whom he worked for since 2002. Ramona is based on an American woman, the movie was co-produced by the US,United Kingdom and Japan. The video game was made by studios in Montreal and China, one of the artists who had the biggest influence on the art was Paul Robertson, who is Australian. Mariel Cartwright(she is actually good friends with probertson)also worked on it as an animator, and she is Japanese-American. The studio(Titmouse) who made animated shorts as a promotion for the movie is also from the US. O'Malley has also lived in the US since 2008 and still lives in Los Angeles.
umm, yes it is, is this sarcasm or did you seriously don't know the continent of North AMERICA includes Canada, USA, AND Mexico @@TheRagingfang
@E7AD_E of course i do, but a lot of people dont. A lot of people also think puerto Rico isn't part of the US. When they speak english and use the dollar as currency. Thats what i mean.
Oh man another BTS and it revealed something big about the production. Normally anime follows the japanese first and animates the mouth movement towards that while American dubbers have to match the timing of the flaps; this anime had to animate the American voice actors mouth movements first thus having the Japanese match the lip flaps for their own language. It’s really interesting and lets the movie cast go all out without having to worry about lip flaps. So “hah” to all those who said the movie cast won’t put their all in, because based on the earlier clip, they obviously did and then some. Like Will Forte trying to be like Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat with the Saiyan shout lol. So amazing to see this
no, they found it new to animate to the voices of the actors because in anime production they actually animate first and lipsync the characters to the script, then the voice actors come in afterwards to do their lines and match it to the characters mouth movements.
TLDR: Japanese Anime production = animation first, voices after. Animation production in western Countries = Voices first, animation after
@@theeldude1000 oh my bad, but still lets the movie voice cast be as much as they need to be like how we saw Mary Elizabeth Winstead do her voice work for Ramona
Akira was the first production that did the voices first and later the animation but tgat aproacg is rarely used in any anime made after that.
Idk the lipsync did have it's off moments imo.
Yeah it’s because anime is getting animated while it’s releasing. It stands completely opposite to a western animation is completely finished before getting released.
Thank you, Bryan, Bendavid, Abel, and everyone at Science Saru! THANK YOU NETFLIX! This was so awesome, I've watched it more than once all the way through! So good to see the original cast back and to explore their characters in ways not done before!
It's just so awesome too see this mix of American and Japanese style blended together in this show it's just incredible!
I need to repeat it, even if you dislike the show for whatever reason, you cant say something negative about the visual, animation and set of color of this version.
May be the best looking anime-cartoon i´ve ever seen
did you see a fight sequence from ep 4? that was like really bad, cheap and weirdly paced animation
That fake blur... OMG!
I really hope they release the model sheets to the public someday.
ScienceSARU did a great job! I'm looking forward to seeing their work on Dandadan
Science Saru did an amazing job I can tell they really tried their hardest to match the style. I hope we get a Season 2.
Chances of a season to aren't in the plans right now, BUT I couldn't agree with me. we NEED a season two. The show was SO damn good
the artsyle and animation was honestly just relaxing and satisfying
I love that Ishiyama said that one of his skills is maintaining the specific qualities of an animator’s work. ✨
The animated series is the best scott pilgrim adaptation.
I love that clip studio paint is getting the use it deserves lol 🤩
My anime list has to acknowledge this is an anime now, the creator and Netflix just said it was
Especially with the staff, like the character design pointing it out
It's cool to learn that voice acting is handled differently between American productions and Japanese ones. Being done first in feels natural for American animation because you can watch the performance for inspiration for character acting.
lol this has gone full circle. A japanese animation studio trying to imitate a canadian artist who was trying to imitate japanese animation.
We need an art book of this show!
i think you did something its super hard to do and it´s pushing the story further while pleasing all the fans!! amazing job!!
BIG THANKS to Science Saru for this wonderful scott pilgrim show, Some did find it bad but that doesnt stop us from loving the show entirely. Science Saru will also be adapting Dandadan ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED Anime out there Hope they do their best
Everyone did a very good job creating this Scott Pilgrim anime and the animation that Science SARU did is very well done.
This was the coolest thing netflix has done in forever. I loved this show sooo much
Thank you guys so much. Thank you thank you thank you!!! You made an incredible, heart-felt show and it felt like it was made just for me. I sincerely thank you!
This wasn't just some animie project.
It was a nice an touching moment of friends that came together to create something incredible.
Really great visionaries who managed to compine Anime styled characters into Live-Action background settings!
The animation is my favorite part of this show bro i keep finding new things i like about every shot
I absolutely loved this behind-the-scenes look at the creation! I'm also really happy to see that it was at least partially created in Clip Studio Paint which is a great thing to know. I love that software and I know it's popular in Japan, so it does make a lot of sense ^_^. Great job to everyone who worked on this project. It's incredible and the passion of the staff shines through.
2:51 wow that's my sister favorite episode! And now they're doing my favorite comic series from my teenage years. What an amazing thing to know this studio just keeps bringing to life amazing things for everyone!
Please make a season 2. We all want it, we'll all watch it.
Sir theres a bit of Ramona in my Scott Pilgrim!
(I loved it)
YOURE ANIMATION ROCKED MAN.
This animation is without a doubt another masterpiece of animation.
The people who don't call this show anime are insane.
Brian really inspires me to make my own comic. The only issue is story, idk how he thinks of such amazing stuff in terms of writing
start with characters, then setting (or the other way around depending on preferences) and then get into the plot. just remember to try and avoid coincidenses and deus ex machina
lots of writers (including him) base their work off their real life. scott is basically an exaggerated him and how his life has been with some magical influences
@@NakatesX the basic concepts for storymaking are apparent to me, but to make truly amazing stuff like this is where i struggle 😅
@@toongamer2810 I mean not everyone make stories like this, its pretty apparent with all the lackluster movies and comics out there and its definetally not easy. just work your way up from your basic concepts and try to evolve everything until you feel it to be just right, make all the characters have arcs, make an interesting world, but always remember to establish rules in it (or you get fairy tail(the power of freindship trumps all)).
I hope that this anime receives 2nd season at some point in the future. It was such a gift for the Scott Pilgrim fans.
THAT EPISODE OF ADVENTURE TIME STILLS IN MY MIND AT THIS DAY OMG I DIDN'T KNOW SARUH SCIENCE DID IT OMG... I LOVE SCOTT PILGRIM ANIME❤🎉
As an animation student, this is awesome look at the industry, thanks
Love this show. So much synergy from multiple media and cultures. Oh and more music from METRIC!!!!
❤ Love the comics, absolutely adore Edgar Wright's take on them .... and this series was just a dream come true. Absolutely brilliant expansion of the Scott Pilgrim universe. So glad this was made, and that it was made the way it was ❤
I wish for a Season 2 of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off! Such a great Anime.
One of the best shows I’ve seen this year. Beautifully animated, acted and written. Thank you.
I know they said they're done but Netflix PLEASE give us another season (either a faithful adaptation or even just Scott and Ramona as a couple trying to navigate their way through life)
You need to understand that it isn’t necessary to continue this. You sound like you’re fairly young and have got caught in the world of expecting ‘franchise’ treatments of everything. Look closely at this. It is a continuation, a revelation, an arc, and it sends the characters off into the sunset. Sometimes it’s fun to speculate rather than be spoonfed answers that set everything in stone. Be happy for the characters. Imagine your own endings for them. Too much of something will destroy the magic that we all love. It’s perfect as it is. Enjoy 😁
@@amancalledkevI mean, shit like marvel gets its franchise, then why cant a good story with true emotional meaning and great characters cant have its own?
@@vencelvadasz1744 Marvel is worse for the length of its franchise
Maybe if it became super popular then maybe it could continue. I understand they said it’s the end but who knows?
@@amancalledkev? Are you serious. Those that want the original adapted aren't out of touch. This is a spinoff. That's all well and good. But they got fans of the og hooked to watch it by implying it was an adaptation. The new "fans" like yourself got your disconnected story. Now they need to deliver what they originally advertised.
Thank you 4 everyone who worked on this. I'm tearing up after backing to this world 🌍
The animation was gorgeous.
Any hope of you guys doing animating atleast Scott fighting Ramona's exes as a bonus of sorts? I would definitely pay to see that.
