Eleven years later, Ms. Horne sang this with Dame Joan at Dame Joan's farewell. Twenty years later, Ms. Horne sang this at one of her farewells with Renee Fleming as Semiramide.
I saw Sutherland and Horne in Semiramide at the Chicago Lyric in the early 70's. One of the most memorable opera performances I have ever attended in almost 60 years of attending live opera. One though that their voice must be penetrating the walls of the house they filled the auditorium so completely.
I also feel their chemistry was such because they were such close friends. That helps tremendously where your singing together. You look for cues from each other and just know.
Hay gente que hace comentarios sin saber. Como puede afirmar alguno que la voz de la Sutherland era “chiquita “ ella comenzó cantando Wagner, por varios años…. Y los que la hemos escuchado hemos sentido su voz en todo el teatro.😳
There were reams of articles about that. It had been scheduled as part of a plan for Sutherland to sing Abduction from the Seraglio, Semiramide (w Horne), and The Merry Widow. While Sutherland was relearning Konstanze, she discovered that her voice was no longer comfortable in the role. So she canceled way in advance. Then the Met canceled her appearances in Semiramide and Widow. Unbelievable. Edda Moser sang Konstanza, June Anderson sang Semiramide, both brilliantly, and Widow didn’t appear until decades later.
@@jacktaggart2489Yes, and I attended the Saturday night performance that was being taped. I had already seen Salome (w Behrens) that same day at the matinee. James Conlon conducted both, an incredible achievement since the styles are so utterly different, and it’s a LONG day. The Semiramide performances were legendary, including Sam Ramey in the cast.
Do you happen to have the full concert Joan and Marilyn did together at Lincoln Center around this time? It’s so good. It used to be on TH-cam, but it was taken down for some reason. 😊
Hello there again… on another video (I can’t remember which one), you mentioned I could use your videos for my compilations, but I wanted to confirm that. There are so many I’d like to start, but I’m having a difficult time finding anything other than the ones you’ve posted. If so, would you want me to cover up your logo? What are your thoughts? Thanks
I was there. It was a STUPENDOUS performance!!

They make it look easy. Two modern golden-age artists.
2 unerreichbare Genies!!!

I was there as well. We sat way up high but their vouces filled the auditorium. I will never foeget it.
I was at the same performance.
I envy you I wish I could have heard her. I would do anything to have lived a generation before to see all this amazing artists
They don't get much better than this folks. Two of THE VERY BEST the operatic world will ever see.
One of the great vocal partnerships. Remarkable considering that the voices were very different instruments. A delightful clip. Many thanks.
La soprano y la Mezzo soprano del siglo!!!!

They so appreciated each other’s excellence and liked singing together. That’s worth tons!
Purely legendary….
Beautiful!
Not to beliebe! Simple: 2 Genies!!!
Sublime
That intermission feature was a delight!

There’s just no accounting for ignorance. Iol.

Why couldn’t the Met put on Semiramide when these two great artists were at their best?

@@wotan10950 I never liked Edda Moser
@@wotan10950Anderson should have been much more famous
June Anderson and Marilyn Horne in 'Semiramide' sang one of those 'greatest nights at the MET' in my memory. Unforgettable!

If there's an afterlife and I find out when i get there that these two are inexplicably somewhere else, I'm gonna be ANGRY! ; )
Well one of them is still alive today so…
😂
9:53 The audience almost seemed reluctant to stand while they clapped!?! LOL
..... And today we have cecilia bartolli
Und dies zu wiederholen kurz vor meinem Tod....

Questa è l'età d'oro del canto belliniano. Le scale discendenti sono perle che scendono dal cielo. ♥♥♥♥♥
