    CircleView : if you want to illuminate a larger area that offerred by the camera itself, you can use a stand alone infrared light 12-48V which is powered on automatically in dark. Works like charm 😁

    Great review! Why does nobody make a front porch Apple HomeKit traditional light with camera? I suppose this will work on my front porch but maybe too modern of a look for my 1960’s home. Kuna would be a great option but HomeKit not supported and the home bridge plugin isn’t quite there yet either.

    Me, I am having problems with the eve cam connection being very unreliable. From Eve Tech support, The Eve cam needs to be less than 20 feet from the router and cannot have any walls or other obstructions between the cam and router. Me, Uh, it's an outdoor cam, how is that going to be possible? Eve Tech support, try moving the router closer to the cam and make sure there are no walls obstructing it. Me, Wow, I just got ripped off of $250.

    The white wire in the junction box is most definitely a neutral wire. You have a switched hot.

    Great review! I agree with what you said. I ordered one the day it came out because I am trying to get off Ring. I converted it to a plug in. Took 2 trips to Home Depot and an online order for the parts but I like the way it came out and I don’t lose any existing outside lights. I agree that losing an outside light to a security camera was not acceptable.

      @@beatsbyjules. If you’re talking about contact sensors for doors and windows, I use the VOCOlinc ones. They are super cheap and turns out they work really good, even though they are bluetooth. Pretty quick response and decent battery life. Also, easy to add to HomeKit. Got a few Eve contact sensors that use thread for some stuff that I thought was a bit distant for Bluetooth. The Eve ones are really big and a little difficult to attach. Thread works great! Thread works so, so much better than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

    I’ve heard this doesn’t play nicely with a standard junction box. Also, I have a huge issues that there is no lumens rating for this, seems like a huge miss for marketing a flood light. I wish the Eufy Floodlight Cam 2 Pro did HomeKit.

    • @ScotTheGr8
      @ScotTheGr8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree they should list the brightness. Decently bright. Not going to light up a yard but lights up my patio nicely. Connecting the light will require a little ingenuity. Will have to adapt it to pretty much any mounting situation save for wires sticking out of the wall. Been pretty happy with it. It does have occasional lock-ups. I can overlook the minor faults to get rid of the Ring cameras. The Ring cameras (at least the plug-in ones) are pretty polished now but I am just not happy with the privacy implications. Also, the round trip thru a server really, really slows down the Ring cameras. The Eve is pretty much instantaneous.

    Problem with the Eve Cam: You can’t blacken any areas in the picture and make us unrecognizable. Means that I film the neighboring property 24/7, which is not allowed.... I absolutely don’t understand why no one complains about it in any video and why I’m apparently the only one who bothers 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Is Eve Outdoor Cam able to send notifications promptly or does it have the same problem as Netatmo Smart Outdoor Cam where there a lag or time delay between the object appearing in its field of view and the notification sent to the respective iPhones or Apple Watch? For Netatmo it’s a delay about 30s

    Eric
    I just wanted to let you know that there is a wifi camera system that does come in a more traditional porch light camera with two-way communication, motion sensor to activate both the lightbulb (at nighttime) and the video recording, it has a 110db alarm, plus both pre-recorded and custom greeting options. This company also has a floodlight camera with the same options but the light is on both sides of the camera, dimmable, and separately adjustable. The only problem is their lack of integration. They do integrate with both the Amazon & Google assistants. But only have the ability to turn the light(s) on/off. There’s no integration with SmartThings nor HomeKit. But otherwise, the porch lights and the dual camera doorbell work great. The company is Kuna. I have a video on my IGTV that goes over it.

    Great job Apple, giving exclusivity rights to 1 company and giving would-be HomeKit adopters 1 option for outdoor home security. What an awful choice. Based on the video quality from this video, I’m gonna skip Apple’s Smart Home solutions, not only are they overpriced, but freaking suck.
    I’m currently with Google’s Nest cameras, but even those 5 year old outdoor cameras and my vacation home’s sketchy and slow internet capture superior video quality than the crap Apple is giving us.
    I will look for Amazon cams and other options but definitely crossing out Apple and that sucks because I love the Apple ecosystem-system, but their smart home solutions are a huge letdown.

      They are literally giving exclusive compatibility access to these crappy companies. You’d expect Apple to have some quality control in the hardware they’re selling and promoting. Don’t hold your breath for better video quality, when there’s a monopoly, and no competition for Apple clients, the monopoly has no reason to do better.
