What were those things that had their own names, like KwaZulu? Were they the South African version of the American Indian Reservations? That’s what it seems like considering they disappeared after Mandela became president.

It was called homelands or semi independant states that has white governors and it was where black people were forced to live... they were not allowed to live outside those homelands during the apartheid

Those were Bantusans, basically independent countries that were only recognized by the South African government. They were meant to serve as a homeland for the native tribes that live there
