you should see the hack job that was done to my 401 by 2 shops,grinding my air gap intake,didnt use a valley pan the first time it shelled out,they didnt check distributor gear meshing and lasted 5 min,i paid to have it pre- ran and wanted to be there,after it crapped out i pulled the motor back out,stabbed a hole in my brand new radiator and they said theyd rebuild it again,i got it back in and it ran like crap like they installed timing chain wrong,they towed my truck to another hot rod shop and they adjusted the vales and carb.i picked it up and got about 6 blocks away and it died in a busy intersection,i was on crutches at the time so it was very difficult to get a look ,but found they had left the accelrator clip off,forward 500 miles of a poorly tuned truck and no.2 exhaust cam lobe went flat,id had it by tghen and demanded they fix it a very heated call and i told them they wont be touching my motor again and thay better send me new cam and gaskets and oil,that was oct 2014,its been sitting 5 yrs and i finally have decided to put it back together,but glad i found your channel as i have forgot some of amc motors qwerks,thanks again for the great vids
Thanks for the video! I'm about to install a Edelbrock R4B in my 290. It's nice to know what I'm up against. It's a used manifold, but looks pretty good. No gouges that I can detect.
And the valley pan style gasket helps keep the bottom of the manifold cooler which helps make more hire horsepower. It won't do any good if you don't block off the exhaust crossovers though! And doing that may not be helpful on a street driven car in cold weather. It's no problem in AZ!

Does it not have any other gaskets other than the v,pan? I didn't see how u installed if any.

Your engine does`t use a valley pan....and your pct is in the valve cover not the intake manifold...
Ultra Black sealant.?...I like the grey but they all work great.
Is there anything wrong with using individual gaskets on a stock manifold if I block off the pcv system
