      Rob - I think there's a misunderstanding about discovery coins. You need to send them to Wexler or CONECA. They'll tell you if it's a new variety. Unless that variety goes into the Cherrypickers guide, PCGS and NGC won't put it on the slab. Anacs will accept the letter from Wexler or Coneca and will put 'discovery coin' on the slab, but NGC and PCGS won't even look at it before charging you.

    Rob, that CC morgan is unbelievable! I remember that one. It could just be your camera, but I personally think the indian cent potentially looks a bit off too. Hard to say without seeing it in hand. Reselling indian head cents was my bread and butter 10 years ago, and the ones I've handled normally have a deeper orange/red color. But like I said, it's hard to tell on video. I could be completely wrong! It would be interesting to see what NGC does with it.

    • @RobFindsTreasure
      @RobFindsTreasure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Yeah - it's really brilliant for sure. I know why they put it down as questionable but I never understood why coins can be guilty until proven innocent. If an EXPERT cannot determine that it has without a doubt been treated, altered, cleaned or polished, then in my opinion, it should receive a grade - or at the very least - a written explanation for why you could not determine it either way. I guess the reasoning being - "it's too nice" isn't something they can put on paper! LOL

      @@curt2742 The problem with PCGS is that think they are the only grading company out there that matters. In 1985 a group of "so called coin experts" started Professional Coin Grading Service or best known in the coin world PCGS. THUS this started coin click...they have graded over 40m slabs, so they are fat heads. They are on NASDAQ, it's all about money 💰 and trying control the market. That's the truth and it happens at every show i attend. If I'm seeking a coin NGC slabbed I'm always told, I'd offer more if it was PCGS headed. Both companies have some inconsistencies. Both think they are better than the other. But it's NGC that won't cross an ANACS or ICG graded coin. So when you talk about fatheads....

They use XF, when it should be EF - there is NO such grade as XF, I own a 'Little Red Book of U.S coins by R.S.Yeoman', and they use grade EF! This grade is Extremely Fine - there is NO such grade called Extra Fine! I'm British, and I see 'Mint State this, Mint State that' - what a load of rubbish. If a coin is Mint, then its correct grade is UNCIRCULATED. If a coin is Mint with Full Lustre, its correct grade is BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED, it's as simple as that. A coin is either Mint, or it isn't. Rob,
    That extra bit on the H in Homestead is what machine doubling actually looks like on incuse lettering. The rest of that is original design, lighting, or die deterioration. Wexler and Wiles both have examples of machine doubling that looks like what you were concerned about, and they labeled it machine doubling. Valuable hub doubling on incuse letters decreases their size, and none are known for quarters. You have to look at the incuse lettering of certain 2013 and 2015 cent DDRs to see what it is supposed to look like. Also, PCGS won't label any variety, period, unless it's in the CPG. ANACS won't even label a variety unless Wexler verifies it.

    Sorry to see the IHP come back ungradable...it’s a beauty. The good news is that you got nice returns on the nickel and CC 🙌...the first thing I thought was that you should try NGC on the IHP, so I was there before you even asked :)...if I were you, I’d def seriously consider doing so. Thanks for sharing, Rob and take care ✌🏼

    DUDE!!!!!! I was literally yelling at the screen on that IHP. I probably created some new curse words as well as shouting some old favorites!!! I would definitely NGC it. Everyone has coins where the alloy mix is not exactly a common red or brown. I have pennies from the 20s and 30s that are almost yellow. I feel that you are a victim of a pretty big injustice on that coin. That is probably one of the nicest IHPs I have ever seen. Thanks for the video Rob. Just glad you came up a bit with that Morgan.

    I want to see the cracked out Indian Head and submitted to NGC video, next! No way I’d take one opinion on that good of coin, plus a video on how to crack it out and resubmit to another grading service would be a good service video as well. Reinvigorate the excitement in that very special coin!

    The underlying ghost carbon spots are indicative of striping. Probably in the distant past to facilitate retoning. It didn't work. The carbon spots though faded can still be seen. Bummer. I love your show.

      It's a nice coin, but it's not a 69-70. It's basically impossible to get that grade in a coin that isn't modern.

    On that 1901, I see a MS Grade coin not a “questionable colored” Coin. You cal those experts at PCGS, well that wasn’t very expertise of them to do so that coin and give it a wrong grade!

    The H on Homestead is incuse machine doubling, not a DDR. I left a long comment explaining how it works in your original video with that coin, though probably not reasonable to expect you to see all the comments :P
    For the non-CPG listed varieties, you should submit those to ANACS. PCGS won't attribute anything that they don't list on their website.

    • @mjanovec
      @mjanovec 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, total waste of time and money sending coins to PCGS expecting attributions for varieties and errors they don't recognize. Even if the individual reviewer agrees with the attribution, they likely cannot apply it to the coin.
