We've done DIY cattle panel feeders and the $300 welded bale feeder. In the long run, it's probably a wash. The purchased bale feeder lasts a decade or more before repair and the real advantage is it can feed more cattle at once than a 16 ft cattle panel feeder. Cattle panel feeders are better suited for goats and llamas... more so than cattle.
I would agree for a larger herd, even though the round bale feeders that we have get banged up, in need of repair and smaller cows get inside the rings. For us, we have smaller herds and the cattle panel ring is a great thing for our small operation. I put out this video for others who are in the same boat as us. Thank you for the comment!
