    Sorry folks, I realize around 6:11 I said that the sidechain doesn’t compress the low end. I don’t know why I said that because it’s incorrect (the pressure of filming in the moment must have gotten to me 🥲)
    The correct thing to say is by using the sidechain filter, the low end elements won’t TRIGGER the compression. The low end still would be compressed obviously, but those frequencies won’t be responsible for triggering the compression - which is good as some low end sounds like kick and bass can be louder in a mix, and therefore trigger the compression in a drastic way if you’re not careful. Using the sidechain ultimately helps mitigate this, and prevents the big low end sounds from triggering compression. My apologies again but hopefully this clears up any confusion I may have caused previously with my statements 🙏🏼

    To be honest I don’t understand how you are getting low views. To be honest you are actually the #1 educator 👨‍🏫 with your tutorials in my opinions

      Aw thank you so much! I’m humbled to hear that 🙏🏼
      Honestly, I still have a relatively small following compared to others in the space, so it’s unlikely a video that just premiered will have a crazy amount of views after only a few hours of posting. These aren’t viral topics but over the long term, videos like this will grow and achieve the numbers you’d probably expect to see. I have videos from 2018 that are literally catching fire now, good things just take time 😅
      I ain’t here for the clout though, just doing my part and appreciate kind people like you for the words and sharing with others. Big salute!! 👊🏼

    Hey man you see with the Cytomic Plugin, it's got the HP feature right. Can the UAD Fairchild offer the same "glue"? as it's got a HP feature too?

    Quick question I notice that mix engineers sometimes or most often rout the lead vocal to a stereo aux track why do they do this what would be some of the reasons for this could you please explain

    • @5piece
      @5piece  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've answered this several times on previous videos, so I'll copy and paste one of those answers here:
      The main reason for this is to preserve panning. Because I'm panning things hard left and hard right, as well as degrees in between, a mono bus wouldn't accurately display the sound. For this reason we need a STEREO channel (or aux).
      Furthermore - most FX like delays, reverbs, etc are stereo effects. If we are sending them to the same place as the mono vocals, it also needs to be stereo. In general, master and summing busses (places where multiple audio tracks combine) should be stereo. There are likely exceptions, but more often than not this is the case. Hopefully this makes sense and helps!

    Completely wrong. At the 6-minute mark you talk about the high pass filter preventing Lows from being compressed. That is not what the high pass filter does. It determines which signals control the compression of the entire signal. So if you had a bunch of highs they would be triggering the compressor and it would compress everything by that amount including the lows. It's simply to allow bass to not trigger the compressor so much and caused the bass to be reduced too much before the other frequencies are reduced. Also forget the mix control. The range control does it all.

      You are correct, I minced my words here and didn’t explain it correctly.
      All I can do, 2 years later after posting the video, is return to agree with your comment BUT I’ll also add a pinned comment to clarify. Thank you for pointing it out.
      I understand (and have always understood) what the sidechain filter does on a compressor, but I can’t tell ya why I explained it this way.
      When the camera is on and you’re going for a long time recording - every once in awhile you say something incorrectly and ultimately don’t always explain it as well as you’d like. You’d understand if you made videos like this but that’s besides the point.
      It’s comparable to when you get into an argument with someone, then you get home and think about the 100 BETTER things you could’ve said as a rebuttal afterwards LOL. Definitely have been more mindful of such things as you’ll see in my recent videos - so I hope you don’t judge too harshly based on what past 5PiECE has done/said. That guy is very different from today’s 5PiECE - older, wiser and more bearded. 😂
      All the best

    why do use fast release when it comes to compresson

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So that it sounds more transparent. Longer release times can lead to a sound being compressed even when the compressor should’ve stopped working. I’ve got a new video about using compression dropping tomorrow that will help explain this further but hope this helps in the meantime 🤙🏼

    Mix bus and master bus what is different:(

    • @5piece
      @5piece  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mix Bus -> the last bus where all tracks go BEFORE mastering (so 1 before Mastering)
      Master Bus -> the final bus where the mix bus goes (and therefore all tracks go as well)
      They are very similar, but the difference is the sequence.
      All Tracks -> Mix Bus -> Mastering
      Some people don't separate the mix bus and master, and therefore don't process their mix bus at all.
      However, most people who work with an separate mastering engineer generally do some mix bus processing before turning it over for final mastering.
      Since I do both, I process both. The choice is ultimately up to you, this video is just my approach!
