So before Mermaid Pants, the only time Squidward had toenails was in House Fancy, and Nickelodeon put them in just to rip one off with the worst sofa I've seen. The worst was the one episode where Squidward gets solidified in cement and spongebob mistakes him for a creature and keeps him as a pet while squidward is crying in agony. Always made me feel so bad for squidward,
The reason it was funny in the old episodes is because squidward would actually attempt to harm Spongebob and Patrick, and it was funny to see it backfire and he get hurt instead but now, he is just getting hurt for no good reason

Nah, there are lots of episodes about him being a giant asshole. Like that one where he wanted to drive spongebob to exhaustion so he could steal his dancing position or the one where he made an entire talent show just to show he was better than everyone. There is not one person on the show that didn't do something slightly malicious, and it shows fault. Squidward has had moments of caring, like the Pizza episode, one the guy they delivered the pizza to yelled at Spongebob, Squidward defended Spongebob. There are instances he is a good person, he's just grumpy because his neighbors are annoying and always push him to his limits.

Living long enough to remember the start of Spongebob in my early teens, the evolution of Squidward has been a tragic one. Squidward was the douchy neighbor that called the cops on you for having music a little too loud after 8pm on a Friday and always gave you the stink eye when you crossed paths with him. Now he's an introverted person having to live between two loud annoying assholes that somehow get everything going for them and are untouchable, and can crash into his pad and drink and eat his food whenever they feel like it. Damn.
I mean loud music IS annoying when you're trying to get some sleep, although I'd call the cops if they refused to turn it down after I asked and if it's actually something to call the cops over.
Squidward still had a heart in the earlier episodes. He wasn't a complete jerk. Like when he defended SpongeBob against the pizza customer or apologized for pulling a prank on him.

Das Kampffredchen Well at least the episode ended by Squidward lifiting Sponge's part of the restraining order, and SpongeBob did try to save Squidward when he burned his arm on the grill. And as Mr Enter said, SpongeBob seemed genuinely worried that the legalities involved got him in an awful pickle, no pun intended.
Also I believe the show did the whole "Squidward misses his friends despite how annoying they are" plot much better in "Squidsville", as in that episode Squidward moves in to a neighborhood located around Bikini Bottom filled with multiple cephalopods that look like him.
well, since the second movie its gotten way better. except in nearly each one since, theres like one gag of squidward getting hurt and most of the time it looks incredibly painful but it goes by fast. that seems to be stephen hillenburgs new shtick

Literally the reason I stopped watching this show. Spongebob and Patprick are so numb in their skulls they never notice how much they are ruining Squidward's life. It became uncomfortable to watch when it became a running gag.

If that was more a recurring theme...they realize when they go too far...they'd probably be okay. Or like, Squidward gets pushed down, but then he figures out a way to come out on top in the end, or an incident forces Squidward to work with the others, and it ends with him winning.

From what I can tell with the 2 minutes of research I did the line, "Curse you profluenster" is a reference to the weatherman at the beginning of the episode. Sooooo, yeah, they reference a guy who's name is never told BY NAME, and expect you to understand who it is a few episodes before the episode ends and never talk about him again.
They refer to him at the beginning of the episode when spongebob and patrick go to tell squidward about the storm "What storm?" "The one Bill Proflunster told us about."

For me the toenail scene is worse than the splinter because of how brutal it is. With the splinter, the worst part imo is when it gets plunged in, but the way the couch just grinds on Squidward's foot over and over with crunching sound effects is just... ugh.
They literally could've just ended the episode with Spongebob and Patrick slipping out the back door unnoticed. That episode would've been great if it weren't for that ending!
Number 9. Let me break it down. So the writers thought it would be funny to put in dark humor.. That is NOT DARK HUMOR. THAT IS LEGITIMATE TORTURE. The worst part is, is that they show close up how Squidward's toenail was being ripped off by furniture. Nice job, Nickelodeon.

Also if he got sent to the hospital and was screaming in excruciating pain as Squidward and Mrs. Puff come to visit him there, laugh at him maniacally and Squidward telling him "That's karma for ya!" And the episode ended with SpongeBob feeling extremely guilty and crying.
Well, that would be good....except that the episode would still break the rules of the show. It is shown multiple times that spongebob is a good driver, but he just always fails because he is either getting too nervious or he is too carefree. Here, he just drives perfectly even tho he does everything that should prevent it. If that is the case, he might as well get his dang license already.
The worst Squidward torture porn in my opinion is the incredibly unknown episode Giant Squidward because it has Patrick steal from Squidward turn him into a giant with growth spray that they stole from him and when he chases after them into the city the people tie him down and treat him like Satan himself for YELLING and he is forced to do whatever the townspeople want and when he doesn't say bless you they chase him out of town and destroy his house Spongebob and Patrick decide to make him a giant clarinet to cheer him up which for some reason shrinks him back to normal and in the end Squidward's house is still destroyed and Spongebob and Patrick just run away from him.
That toe nail ripping out scene gave me a phobia of breaking or ripping out my nails. Since this episode aired I've avoided using my nails for anything like scratching off or pulling something with my nails, I'm not kidding. Never has a cartoon or anything affected me so much than this scene.
What about Squid Wood. Basically everyone in Bikini Bottom gets annoyed when Squidward does something, but when his puppet made by Spongebob does it they love and reward it. Fucking hypocrisy and torture porn at it's finest.

Exactly!!!! Mr Enter needs to review that episode. Squid Wood is one of the first Squidward torture porn episodes that I had saw as a kid that made a terrible first impression on me. Heck. I'm always skeptical about spongebob episodes now days that star Squidward as the main protagonists for that reason alone because of the typical "THE WORLD IS AGAINST SQUIDWARD" cliche that these new writers feel the need to shoe horn as if it's going to make kids clap their hands. But to me, that's nothing more than lazy-eye-candy writing.

I'm tired of all these "its for kids" arguments. That makes it worse. These post-movie episodes are artistically terrible. The plots suck, the careless use of grotesque imagery is going for nothing but shock factor and not the actual goal of grotesque and confusing it with slap-stick, the characters have glaring personality flaws and even worse the characters accept that from each other (sorry, if my friend had my most valuable card and was careless with it, I would never talk to him again), the comedy relies on boarderline (and sometimes full-blown) character abuse both physically and emotionally, and the lack of any real intelligence from anybody is staggering. I'm not one to make the "kids are impressionable" argument, but kids really are. At BEST they will pick up terrible comedy from post-movie spongebob, and at worst they will gain an abusive sense of comedy, one that relies solely on the pain and suffering of others, not witty remarks or funny situations. The "slap-stick" (if you can call it that) is so graphic and grotesque that it doesn't look like slap-stick: it looks like torture porn. Slap-stick relies on its characters having a cartoony reaction to establish the fact that A) its not real and B) the characters are not maimed. And this post-movie has slap-stick backwards: its not the imagery that's funny, it's people's reactions. For example, lets look at the episode where spongebob tries to get into the toughest club. In pre-movie spongebob, they would (and did) focused on his reaction: they showed him in the hospital, and what made it all the more funny was his reaction to just slipping on an ice cube. They didn't even need to show it happening; if you can make slap-stick funny without even showing the slap-stick, that's genius. However, post-movie spongebob would show him going in, slipping and show every single detail of him falling to the ground, probably with unnecessary grotesque imagry like bones sticking out or wood stabbing him. What happens afterwards would be pointless to post-movie spongebob; it would just be a way of resolving the episode in a few seconds. Whats happening is they are replacing funny reactions with grotesque imagery, confusing the shocked reaction it gets from its audience as positive praise. Look at very early Tom and Jerry, where Tom made realistic cat noises. It's terrible, because its too realistic and grotesque to be taken as comedy. Once it gave Tom a human voice, something that could never happen, the slap-stick was much funnier. Also, this is his fucking channel and his opinion. You have every right not to agree, but you have no right to tell him not to express it, ESPECIALLY on his own youtube channel. Don't like the raging? Fine, that's a delivery problem for you, but his opinion is just as valid as yours.

Mitty Nickle In the world of show business, if you can make enough money for the network, you can bend rules to the point of near breaking. Spongebob is a massive source of revanue for nickelodeon and it's parent company. Episodes could literally be just the characters sitting around doing nothing and nickelodeon would still put it on the air. At this point, they don't care about the quality of spongebob as long as he still makes them money.
Old episodes had Squidward be mean-spirited at times and makes mistakes just to showcase that at times his ego and arrogance isn't always right, or isn't the solution to the problems contained to each episode. Spongebob was well-meaninged, sincere and friendly, but he wasn't a complete idiot. He showed that he was definitely smarter than he was letting on. And Squidward had occasions where he could empathize with Spongebob as a friend. New Episodes: You exaggerated all the bad traits of each characters. Especially Spongebob and Squidward. The only thing keeping Spongebob from being like Michael Myers is the fact that he does not possess a knife. As for Squidward, he's regularly victimised. Animators, I acknowledge the limited budget you work with for each episode to meet the increasingly absurd quota of the Network's demand list. Writers, I can understand that you're just doing this solely so you can put your kids in college. *But does the cost of that really have to be your integrity?*

I don't blame you for number 1. After those episodes with Squidward getting the shit he didn't deserve, Spongebob deserves to get annoyed by Squidward the way he annoyed the Squid. I love the show, don't get me wrong, but EVEN I have my limits.

I miss Spongebob. This isn’t Spongebob. Watching what it is today is like watching someone deteriorate due to Alzheimer’s (which I’m dealing with currently). Some would argue that it’s bitter-sweet because it’s made Spongebob more of an icon, due to Nick’s over saturation of him, but why does that make this ok. For me Spongebob is more than a show, it was a big part of me growing up, and it shaped a lot of my personality. It wasn’t like Avatar, Zim, or Samurai Jack, but it didn’t have to be. It was a comedy. And it was really funny, quotable, likable, memorable, sometimes heart-warming, and in a strange way beautiful. You may think it’s nostalgia but I’ve analyzed the show to death. In bad episodes before the movie, you would think of something like “The Great Snail Race” because of the mean-spirit and Spongebob being out of character, but that episode was really damn funny. Patrick distracted me from its problems because he was that enjoyable, while not great as a whole, it wasn’t unwatchable. The best parts of the original run (before the movie) was its characters, simple stories, and excellently timed comedy. The new seasons sh*t on all of these. The simple stories worked because there was a lot of material to get from it giving us episodes like Jellyfishing, Wet Painters, The Camping Episode, and Squid on Strike. Now we get Waiting, Gone, and SPONGEBOB YOURE FIRED. What about the comedy? The best way I can describe that is new incompetent writers/seasonal rot. And as for the characters... while not extremely complex, they were all layered and served a purpose. Here’s what I mean: Spongebob: a good natured person with a love for jellyfishing, bubbles, and life in general; he isn’t the brightest person out there but he has moments of maturity even though he’s naive, he cared for all of his friends, including Squidward but he had his limits like in “Can You Spare A Dime?” While sometimes annoying, never malicious or annoying to the audience. A wonderfully rounded character. Now we have “Choir Boys” I hope the writers know that they kill fond memories of this once great show.
Party Saint What annoyed me about "The Great Snail Race" was the punchline involving Sandy kicking SpongeBob's butt at the end and yelling "THAT'S FOR YESTERDAY SQUAREPANTS!!!", which was part of a joke that was alluded to once previously in the episode, when she overheard SpongeBob calling Gary a girl (to demean Gary). Yes Sponge may have deserved it, but couldn't the butt kicking come from Squidward? Sandy being in that episode seemed as though she may have been shoehorned into the episode for the sake of a joke; if this were, say Patrick's cameo in "Graveyard Shift" ("...Oh boy, 3AM!") I'd take that.
Its so funny seeing Mr. Enter complaining about Boat Smarts when many years later, the episode and the random squid grinder became a meme that a lot of people find hilarious.
In a way that's what makes it frustrating. The fact that episode makes Squidward the bad guy by giving SpongeBob his karma. It amounts to the episode acting as though Squidward no matter what is the bad guy who deserves torment just because he's Squidward, while it's okay for SpongeBob to torment him for no other reason than he's SpongeBob which makes it okay. It's that backwards logic that just makes it an annoyingly frustrating episode to sit through.
Kenny couldn't breathe underwater, though. He was holding his breath and lugging around an oxygen tank. And at the end, he was given a diving suit, just like Sandy's.

A very recent episode "Ink Lemonade" is a very bad atrocity as it may be the worst Squidward torture episode and it came out in 2018 in Season 11 and I can't believe they would ever treat Squidward in that episode like how Plankton got treated in "One Coarse Meal", where Patrick and SpongeBob scare Squidward so much that they use his ink to sell black lemonade. I'm dead SERIOUS. Hopefully TheMysteriousMrEnter can review it in the near future.
Yeah I would totally agree with you. This episode feels like a Top 5 for me maybe Top 3 since I put this above "The Splinter", "To Love a Patty", "Squid Baby", "A Pal for Gary" and "One Coarse Meal", but I hate "Pet Sitter Pat" more and nothing can top "SpongeBob You're Fired".
That sounds...disturbing and gross. I have not seen Spongebob since maybe Season 5 or so, so yeah I'm way behind in what all has been happening to the show lately apart from reviews like this one. But the episode you just described sounds all kinds of awful. Forcibly using Squidward's ink to make lemonade would be like collecting somebody else's sweat and turning it into some kind of messed up seasoning. You would think Spongebob would be against that type of thing since that one episode where he catches Mr. Krabs abusing all of the jellyfish for his own personal gain. Guess new Spongebob just doesn't care anymore and has no morals.
Prediction for Season 39: Squidward kills himself, and of course the viewers get to see it because the writers are demonic, Patrick becomes a murderer, and Spongebob becomes a stalker.
I guess after seeing how SpongeBob was after they left, they took the Season 4-present writer crew and shot them in a ditch where they replaced them saying that they quit.

I remember when I first watched these episodes. Deep down I felt extremely frustrated watching them, and I felt severely empathetic for Squidward. I legitimately could not watch these episodes without feeling ashamed, upset or wrong. But because I was 9 and didn't know any better, I thought I was alone in my sympathy towards Squidward. Turns out I was wrong. ;)
i actually used to hate squidward. He thinks he makes masterpieces. He does, masterpieces of mediocrity. And the way he rubs into the other characters faces... other than that he's a pretty solid character.

I love how literally the only reason they give for Spongebob and Patrick following Squidward in Cephalopod Lodge is that he's happy. It's like they're saying "What?! Squidward is happy?!!! This can never be allowed!!! Go! Find whatever it is that is making him happy and do not return until it is completely and utterly ruined!!!'
Mostly because he is very hard to please. His interests are incredibly erudite and sophisticated, which are difficult to express in this brand of show-not in the early seasons when it was a family show. Probably the best way to show Squidward being successful would be an episode where Squidward takes advantage of his strengths, as opposed to attempting to shoehorn himself into something he is not skilled. Last episode I can think of that did that proper is Suction Cup Symphony. He may not be good at playing his clarinet, but he is a master composer and conductor.

I can't believe I'm saying this but remember the scene from Stuck In The Wringer in where the Town's Folk Criticizes Spongebob for snapping at Patrick rightfully so, Take that scene and place it after Spongebob snapping at Squidward in A Breath Of Fresh Squidward, wouldn't it make more sence there? A lot of people think that these ones are bad, but what about the post movie SpongeBob torture porns? The list of them: 1. The Splinter-SpongeBob literally did nothing wrong to deserve the torture that he got from Squidward or Patrick in this episode. 2. Stuck in the Wringer-Patrick was the one that did it. Squidward also made a nasty remark towards Spongebob here. 3. SpongeBob, You're Fired!-I don't hate this episode, but it is a SpongeBob torture porn nonetheless. 4. Little Yellow Book-If this took place the day after Boating Buddies, Choir Boys or Good Neighbors, then I'd understand Squidward wanting to hurt SpongeBob in the way that he did here. This was never implied though, so I'll assume that it didn't. 5. Yours, Mines and Mine-It's an okay episode though since SpongeBob at least sticks it to Patrick here. 6. Gone 7. All that Glitters 8. The Card 9. Big Sister Sam-He was actually intelligent in this episode and called Patrick out on his antics, but still got treated as if he was in the wrong for whatever reason. 10. Oral Report 11. Spongehenge 12. The episode where SpongeBob was in a bubble. Everybody was just an asshole to him in that episode for literally nothing. There are others as well.
I wouldn't consider Little Yellow Book a "torture porn" (tbh this name sounds stupid) because it focuses more on Squidward being a dick than it does on SpongeBob being miserable. Even then, being miserable isn't a "torture porn", it's simply his feelings being hurt. That being said, the episode still sucks.
The Bikini Bottom townspeople are as bad as if not worse than Squidward in that episode seeing as they read Spongebob's diary with him then when Spongebob finds out they act like they didn't know it was his diary and blame everything on Squidward to cover their asses.

I actually really liked Good Neighbors. There was a short moment implied in "Secret Box" where Squidward's house was sentient. I thought Squidward's execution of that line was so spot on witty. He's just desensitized to the idiocracy around him 24/7, he's just "okay" with his house being sentient. XD

There is not one person on the show that didn't do something slightly malicious, and it shows fault. Squidward has had moments of caring, like the Pizza episode, one the guy they delivered the pizza to yelled at Spongebob, Squidward defended Spongebob. There are instances he is a good person, he's just grumpy because his neighbors are annoying and always push him to his limits.

Living long enough to remember the start of Spongebob in my early teens, the evolution of Squidward has been a tragic one. Squidward was the douchy neighbor that called the cops on you for having music a little too loud after 8pm on a Friday and always gave you the stink eye when you crossed paths with him.
Now he's an introverted person having to live between two loud annoying assholes that somehow get everything going for them and are untouchable, and can crash into his pad and drink and eat his food whenever they feel like it.

Also I believe the show did the whole "Squidward misses his friends despite how annoying they are" plot much better in "Squidsville", as in that episode Squidward moves in to a neighborhood located around Bikini Bottom filled with multiple cephalopods that look like him.

If that was more a recurring theme...they realize when they go too far...they'd probably be okay.

From what I can tell with the 2 minutes of research I did the line, "Curse you profluenster" is a reference to the weatherman at the beginning of the episode. Sooooo, yeah, they reference a guy who's name is never told BY NAME, and expect you to understand who it is a few episodes before the episode ends and never talk about him again.
They refer to him at the beginning of the episode when spongebob and patrick go to tell squidward about the storm

For me the toenail scene is worse than the splinter because of how brutal it is. With the splinter, the worst part imo is when it gets plunged in, but the way the couch just grinds on Squidward's foot over and over with crunching sound effects is just... ugh.

Well, that would be good....except that the episode would still break the rules of the show. It is shown multiple times that spongebob is a good driver, but he just always fails because he is either getting too nervious or he is too carefree. Here, he just drives perfectly even tho he does everything that should prevent it. If that is the case, he might as well get his dang license already.

The worst Squidward torture porn in my opinion is the incredibly unknown episode Giant Squidward because it has Patrick steal from Squidward turn him into a giant with growth spray that they stole from him and when he chases after them into the city the people tie him down and treat him like Satan himself for YELLING and he is forced to do whatever the townspeople want and when he doesn't say bless you they chase him out of town and destroy his house Spongebob and Patrick decide to make him a giant clarinet to cheer him up which for some reason shrinks him back to normal and in the end Squidward's house is still destroyed and Spongebob and Patrick just run away from him.

If he got the giant clarinet and still managed to play it beautifly, the episode would've been saved.

I'm tired of all these "its for kids" arguments.
That makes it worse. These post-movie episodes are artistically terrible. The plots suck, the careless use of grotesque imagery is going for nothing but shock factor and not the actual goal of grotesque and confusing it with slap-stick, the characters have glaring personality flaws and even worse the characters accept that from each other (sorry, if my friend had my most valuable card and was careless with it, I would never talk to him again), the comedy relies on boarderline (and sometimes full-blown) character abuse both physically and emotionally, and the lack of any real intelligence from anybody is staggering.
I'm not one to make the "kids are impressionable" argument, but kids really are. At BEST they will pick up terrible comedy from post-movie spongebob, and at worst they will gain an abusive sense of comedy, one that relies solely on the pain and suffering of others, not witty remarks or funny situations. The "slap-stick" (if you can call it that) is so graphic and grotesque that it doesn't look like slap-stick: it looks like torture porn. Slap-stick relies on its characters having a cartoony reaction to establish the fact that A) its not real and B) the characters are not maimed. And this post-movie has slap-stick backwards: its not the imagery that's funny, it's people's reactions. For example, lets look at the episode where spongebob tries to get into the toughest club. In pre-movie spongebob, they would (and did) focused on his reaction: they showed him in the hospital, and what made it all the more funny was his reaction to just slipping on an ice cube. They didn't even need to show it happening; if you can make slap-stick funny without even showing the slap-stick, that's genius. However, post-movie spongebob would show him going in, slipping and show every single detail of him falling to the ground, probably with unnecessary grotesque imagry like bones sticking out or wood stabbing him. What happens afterwards would be pointless to post-movie spongebob; it would just be a way of resolving the episode in a few seconds. Whats happening is they are replacing funny reactions with grotesque imagery, confusing the shocked reaction it gets from its audience as positive praise. Look at very early Tom and Jerry, where Tom made realistic cat noises. It's terrible, because its too realistic and grotesque to be taken as comedy. Once it gave Tom a human voice, something that could never happen, the slap-stick was much funnier.
Also, this is his fucking channel and his opinion. You have every right not to agree, but you have no right to tell him not to express it, ESPECIALLY on his own youtube channel. Don't like the raging? Fine, that's a delivery problem for you, but his opinion is just as valid as yours.
Season 4 was a mixed bag, and was overall decent.
I really enjoyed reading what you had to say and kudos to you calling out those who get all butt-hurt for someone having an opinion different from theirs. And I am with you over the "its for kids" argument.
If only Nickelodeon had that sense before they canceled Invader Zim. Compare Zim's "graphic" footage to this. It's nothing. Nickelodeon is just too stupid to realise that and the consequences to Zim were far fetched.
Mitty Nickle In the world of show business, if you can make enough money for the network, you can bend rules to the point of near breaking. Spongebob is a massive source of revanue for nickelodeon and it's parent company. Episodes could literally be just the characters sitting around doing nothing and nickelodeon would still put it on the air. At this point, they don't care about the quality of spongebob as long as he still makes them money.

Old episodes had Squidward be mean-spirited at times and makes mistakes just to showcase that at times his ego and arrogance isn't always right, or isn't the solution to the problems contained to each episode. Spongebob was well-meaninged, sincere and friendly, but he wasn't a complete idiot. He showed that he was definitely smarter than he was letting on. And Squidward had occasions where he could empathize with Spongebob as a friend.
New Episodes: You exaggerated all the bad traits of each characters. Especially Spongebob and Squidward. The only thing keeping Spongebob from being like Michael Myers is the fact that he does not possess a knife. As for Squidward, he's regularly victimised.
Animators, I acknowledge the limited budget you work with for each episode to meet the increasingly absurd quota of the Network's demand list.

I miss Spongebob. This isn’t Spongebob. Watching what it is today is like watching someone deteriorate due to Alzheimer’s (which I’m dealing with currently). Some would argue that it’s bitter-sweet because it’s made Spongebob more of an icon, due to Nick’s over saturation of him, but why does that make this ok. For me Spongebob is more than a show, it was a big part of me growing up, and it shaped a lot of my personality. It wasn’t like Avatar, Zim, or Samurai Jack, but it didn’t have to be. It was a comedy. And it was really funny, quotable, likable, memorable, sometimes heart-warming, and in a strange way beautiful. You may think it’s nostalgia but I’ve analyzed the show to death. In bad episodes before the movie, you would think of something like “The Great Snail Race” because of the mean-spirit and Spongebob being out of character, but that episode was really damn funny. Patrick distracted me from its problems because he was that enjoyable, while not great as a whole, it wasn’t unwatchable. The best parts of the original run (before the movie) was its characters, simple stories, and excellently timed comedy. The new seasons sh*t on all of these. The simple stories worked because there was a lot of material to get from it giving us episodes like Jellyfishing, Wet Painters, The Camping Episode, and Squid on Strike. Now we get Waiting, Gone, and SPONGEBOB YOURE FIRED. What about the comedy? The best way I can describe that is new incompetent writers/seasonal rot. And as for the characters... while not extremely complex, they were all layered and served a purpose. Here’s what I mean:
Spongebob: a good natured person with a love for jellyfishing, bubbles, and life in general; he isn’t the brightest person out there but he has moments of maturity even though he’s naive, he cared for all of his friends, including Squidward but he had his limits like in “Can You Spare A Dime?” While sometimes annoying, never malicious or annoying to the audience. A wonderfully rounded character. Now we have “Choir Boys”
I hope the writers know that they kill fond memories of this once great show.
Party Saint What annoyed me about "The Great Snail Race" was the punchline involving Sandy kicking SpongeBob's butt at the end and yelling "THAT'S FOR YESTERDAY SQUAREPANTS!!!", which was part of a joke that was alluded to once previously in the episode, when she overheard SpongeBob calling Gary a girl (to demean Gary). Yes Sponge may have deserved it, but couldn't the butt kicking come from Squidward? Sandy being in that episode seemed as though she may have been shoehorned into the episode for the sake of a joke; if this were, say Patrick's cameo in "Graveyard Shift" ("...Oh boy, 3AM!") I'd take that.

A very recent episode "Ink Lemonade" is a very bad atrocity as it may be the worst Squidward torture episode and it came out in 2018 in Season 11 and I can't believe they would ever treat Squidward in that episode like how Plankton got treated in "One Coarse Meal", where Patrick and SpongeBob scare Squidward so much that they use his ink to sell black lemonade. I'm dead SERIOUS. Hopefully TheMysteriousMrEnter can review it in the near future.

Yeah I would totally agree with you. This episode feels like a Top 5 for me maybe Top 3 since I put this above "The Splinter", "To Love a Patty", "Squid Baby", "A Pal for Gary" and "One Coarse Meal", but I hate "Pet Sitter Pat" more and nothing can top "SpongeBob You're Fired".
That sounds...disturbing and gross. I have not seen Spongebob since maybe Season 5 or so, so yeah I'm way behind in what all has been happening to the show lately apart from reviews like this one. But the episode you just described sounds all kinds of awful. Forcibly using Squidward's ink to make lemonade would be like collecting somebody else's sweat and turning it into some kind of messed up seasoning. You would think Spongebob would be against that type of thing since that one episode where he catches Mr. Krabs abusing all of the jellyfish for his own personal gain. I remember when I first watched these episodes. Deep down I felt extremely frustrated watching them, and I felt severely empathetic for Squidward. I legitimately could not watch these episodes without feeling ashamed, upset or wrong. But because I was 9 and didn't know any better, I thought I was alone in my sympathy towards Squidward. Turns out I was wrong. ;)

Mostly because he is very hard to please. His interests are incredibly erudite and sophisticated, which are difficult to express in this brand of show-not in the early seasons when it was a family show. Probably the best way to show Squidward being successful would be an episode where Squidward takes advantage of his strengths, as opposed to attempting to shoehorn himself into something he is not skilled. Last episode I can think of that did that proper is Suction Cup Symphony. He may not be good at playing his clarinet, but he is a master composer and conductor.

Revisiting this video, I understand that there's copyright issues, (especially with how incompetent TH-cam is with it) but it just doesn't seem right without the transition song. I get that there's only so many songs about someone being miserable, and even fewer that won't get a copyright claim/strike, but COME ON, TH-cam!!! This is such a kill joy! Part of what made me enjoy this video was the transition song!

I can't believe I'm saying this but remember the scene from Stuck In The Wringer in where the Town's Folk Criticizes Spongebob for snapping at Patrick rightfully so, Take that scene and place it after Spongebob snapping at Squidward in A Breath Of Fresh Squidward, wouldn't it make more sence there? Think about it, the People at the party criticize Spongebob for hurting Squidward's feeling at his own party and then leave him alone in Patrick's House thinking what he has done, it would of made more sense for Spongebob to apologize to Squidward than the actual Ending to the Episode in fact it would of made the Episode at least decent

A lot of people think that these ones are bad, but what about the post movie SpongeBob torture porns? The list of them:
1. The Splinter-SpongeBob literally did nothing wrong to deserve the torture that he got from Squidward or Patrick in this episode.
2. Stuck in the Wringer-Patrick was the one that did it. Squidward also made a nasty remark towards Spongebob here.
3. SpongeBob, You're Fired!-I don't hate this episode, but it is a SpongeBob torture porn nonetheless.
4. Little Yellow Book-If this took place the day after Boating Buddies, Choir Boys or Good Neighbors, then I'd understand Squidward wanting to hurt SpongeBob in the way that he did here. This was never implied though, so I'll assume that it didn't.
5. Yours, Mines and Mine-It's an okay episode though since SpongeBob at least sticks it to Patrick here.

9. Big Sister Sam-He was actually intelligent in this episode and called Patrick out on his antics, but still got treated as if he was in the wrong for whatever reason.

I wouldn't consider Little Yellow Book a "torture porn" (tbh this name sounds stupid) because it focuses more on Squidward being a dick than it does on SpongeBob being miserable. Even then, being miserable isn't a "torture porn", it's simply his feelings being hurt. That being said, the episode still sucks.
The Bikini Bottom townspeople are as bad as if not worse than Squidward in that episode seeing as they read Spongebob's diary with him then when Spongebob finds out they act like they didn't know it was his diary and blame everything on Squidward to cover their asses.

I think I hate this show now. Thanks for saving me. I'm kinda disgusted by Patrick and spongebob now. Today, I saw an episode where Patrick and Spongebob LITERALLY SPENT AT LEAST 5 MINUTES OF THE OPENING OF THE EPISODE SCREAMING. AT. CARS.
SAiKA You and me both hate Spongebob Squarepants series. Squidward's life being torment by Spongebob and Patrick is not funny. Patrick being a jackass and selfishness and a prick is not funny and it's annoying. Mr. Krabs being a cheapskate is so boring and not funny.

Normally, he'd freak out "OH NO the house is destroying the town!" let alone knowing whether his house is _sentinent_ (assuming he did, he would've chased it around some)! Here he acts like the house isn't even his *priority* at that point (he doesn't even bother to go after it) - while moaning about how "the idiots" (SpongeBob and Patrick) "took [his] house" when they *JUST HAPPENED TO BE THERE* *_this time,_* their destroying the security system with the cake was an accident, and they were just as concerned as they try to find a OFF button or switch around the house to avoid it destroying Bikini Bottom

I actually really liked Good Neighbors. There was a short moment implied in "Secret Box" where Squidward's house was sentient.
I thought Squidward's execution of that line was so spot on witty. He's just desensitized to the idiocracy around him 24/7, he's just "okay" with his house being sentient. XD

@@Whimsy3692 Also note that Squidward got in trouble by a city official because Squidward owned the house - Sqiudward is the kind of guy that would either freak out or get annoyed over authorities and city officials getting him in trouble (see "Keeping Bikini Bottom Beautiful" among other eps). Unless he somehow expected to get in trouble for the actions of his own house.

and were responsible for EVERYTHING! GAAH! FUCK THIS EPISODE! This episode is when Squidward torture porn started to become a regular staple in Spongebob episodes and this one is just one of the meanest, cruelest, and just plain unfair of them all.

The worst part of this show now is that the world in it is so cruel and the wrongdoings never get any consequences for their actions. Then the good characters in this show that are just trying to live their lives like squidward get treated terribly and are punished for no reason. This mindset of story writing is both infuriating and potentially dangerous to children who actually see these characters as role models.
Sometimes, that's real life.
