  • In this video I talk about how Venus flytraps can count and how they know what they are eating. I try to feed my Venus flytrap candy to see if it will actually digest it.

I love how the ants came. It was such a perfect example of how nature works. The flytrap "killed" the bean, left some behind, and the ants came to scavenge the excess. And there is still more going on that you can't see with the bacteria & parasites that use the ant to get nutrients. Also, don't forget the pesky human, running one of his "experiments," who had the capability to manually trigger this cascade of nature.

It's more about intellect, so the fact it can "count" would probably be more of an indicator of what they'd have issue with.
Fun fact: Human Breast Milk and Semen can technically be vegan if consent is given by the one producing it.
Human meat could too, and cannibalism is technically not illegal. It's just the normal methods of acquiring the meat that are. Should the person losing the meat (injury, death, etc) provide consent by wiling it to you, selling, or gifting it, you can legally enjoy some long-pork.

I can answer this, and the video bothers me in a way I can't describe because of it.
Carnivorous plants like the flytrap will lose a trap when it eats anything other than insects or - and this is probably not as true, so take this with a grain of salt - small prey like frogs. The trap he put the candy into is going to rot away, starting from the tip and turning black all the way down to the rhizome of the trap. Sadly, that big, beautiful trap is going to die for his experiment. On the bright side I really hope people are smarter than to feed their predatory plants a piece of candy for glucose, something they make through photosynthesis rather than absorbing from prey.

I had a couple fly traps growing up. I used to catch bugs in my garden just to hand feed it because I liked watching the traps close. I went overboard and put a bug in every single trap and the whole plant turned black and died days later. I learned that they use up a lot of energy when they close their traps, so excessive triggering of the traps can cause it to die. They really only need soggy soil and a fly or two a month to thrive 🥲

Stick a sealed but opened bottle of honey next to your windowsill, like above/next to your kitchen sink (depending on your set up). The next day you'll find ants inside the container lol
I've seen it happen numerous times in a couple different houses. Growing up my parents would put theirs in that location and I was like "uh, you know there's a bunch of ants in here right?" and they were like "eh it's fine" lmfao we were also pretty poor tho 👀🤣
But seriously I've seen it a few times, really wild how they can not only get into your house but into a closed bottle of honey lol the side of the bottle wasn't even sticky 😂
I should also clarify I'm from Florida aka a swamp so we got a lot of bugs out here lol

    • @botanic3428

Nope. It would much prefer normal insects, those are more likely to have the nutrients the plants „needs“. Candy will probably just make it weaker and weaker in the long run, since it doesn’t need extra glucose teally

A week ago I put 2 pounds of beans in my crockpot with no salt add beef broth and about 8 of the beans sprouted after 5 hours. Today I am doing an experiment with seeds. Half get water half get no salt add beef broth. I'm testing beans, okra, tomato seeds, squash, and seeds of the sensitive plant ( momosa pudica). I'm excited to see how it turns out.

I just give mine a couple of drops of water soluble fertilizer. The traps look very nice after they open.
Your plant needs a bit more light to look it’s best, but you are good at keeping the slime off the sphagnum.
If you have a larger window you can also get a telegraph plant. They are constantly moving. They move their leaves to deal with the wind direction, rain, and night.

hi hello i have a few questions about fly traps since mine isn’t doing well
    1. what soil do you use? is pure peat moss alright for them?
    2. how much light does yours get, can they sit in direct sunlight?
    3. if fed something too big, will they die?
    4. can a fly trap survive if it has no healthy “heads”?
    5. do they prefer to be watered normally or should i let the pot sit in a bowl of water so it can drink from the hole in the bottom?
    sorry for asking a lot
