I'm from Palau Islands and i live in Naperville IL and whenever i go visit my parents at the island, they always request american type of snacks and food stuff, then when i return, they give me so much stuff from the island. Little something from home really helps with the home sickness.😊

In Italy there's a saying...it's "knock with your foot" (in english knock with your elbow). You never go visit someone empty handed.

This part. Carlo is healthy masculinity personified. An international treasure.
First of all, I met my love Carlo when he was here from Calabria one year+ with his family. They traveled by ship. Although 3rd class, as a young man of 19, he found his joy crashing parties on the upper deck. He arrived in NYC in winter and he told me he was upset that the freezing snow covered the gold streets. 🤷♀️ He lived in MA one year and I met him after the move to CT. His family was “different” to this New Englander and, of course, “Mangia!” was the first word I learned in Italian. We married one month later. Yes. 1 month. 36 years later, after raising 3 amazing sons (with 1 granddaughter) who only answered, “Italian,” when asked what nationality they were, and a much interesting life with this largest character I ever knew, success followed hard work. Our sons learned negotiation from the best and it has carried over to our 3 successful businessmen. We planned our first trip to Calabria, Martone, our semi retirement after 36 yrs. One night, in a flash, Carlo passed next to me. 18.5 years later, he is still missed everyday. Carlo helped send us 6 more grandchildren from heaven that he’d be SO proud of. The cost was giving up our oldest son to cancer 6 months ago. I am comforted that they play the accordion for Nonna together and make heaven a happier fun place waiting for me someday. 10 yrs ago I remarried a calmer, quieter, still interesting older gentleman, one I’m sure Carlo okayed for this time in my life. We moved to Florida. We share our late spouses, our first loves, with each other and they live among so many photographs and life journeys. I never got to explore Reggio Calabria although various internet, tv shows will educate me. SO,,, I have NO IDEA how I happened across a short of yours. A beautiful smart Italian couple taking advantage of modern day internet! He would have Loved this medium!! So, I binge watched you most of the night stopping at 3am. I recall the language barrier and making excuses if he inadvertently said something that might offend 😂😮. It was not until this morning that I THINK your Carlo mentioned he waited for the train to his Region… was it Calabria??? If so, May I ask which town? Martone is mostly only for holidays now like the Festival of St Anthony he told us of often and climbing the greased pole (we hung on his stories when I only got to read bedtime tales). One son wrote a children’s book fantasizing his Dad’s stories The Magic Donkey when he was in 5th grade, published by Raintree. There are so many craZy stories, various businesses, wild rides to tell about. I apologize for the length when my purpose was to thank you both for popping up. I look forward to your good health and many more stories, journeys supported by the world. Thank you for my revisitation of the many foods I learned to cook and family companionship (forgot how to spell camaraderie). Passing down recipes and culture of old Calabria is so important!! Times may get tough but communication and calm (although with 2 passionate Italians I wonder if that’s always possible😂) wins.

i HAVE to say. Carlo, I don't know you personally but with every new video I am convinced you are one of the purest hearts on this planet. The way you talk (with your hands, of course!) with such happiness and wonderment and love is a joy to listen to. Those big brown eyes of yours... always wide open and full of excitement like a child experiencing every new adventure Sarah introduces you to! they also allow _us_ to see a little deeper into your soul... and they show that you are truly a beautiful human being, inside and out.

Carlo speaks English so well. He could have his own travel show. It proves you have to be immersed in the language to learn it.
That's the excuse Americans make for not bothering to learn other languages.

I'm from the U.S. but have lived in France for 14 years. The first time going home without your spouse feels strange, but there's also something freeing about it. You can enjoy your time without worrying about the other person. When you're together daily, it's good to miss your spouse; it keeps things fresh. Lovely videos. We love 🇮🇹 too. ❤️

@sullfolife I understand better, so I'll elaborate. Yes, the French are not the easiest to please, for sure, and oddly, I find French women to be more difficult than French men. The women have strong friend zones that aren't easy to access, but in time, they warm up.
What area in France are you moving to? I think that matters, too. I live in the South - the Cote d'Azur and many foreigners live here and speak English, so it's easier to find groups than in other areas. Also, the French prefer Canadians over Americans, so hopefully, it will be easier for your partner. I am not sure of your age, but I was older when I met my French husband in the States and then moved to France, so I overcame difficulties easier. Does your partner speak French? If so, that's a plus. I knew no French before moving here, except for a couple of words, which made the experience a bit more challenging. Plus, I had to take the Code de la Route after a year, and you know that's not easy. 😏 Otherwise, I have adjusted, even though the language is still imperfect.
Everything is attitude. I've learned not to take things personally, which is crucial.

My husband is from Torino. He has been here long enough his English is excellent. His love of Italian food takes us to a special store quite frequently to buy meats and cheeses. Our grandkids are all hooked. They have inherited their grandfather's love of the food. Which we cook every time they are here. I do, however, believe I love Italy more than he does. I want to move there. Him, not so much.
Italy is a good place but we have a lot of problems, I think is for this maybe that your husband doesn't want to come back. Turin, our city...magic

Sarah I took have heart and health issues to do autoimmune conditions and I'm not allowed to long distance travel. I don't think you guys ever been apart but it will be ok. Your guys love is so inspiring and shit makes me emotional. My family is from same spot your family is from which is super cool. Love you two. I know what it’s like to be apart from you partner. Stay strong. Thankfully with the technologies we have today, you can still stay in touch, but that’s still a far cry from actually being together. My job took me away from my wife many times, not for too long, say 3 or 4 days at a time and that was tough. I retired early with a reduced pension just to be with her. Small compensation for all the previous absences, but we’ve been retired now for 20 years and never been apart. I wish you all the best and may you spend many many years together enjoying each other’s company.

I was 16 in 1974 and took a one and a half month trip with my parents all over Italy and had a great time.
Sarah, I hope and pray for you that you figure out this thing with your heart. It took me many years to find out that I have atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, PVCs and PACs. Drs treated me like I was crazy, but I kept on searching for answers. I finally found the cardiologist for me and he diagnosed me and now I'm on heart medication that has given me back my life. I hope you find the right cardiologist for you and that you one day get answers. Nobody knows us like we know us.. we know our bodies better than anyone or any doctor.. be your best advocate, ok? Good luck, sweetheart. Sending you love n hugs. Sorry you had to miss Carlo's trip and being able to see his family and be there with him, but you'll get your turn before long. Have faith.
