I really like the look of the Aeronca Model L. It has a nice thick tapered wing with lots of dihedral and the spats look great. One of those looks right, flies right designs. There's a little Beech Staggerwing look to it in the cowl and vertical stabilizer. Where's the top wing? It's a better idea than the contemporary Ryan St that had open cockpits and bracing wires. The Model L was probably affordable in it's day. ($3,000?) It's nice to see an inspired design flying again.

I just discovered this channel, and I subscribed! I’m not a pilot, but I love aviation. I recently took a discovery flight in a Piper Warrior, and then took an additional lesson. It’s so much fun! I doubt I’ll get my license because I already have a career, and learning to fly is an expensive hobby. I’ll have to love vicariously through TH-cam!

I've enjoyed all your videos, Dewey, and taken an interest in the history of Aeronca as a result. So this one on the L was *so* informative! Thanks

Wow! That Aeronca low wing is exactly the plane that my dad bought in early June 1936 to fly on their honeymoon on June 24 of the same year.

David, that is a great story. Do you have pictures of your dads low wing? If your ever in Ohio let me know and I'll be happy to show you the plane.

Love Aeroncas. Had shares in two Chiefs. The first one got written off in a take off accident. Got a replacement but then soon after buying it sold it on. Wish I had bought it myself

Nice video tour. I have always been intrigued by the low wing Aeronca's. The old b&w photos of the production line is as close as I've been to one. Hope to see this one in person someday.

I fell heads over heels in love with this beauty when I saw it in a model plane catalogue here in Argentina when I was only 5 years old! Now at 85 I still love it. Thanks for the nice video.

Always loved the Aeronca airplanes. From the moment I first learned of the Aeronca Low Wing, I could not help but wonder ... why a two-seater? A glamour girl like that in the 1930's, most likely attracting a wealthier audience, might've done better as a business oriented four-seater. But if Aeronca was initially intending it with a 36 hp. engine, I guess they still envisioned private aircraft as two-seaters with small engines. Interesting to note that, postwar, they were working up a two-seat low wing plane with retracting gear, the Aeronca Arrow.

Great video!!! Am I the only one who wonders if they play it by ear as to where they will stop along the way? Or, is it carefully planned and arranged with the land owners/grass strips?

Very nice plane. Why the j3cub paint scheme though? Also, it would have been nice to see a cockpit view while in flight.

Thanks for watching. Just a little history about the Aeronca low wing paint scheme. This is the original paint scheme from 1936. Not sure who used the thunderbolt first but it seems to fit that Era pretty well.

This 36 Aeronca is amazing. Check my video of flying the 41 Super Chief across the county.
