Chasing MBTA’s First Heritage Unit on the CapeFlyer + Test Trains on the Fairmount Line

About this video: On August 23, 2024, I got two videos at the Fairmount station of a test run of the MBTA’s CapeFlyer consist as a preparation for the equipment entering service later that day. This is an operation that can be seen on Friday afternoons during the CapeFlyer’s season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) as a way for mechanical personnel to confirm the equipment’s readiness for service. On this particular Friday, the power for the train was GP40MC-3s 1137 and 1138. Exactly one week later on August 30, I returned to the Fairmount station to capture another test run of the CapeFlyer consist. This time, the 1138 had been moved to the north end of the consist and freshly rebuilt GP40MC-3 1129 in a fresh paint scheme (made to resemble a classic MBTA look known as the “cranberry” scheme) was in place on the south end. After this equipment had been confirmed for the evening run to Hyannis, I crossed paths with the revenue run of CapeFlyer train 9001 at the Middleborough/Lakeville station with the 1129 leading. I got two more shots of this train at the stations in Buzzards Bay and Sandwich before calling it a night.

Awesome footage. Saw the 1129/1138 flyer at Holbrook Randolph.
Also, do you know what the deal with Josh is? he invited me to the thing next friday that apparently you’re going to but then kicked me out of that so idk what’s happening now

0:24 it’s so odd to me how their premier service has such poor windows, and old rolling stock.. the bike car is fine because people don’t usually stay there, but the first class car has windows you can’t even see out of, and no outlets at the seats…
