the sooner people can process that fame doesn’t always translate to wealth, the sooner we can start tackling the more important issues as a collective.

Exactly! Fame and wealth are each a combination of luck, timing, and opportunity, even if you have them handed to you at birth. And those things don't come from nowhere, most wealth is generated by exploiting others.

These animators work so hard for so little pay

This is also why it bristles me so much when people describe media as "lazy" especially when they don't take into consideration the material reality and circumstances the work is made under. Like you got people out here striking and fighting for their lives now having the wildfires on top of it. It's incarcerated people being forced into combatting this which further adds to the racial inequality component.
Effort is consistently one of the biggest expenses in project management of most kinds. Budget directly ties into the timeline people have to produce a work. It's not "laziness" in most cases it comes down to budget, mandates, and deadlines nine times out of ten.
Yes, the film and TV industry is extremely inaccessible and extremely unequal, but those people are not the ones largely being victimized by the fires.

Are people not allowed to criticize piece of media?

    • @BlackAutMedia
      @BlackAutMedia 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

@@debbieganger Can you not be obtuse about this? Nowhere did I say people can't criticize media.
I literally run a channel that's exactly that. Calling media "lazy" especially when in just the last year alone we've seen writers strikes for people that contextualize the quality of a lot of media in the last few years isn't criticism.
Strikes have historically had direct effects on the way media is written and looking at a show's budget, what deadlines it was set to, and what mandates that set to it by an owning company usually gives you far more insight than just calling writers lazy or out of ideas.

Honestly hoping the LA animators and artists can be able to rebuild what they lost. People really gotta show more empathy to em along with the other non wealthy residents. Also off topic but I like how your artwork is improving a lot

It's the hyper visibility and proximity to very wealthy people that makes it seem for some reason that *everyone* in the entertainment industry is making bank. I understand the perspective of people seeing a movie made millions of dollars and believing it all goes to the creators. I think the heads of these companies really benefit from that perception since it keeps most people from asking exactly where all that money is going in the first place.
Everyone should have free housing and healthcare. No one decided to be born, and yet we have to pay to live. I wish there would be serious (inter)national conversations about social safety nets outside of a crisis. People deserve better

thank you for talking about this. i grew up wanting to work in animation and idolizing crew members, but truth be told most of them were likely just barely making enough to get by. the situation right now is devastating, on top of the animation industry having already been in a poor state beforehand

Because it was never about eating the rich . That the same people who worship rich people ,celebrities but at the same time envy them . That the same people who do not like people who have more than them . That goes to extent that even if you have as much as them or even if you have less than them , so many want you to be miserable .

Honestly, I just assumed that all animators in LA aren't that well off because of the cost of living in SOCal and the average yearly income for an animator. Plus I'm from California, (NorCal specifically) and I've visited LA multiple times, you don't need to tell me twice that people of all economic backgrounds live in LA.

Yeah, people believe YT’ers, content creators and workers in the industry are rolling in money.
I learned early that it’s false. Worked security for a decade and have several coworkers who have had national/global commercials, television and films.
After hearing the saying, 15% of the industry actually work. While the remaining 85% are still trying to keep the lights on is still valid.
Right now, there’s a makeup artist suing her coworkers & the only reason she may get compensation is because of those same coworkers ignoring her issues, for years!

There is always precarity in being an artist or sportman .It is why we have this same story over and over again about parents who did not want their child to be an actor etc because it does not pay the bills .
People are just massive hypocrite . And even for the succesful artists , in general their are owned by big corporations who exploited them again and again . There are so many horror stories about the economic downfall of stars because of them .

A common misconception I see when it comes to the animation industry, is that people think that animators from companies like Disney make bank because of their large box office numbers. In reality, most of that money goes straight to the pockets of the executives at the top, while the animators and other creatives responsible for the actual movies are payed meager single paychecks.
And its a misconception that is often weaponized to against piracy, to create a narrative that piracy hurts artists, when in reality, piracy has been a major contributor in helping to preserve animated media against the rise of streaming services that have outright deleted entire animated shows that have no physical copies.

Thanks for making this video, I do visdev for animation and have not been able to get a paying job since I graduated. Ordinarily that’d place me among the minority of graduates from my school, but other people with 10+ year careers have told me that this is a weird time for job seekers. It feels like companies don’t actually want to hire talent, but say that they do.

I’m annoyed with people participating in things they have absolutely no knowledge about.
