My hubby and I are Jamaican-Canadians. We have been here for over 30 years. We have paid our dues. We now live in the countryside of Ontario and are loving it. Wherever you are, you will face challenges and you will have to make choices. Your choices will determine your outcome. For someone who has gone through some health challenges, I appreciate a decent healthcare system and social services and decent infrastructure. Sure, we pay our fair share of taxes. However, I can see tax dollars at work, at least for the most part. If I have one negative to say, it is that Canada NEEDS to make better provisions for foreign trained professionals to be better able to use their education/training to earn a decent wage. Rather than requesting for them to start from scratch. Then again, the approach may just be a part of the Economic Strategy, for people to go back to college and university for dollars they cannot afford. This is where things can get very discouraging for immigrants. Before I emigrated from Jamaica, my pastor told me that I should bear in mind that in another person's country, I will always be a second-class citizen. What do you all think? 🤔

I came to Canada about 15 yrs ago as an immigrant. I was able to afford a basement rental as a beginner for about $500 per month with all the bells and whistles. No sharing room. My Condo purchase in the GTA was about $245,000 for a 2 bedrooms 10 yrs ago. My wife and I only had to come up with approx. $10k down payment. Same condo is priced today at the upper $600k. The new Canadian generation whether Canadian born or immigrant are completely screwed by the system. The over-inflated of shelter and living cost deliver a deadly financial blow to both Canadians and immigrant alike.
You can sell your condo to a deserving family for less. If enough people do it, prices will fall. Or you don't want it, why? And why do you think others should do it if enough people are willing to pay the higher price? That's how the market works, perhaps in 15 years spent here you should have figured it out.
@@tudvalstone Doesn’t work that way. Bad government policies, red tape, real estate speculation fueled by excessive greed, stagnant gdp/ capita are all to blame for the Canadian situation. Too much immigration with no added infrastructure and housing to accommodate them. This results to big housing supply shortage. Be honest about Canada. Things are not the same anymore. Canadian housing is the most expensive in North America. Vancouver is for example more expensive than neighbouring Seattle. Yet the income you get in Seattle is on average over 50% that in Vancouver. So in Canada, you are making less than those in the US and paying more…way more!
I had a coworker complain that he was not making enough hours. I told him there was some extra shifts available. But he didn’t want to work any weekends at all or overnights and when I put him in touch with a manager who was actively looking for people to cover more shifts he never followed up.
My half family are born in Canada and yes indeed work in Canada are scarce and to many challenges resume and workforce competitions . Trust me I’m among also a child grew up in Canada and I’m moving out from Canada ! Glad I’m moving out ! It’s a struggle and miserable living in Canada .
Where are you moving to if you don’t mind me asking? Hopefully it’s somewhere with free health care and safe communities. 😊. Excuse the sarcasm I’m just having fun I wish you all the best thanks for watching.
I am Jamaican and I can tell you "why you dont go back to your country?!" People back home still stuck in this legacy mentality that if you go abroad, you should come back home successful. So in the heads of most immigrants, if you go back home broke, you'll be looked at as the village laughing stock.
I appreciate your perspective we have family and friends living in Canada 🍁 your experiences are based on your personal experiences you cannot make generalizations. Each of us are responsible for our journey we cannot blame others for our choices. One love🖤💚💛
I think one of the reasons why a lot of people( including Canadians) are critical of life in Canada now is because the sacrifices that they have to make in Canada and the States is more now than before. It's a fact that the COL is much higher now. So, some might say considering the climate, the racism ( yes racism), reduced "social life" etc it's not worth the move. Living in tural Canada can be quite a sacrifice for many. Personally because I'm not lazy and a lover of nature it would not be an issue for me. To each his own. I love your channel, quite informative and honest. Keep up the good work.
I agree. Although I don't live in Canada, those videos suggest a sentiment among some who have immigrated there that they are now resistant to others following the same path.
You can find good job in canada you can even become a Doctor or MPA in canada but you can't pay off property in canada thats the problem you own nothing plus you live lonely life no matter you are very Rich you have to fight with cold dark winter and live alone eat good in a cage like a prison thats my conclusion
I think different types of immigrants experience canada differently. There are immigrants who have come that were very very well off in their country, and simply did not achieve the same level of success in canada that they got in their home country. But although not financially better off they stay because the society is better... less crime, better infrastructure, better access to health services etc. Although they are not as successful financially.
Yes but by those standards their immigration story is still a success. I am African. And trust me if you are well off in Africa you don’t migrate out of it. You will go for vacation to First world country. Sometimes living staying for 3 to 6 months at a time. And when they do migrate they always have their business back home supporting them in Canada. The Doctor who had a hospital in Nigeria and then came to Canada. Did his hospital just close down? No doctor even in the poorest nations in the world are amongst the poorest in their country. And this man wasn’t even at the bottom junior doctor. He was a specialist. And he owned his own hospital. Something doesn’t add up. And my perspective is as an African Caribbean who has lived in some of the poorest nations in the world and also happens to be a doctor.
@ibrahim6960 certainly not a failure in my eyes or yours but from the videos by their's. They are using their sucess in their own country to measure their success here. The demography of immigrants has somewhat changed throughout the years and whereas in times past most people were running from worse circumstances... a lot of economic immigrants are coming from better financial circumstances. What I'm saying is that canada may be better financially for persons whose situations were worse off in their home country but for others it just is not the level of financial sucess they are used to or were expecting. But they choose to remain for other reasons. In fact though a recent poll was released that said a lot of economic immigrants are actually leaving canada and choosing not to become citizens.
I am not sure how to post the link but you can search for the video here on TH-cam...The institute for canadian citizenship commissioned a poll that said other categories of immigrants stay such as intl students and temporary foreign workers but the economic immigrants are leaving at really high rates
The hard part for the new immigrants is housing startingb1 bedroom 1600 not including utilities. If you go in british columbia or toronto 2500 1 bedroom.a lot of job mostly in factory . Now a days if younrent a room share withnstudent 4 in bedroom
I feel so sorry for immigrants because even Canadians are trying to flee!!!! In Canada, there is NO DREAM. You will stress, work your ass off and NEVER LIVE LIFE. Never. Unless you pick the right career like a doctor or something, you will never live life in Canada. The Caribbean is the dream life!!! Not Canada. I don't know who's filling all of these people's heads.
Nobody migrate to a new country and expect perfection. People don't really talk about the challenges, everyone sell this perfect picture, that all will be well when you move to a new country. No amount of research you do will prepare you for the challenges you'll face. Some people have a smooth sailing, other people just have a very difficult time. That's that. To say "if it's so difficult why don't you just move home", it's not as easy as it sounds. People sell their assests to move to a new country, gave up their jobs, do you think it's easy for them to just "go back"?
Sir with all due respect, it’s not only the cities that are unaffordable. Housing costs outside of major cities are still very expensive. Not to mention food costs. We don’t live above our means. Your analysis in that last point is a generalized pov. Lots of people just living hand to mouth and can just barely survive. Please have a more balanced view. You are also misleading your viewers.
Yup .. Call 'em out Demz ... I wanna see receipts for the dude that bought two houses after 7 years work'n in Jamaica and saved NOTHING in 20 years of being in Canada? We need MORE of his story. Fer sure!
Easier said than done, most people sold their houses, cars and their belongings back home to come to canada, where are they going to go now without a house waiting for them back home?
I personally live in a small town. Its a lie. Everything is expensive. This video is just there to give people false hope. Personally when l came to Canada l came knowing what its gonna be. I knew its not gonna be a walk in the park. My advice is that if you have a stable job and a stable income back at home, think twice before you embark on you parthway to Canada
Immigration is best for people just starting out in life or nothing else to lose. If you are established and have assets etc, I wouldn't advise it. Also it is highly advisable to research before you decide to permanently leave. Do your research and you need support system. Factors such as location, type of job/field, support ties etc. play a key part in what your experience will be like.
This is a hard one to discuss. Many people leave their families, sell their homes and take out their lifesavings just to move here. Then they realise that the jobs are not here. Yes, you get the passport, in most cases. However, after that it gets boring. It’s cold, the currency is weak, and the lifestyle is only nice during the summer. Please, go to Canada if you’re below the age of 35. Look at the courses that are in need and pay above 85K. Like Dental hygienist or anything data, engineering, etc. Otherwise your net will be 4K and you will have to get a second job!!! I’m speaking from experience! Once I get my citizenship in the next few months, I out of here!
Even though you may have had a great experience being here, there’s lots of persons who’ve had the opposite(there’s so many stories). And I don’t think it’s okay to discredit their experience. Maybe they did indeed expect life to be better than what they lived back home but I agree, if you have a great life in your home country, doesn’t make sense moving here. And that’s my opinion. Maybe their intention isn’t to stop people from coming, but to help someone who is trying to make a decision, see another side of the coin before moving here.
It's a scam in terms of taxes because the return on that investment doesn't add up for the working man. There are opportunities for sure, but anyone that think working 2-3 jobs to survive in a country has got no respect for their health.
#kermitdrinkingteagif I have a lot to say on this but I will sip my tea like Kermit before responding. Canada is not a scam, but the world is set in such a way that some will always have more and some will always have less. I will say no more. I am grateful for the opportunity I have. 🙂
Canada of the past and Canada of today are two different places. Canada of today is hard to live everywhere and Toronto is a sh*thole> I've lived a few countries and cities.
As a capitalist society, the IRCC was more focused on having, what Karl Marx termed as the, "Reserve army of labour" knowing that Canada has a lot of immigrants who are unemployed & underemployed. What they forgot to take into consideration was the lack of infrastructure to accommodate these immigrants. More importantly, they forgot about the needs of 'Native Canadians" who are now caught in the same trap of being unemployed & underemployed as the immigrants, no affordable housing, people living in makeshift tents etc...Housing, jobs, food & so forth are critically needed as they are social determinants of health.
Your experiences and opinions are yours, likewise, those persons has theirs and it is theirs to know and have expressed. Who are you to discredit it and assume you know how they live or experiencing????
@@altheatulloch7432 uhm no. I disagree. No one is invalidating their experience. But those people have chosen to make generalized statements on marginalized information. That’s like if someone got burnt in the kitchen and then stated that all kitchens are bad and no one should cook. Their experience is a valid one but their opinion formed isn’t necessarily correct because the statistics does not support there conclusion. It’s the same here. Some people rather than analyze what they did wrong and were burned in the kitchen and come up with safety advice and say what they could have done differently, have simply gone on a campaign that cooking in the kitchen is bad and a terrible idea. What Demz has simply done is to state that while some people may have had bad experiences, the conclusion is not necessarily that “Canada is a scam, don’t come”. I have been here less than a year, and the success stories of immigrants here is mind blowing.
Good video Demz…… But listen, even the small cites have become very competitive. Rent is almost the same as the big cities. My friend got here 1 1/2 years now and still no job. It’s very competitive.

Do like me a studio apartment and saving money 😂😂😂they want to live with the Jones what the hell i live in Toronto i don't want a car 😂😂the first thing they want when they get here they want a car 😂car is a liability car in Canada is not for poor people. 😂😂
Canada is not a scam...Canada's demographics has changed and affordability has changed along with this demographic change. I feel badly for anyone coming from countries other than India because of these changes. These massive changes affect Canadian citizens as well. It once was a great country. It's unbelievable how much it has changed in only 5 years.
Great video. You’re right! Avoid Toronto and nearby. Toronto’s population is over 3 million of over 16 million in Ontario vs Alberta 4.8 million…that gives an idea of what is explained here. The more ppl in one place, the more demand, bigger market, hence, increased cost of living.
It's still much better than where many of you are coming from far better than Jamaica, the more sacrifices we need to start doing is to stay and build our own country

Work is not scarse most if these people just don't want to work for it
I had a coworker complain that he was not making enough hours. I told him there was some extra shifts available. But he didn’t want to work any weekends at all or overnights and when I put him in touch with a manager who was actively looking for people to cover more shifts he never followed up.
@ibrahim6960 they just want everything easily and free. When you speak the truth they say your discriminating lol
Bless up. Thanks for watching and sharing.
I am Jamaican and I can tell you "why you dont go back to your country?!" People back home still stuck in this legacy mentality that if you go abroad, you should come back home successful. So in the heads of most immigrants, if you go back home broke, you'll be looked at as the village laughing stock.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
I appreciate your perspective we have family and friends living in Canada 🍁 your experiences are based on your personal experiences you cannot make generalizations. Each of us are responsible for our journey we cannot blame others for our choices. One love🖤💚💛
very wise sensible guy.... the complainers are full of BS!
Thanks for watching and sharing.
Thanks for watching.
@yaniq2 the government is cracking down on temp workers and students now. They are lowering the numbers of PR's too.
Thanks for sharing your insight and for watching.
Fair point. Thanks for watching.
Fair point. Thank you for watching.
Yup .. Call 'em out Demz ... I wanna see receipts for the dude that bought two houses after 7 years work'n in Jamaica and saved NOTHING in 20 years of being in Canada? We need MORE of his story. Fer sure!
I'll try to dig up more information for you! 👍 lol
Did he say tell you he was from Jamaica? He may be from the Caribbean but definitely not from Jamaica.
@@favour3319 10 4 your right, I assumed. My Bad. ✌
Lot of africans complaining, esp. Nigerians and most of them are still here. If things are better back home. Well.......
Thanks for watching and sharing!
They are all trapped😂😂
Easier said than done, most people sold their houses, cars and their belongings back home to come to canada, where are they going to go now without a house waiting for them back home?
I personally live in a small town. Its a lie. Everything is expensive. This video is just there to give people false hope. Personally when l came to Canada l came knowing what its gonna be. I knew its not gonna be a walk in the park. My advice is that if you have a stable job and a stable income back at home, think twice before you embark on you parthway to Canada
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.
Thanks for watching.
Fair point. Thanks for watching.
Fair point. Thanks for watching.
Good thoughts. Keep positive. Sooooo true.
Bless up.
It's a scam in terms of taxes because the return on that investment doesn't add up for the working man. There are opportunities for sure, but anyone that think working 2-3 jobs to survive in a country has got no respect for their health.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
#kermitdrinkingteagif
I have a lot to say on this but I will sip my tea like Kermit before responding. Canada is not a scam, but the world is set in such a way that some will always have more and some will always have less. I will say no more. I am grateful for the opportunity I have. 🙂
Thanks for watching and sharing.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
Dem too ungreased. The government fi send dem back a dem yard kmt
lol 😂. Appreciate you always.
Your experiences and opinions are yours, likewise, those persons has theirs and it is theirs to know and have expressed. Who are you to discredit it and assume you know how they live or experiencing????
All I can say is thank you for watching.
Well said, not everyone experiences life in canada the same way, everyone has a different reality
Good video Demz…… But listen, even the small cites have become very competitive. Rent is almost the same as the big cities. My friend got here 1 1/2 years now and still no job. It’s very competitive.
It's tough out there, thanks for sharing your experience.
You just gained a subscriber here! This is the most accurate video I've seen recently, putting things into the right context about Canada. I haven’t seen anyone sharing these negative experiences after returning home! They’re still all in Canada 😆

Cost of living has risen across most developed countries and so did incomes. The difference is tht, incomes in Canada have remained stagnant

They are in Canada because they working to take care of their families, stuck in the rat race. They is no home and job to move back to.
Do like me a studio apartment and saving money 😂😂😂they want to live with the Jones what the hell i live in Toronto i don't want a car 😂😂the first thing they want when they get here they want a car 😂car is a liability car in Canada is not for poor people. 😂😂
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching and sharing.
Thanks for watching and sharing your perspective!
Too much curry punjabi
It's still much better than where many of you are coming from far better than Jamaica, the more sacrifices we need to start doing is to stay and build our own country
