Great video, I really like how you describe why you moved the cars to the position you did, how to the run around, etc., this helps us understand the steps to complete switching the job. Could you do a video on how the prototype would switch the ADM area, I like to understand how they decide which cars to move first and then do the put a ways, I’m just learning how to do switching, the details you show in this video were very helpful.

Fascinated by your paperwork and switching procedures, especially since I work so differently on my Penn Western modern (2024) shortline. Nassau Yard is a large classification yard, mostly double-ended, that receives two inbound trains each session, one from CSX and the other NS. One from the East and the other West (RR directions). Each is about 25 cars for industries served by the PW and cars are not blocked. Incoming train enters an A/D track and the locos are moved and parked at an engine facility. Yard switcher then sorts and classifies all cars to the destination track for their outbound movement to the industrial district of the receiver. Have enough time between trains to fully sort the first before the second shows up. Three industrial sites are within yard limits, two require mainline travel to their off-main district. Yard and line switchers then deliver and pick up. Main goal of sorting is to eliminate the need for "cherry-picking" cars buried in a string. Cars returned to the yard are sorted as East and West to build the outbounds to NS and CSX, When ready, their waiting engines couple up, test the air and then depart.
from your description sounds like you have a pretty nice setup... what are the differences between how your work is and how tims work is?

another nice realistic vid... your NS work order is WAY WAY more informative than ours was when i worked for the chicago and northwestern... the U.P. took over not long after i hired on and theres' was just as uninformative... on ours we used spot codes and pull times... there were DOZENS of two lettered spot codes but mostly we used actual placement (AP) and constructive placement (CP) ... also, do you have any customers that will get an intra-plant switch?... i have an intra-plant switch customer on my layout and sometimes it's taken me 45 minutes at just that one place... i had another one that took 30 minutes to switch... i dumped that second one as that was just too much for me... i'm a huge proponent of the in "N" out industries🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks! Yes, we have one on our route on the prototype that can easily take 1-1/2 hr to 2 hrs to switch. I will have something sorta like one with Southwire but it will be more or less cars being ordered in from a lease track to certain spots. Of course my ADM facility in Ragland is inter-plant moves but it has its own designated switcher to handle them. I just got through working it myself to get ready for an operating session next week and it took me an hour.
excellent work, scrr !! question... could you please explain how you added weight to the "new" csxt 250566 hopper ? on almost all of my hoppers the top is not removable, so i am assuming this one is not as well. nothin' like a nice "new" dirty hopper !!! thanks, scrr !!!
Thanks! Yep, sure. I used Pine Car weights you can get from Hobby Lobby that the Boy Scouts use for their wooden race cars. I mounted them to the underside of the car using Gorilla mounting putty. Works like a charm and unless you turn the car over, you’ll never see the weights up in between the slope sheets of the hopper bays.

I just made mine in a word document. I can post a photo of one that has all the information but it will also include some pull and placement information for the particular job. You can make your own by copying the same format in a document and then filling the work information in for your particular railroad and train route.

Great session sr qa is there away that you can computer generate those orders and I have a problem maybe you can solve I have multiple railroad winchester and western and Conrail, NS, CSX so how to generate what railroad work orders thank you 😊
Thanks! I’m sure someone could. I just make a template in a word document and change the car numbers when I need to. It normally doesn’t take me that long to create one before a session.

How did you create the switch list
In a word document. Once I made the template it is pretty easy to change the car numbers for the track inventory list and the industry work order.
How did u come up with the paint schemes for your railroad?
The red and gray scheme was from a photo I had in an old model railroading book. I just liked it back then and adopted it. The blue and white scheme is inspired by the FEC, which is one of my favorite railroads. I just liked how their units looked and when the SC took over operations of the Savannah State Docks which had a fleet of blue and white boxcars I had an excuse to change the colors.

How come you did not “kick” the CSXT car? 😅
Against the rules to kick into an open track
Umm, you had loaded gondola car with rails on track GY06, I think it was that track that you had flat switched out. I know about the rule for not kicking cars into a clear track. (Just busting your chops.) In RL, I 100% flat switch, making the train line and etc as I am making up the local trains and other transfer trains to other yards.
Your model railroad paperwork is 1000% like in real life. Question, do you have paper work that copies dispatcher bulletins also?
Yes I made a video where I simulated dispatcher bulletins. You can check out my Realistic Ops series where I show a lot of prototype examples and how I am integrating some for the SC. And as info those gons with the track panels are in track 9. Track 6 was open. :)
