  • @Arbiter1223
    @Arbiter1223 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Amazing! I never thought to use a hot glue gun as the extruder.
    I was a bit confused at first, but after looking through the comments I think I understand the hot glue gun setup (please correct me if I am wrong). It looks like the specific hot glue gun used has changeable nozzles, and that is where the drilled threaded nozzle comes into play (I was thinking it was welded on at first). I wonder if this extrusion setup could be modified further to output more solid filament that is also closer to 1.75mm diameter (from what I see the resulting filament here is "hollow" as it doesn't fully melt the PET and doesn't quite come to the 1.75mm diameter mark).
    Very impressive setup! I'll definitely be referencing this if/when I try making one myself. :D

    • @lets_make
      @lets_make  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thank you very much😃, yes the nozzle is variable, I made it with a 1.5mm drill, you can try if you find 1.55, 1.60 but not more because the filament expands when it comes out of the nozzle

    • @Arbiter1223
      @Arbiter1223 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Let's make Right, I'll keep that in mind; the interchangeable nozzle design should allow easy experimentation with nozzle sizes.
      Also, one more question: what is the width of the strips you cut out from the bottles? I imagine different widths may yield different results both for filament diameter and the "dead space" in the middle of the folded ends.

    • @lets_make
      @lets_make  ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @Enjoymentboy

      @@lets_make Instead on a single piece being pulled I wonder if pulling on multiple smaller pieces at the same time would work. So instead of one 10mm wide piece of tape what about three 3mm pieces pulled through at once? If one is shorter than the other 2 you MIGHT be able to add a new one in if they are twisted together (like rope) just before they are pulled into the heater causing all 3 to be fused together into 1 filament. This way you could, in theory, keep feeding shorter pieces in and having a single, long piece coming out. This is something I have been thinking about for a while now and I'm slowly getting all the pieces together. My goal is slightly different in that I want to do it ALL with stuff I already have laying around and not have to buy a single item to do this, The one part holding me back is the puller motor. I know I have an old 12V cordless drill around somewhere that has a very high torque/low speed setting that should work perfectly but I just cannot remember where I put it. Once I find it I should be good to go and will start testing my plan out.
