It’s no secret that the BMW R 1250 GS was widely regarded as the king of the ADV segment, the benchmark so to speak. But over the years, the competition has begun to catch up and quite successfully. This meant BMW Motorrad needed to get radical and lift and place the goalpost much further down the road. Enter the BMW R 1300 GS, the latest generation Gelande Strasse. It gets a new higher performing engine, an all-new chassis setup, updated electronics and a whole lot more. With this, BMW claims that the new R 1300 GS will also be the best. Is that the case and should the competition be worried? Karan Ramgopal tells you in this first ride review.

Higher compression means it needs higher octane fuel which is not easily available everywhere, which can result in engine knocking issues and reliability problems. Unless the knock sensors are installed to modify the ignition timing.
Hopefully BMW must have think it through.
