As an Evil Owner's rep I will push back on one thing, and that is TAKT. I know that it is really what you push from your firm, and that is great I actually own all your books, but I am working with Large GC's who still do not understand or that have not adapted TAKT in their scheduling. We included in the last RFP for our current project a lot of LEAN tools. They all signed up for it in the RFP process but now we are learning how little they actually utilize and we are pulling the GC with us as we move along. Luckily I have almost a year before construction starts so we can train them in the processes that we want utilized on the Project. With TAKT though they are completely unfamiliar and have one team that has run a project in CA utilizing TAKT and it was a much smaller project. So we are using last planner for our scheduling and hope to get them to start utilizing TAKT prior to construction.

And I don’t think Owner’s reps are evil. We love you!

Last reply here. Your contractor doesn’t j is CPM or Last Planner either. This is not a Takt problem. This is an organizational competence problem.

Hey Jason, Ill be going to college soon, majoring in CM. Ive done research and looked into becoming a OR but still have some questions. As far as becoming an owners rep, do you transfer from the GC side of things to an owners rep? Or can you get directly into it out of college? Is it all about connections? Is there a certain amount of experience required? I assume to be comepletely fluent in the criteria, you would need to be an experienced pm or even spm before making the switch? Apologies if these questions are ignorant!
