Price hikes Why the Government announced a slew of price hikes, including a drastic 30% increase in water fees, only after the 2015 general elections and at a time of economic uncertainty for the people.
@@jer2911.L So anyone that supports the opposition are foreign agents? So you want Singapore to become a communist country with no elections like China and Vietnam?
Yup, also called education about how to remedy the destructive impacts of markets. But it seems you want no thought given, no control exercised, and everything is cheap.
Great discussion and great panel on challenges of water - regulations, policies, innovations, entrepreneurships, research and more. I wish the anchor was little less dramatic with her body language while talking!
Meanwhile, here in Wellington we are facing even more stringent water restrictions to come because of how wasteful (mainly leaks) the water infrastructure is.
I like how President Tharman uses these forums to champion for solutions instead of participating in the search for answers. i.e. there is the solution (specifically this solution), we have to work on it (invest in this solution).
In not supporting Tharman to be his successor as Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong made the greatest mistake of his tenure. Singapore's future is at greater risk because of this mistake.
This was incredibly awkward to watch. Trying to articulate how to manage water ‘economically’ reveals just how incompatible it is to combine markets with nature. Perhaps the mistake is to suggest economists have the skills to ‘solve’ water imbalances. Or that they are doing more than acting as guardians of capital in the face of capitaism’s failurel

@@BeachBoi1000 Your all know free in general is bad right (free electricity, free education)? But the opposite isn't actually market rate water and electricity etc. it's heavily subsidised essentials, the debate among locals in Singapore these days is regarding subsidies, Hawker food, GST, Bus fare hike, route cancellation etc. very tangible stuff that affects the economy because it is debated by working-class people, not extremist or idealogues, and, their feedback have been taken into consideration, sometimes cringe, sometimes u-turn, sometime ignore. Out of the 5 people on the stage, 3 are ethnically Indians. It tells a lot about the growing power and influence of Indians in the modern world.

Singapore relatively doing well in collecting the rain water in our water catchment areas and directing to our 17 reservoirs in Singapore. 🇸🇬
Psychological conditioning for central control and price hikes.

Monetise and weaponise a resource that’ s critcial to life! State DOES NOT OWN rainfall. God does!!
