  • Great Movie Of Toby Mac's DC Talk 1996
Welcome to the Freak Show is the name of a live audio and video recording by DC Talk. Chronicling the Jesus Freak Tour in the spring of 1996, they were released separately two months apart in 1997 on CD and VHS, respectively. A DVD version was later released in 2003. Each version has been certified gold by the RIAA (audio for 500,000 units and video for 50,000 units sold). Track listings differ slightly between the two. Select videos included a bonus audio disc that remains one of the rarest recordings in the DC Talk catalog. The audio version won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album.

I grew up with Toby in Vienna, VA. His brother, Mark, was my best friend. He - meaning Toby - was 4 or 5 years younger than me.
A great guy from the onset.
He was/is truly blessed by his faith and is absolutely deserving of everything he is and what has been bestowed upon him by the Grace of God.

DC Talk had an incredible band backing them. These guys crossed over to several genres and we're liked by an array of people and an array of cultures. They were incredible!!!

Mark Townsend was the perfect addition to DCT's Freak Show Band. He not only got Jason Halbert, Rick May, and Otto Price to form Zilch and release an album of their own. But, he also was responsible for pitching Relient K to TobyMac, which led them to getting signed with GoTee Records in 2000.
Rick May was DC Talk's live drummer in 1997, when Will Denton joined Stephen Curtis Chapman's live band for his "Signs of Life Tour," which I attended. Brent Barcus was also in the same touring band that year, and would later appear as the lead guitarist in Michael W. Smith's music video for "Live the Life" in 1998.

      @@ThatdjejCouple of corrections:
      1. DC Talk took the backup dancers out of their show after Free at Last. Which was a good thing so Grits could expand their status as a separate rap group.
      2. DJ Maj was actually the DJ for DC Talk's Supernatural Experience Tour, not DJ Form.

In the summer of 1989 on June 14th, my brother had a birthday party at our house with a swimming pool. One of the boys, who was bullied severely in public school and transfered to a Christian school got my brother a birthday gift that had just been released at the 1000 Oaks Christian book store the day before. My brother opened it and it was a cassette tape of DC Talk.
"Who are these guys?" It was rap music. I loved Final Days and my brothers favors sing was "Round, round, rock around round." Then when Nu Thang came out, that would be my all time favorite Christian album to this day. I love how you can hear the voice of Martin Luther King Jr and the rap stories.
Before DC Talk we just listened to my mom's music of Handel's Messiah and Lamb Favorites. DC Talk was my favorite band up there with Prayer Chain, Audio Adrenaline, Newsboys, Poor Old Lu and Johnny Q Publics "Bald Woman" song were all legendary. I miss DC Talk. The Christian concerts were always my highlight and they were always so cheap and budget priced.

I lived golden years with my best friends listening to DC Talk. They were the best years of our lives. We were teenagers, didn't speak English, but that didn't prevent us from feeling the anointing of God through this band. I've never been to one of their concerts, but whenever I remember that time, I recall how important it was to have that influence. Thank you, God, for letting me experience that time. Thank you, DC Talk.

Epic! I am grateful to God for the existence of this band (while it was there). Whoever watched it live, watched it! For those who weren't there, this is a record of the coolest show that Christians saw. Organic!

I think I cried for half the show feeling like I was missing my calling. My Sister Lisa Took Me To This Show. I'll be forever grateful to her. She knew how hard it would be for me but all the incredible talent at the festival was just to much to pass on. I've been to over 180 Concerts and to this day it's the only .music Festival I've Ever Attended. We attended the Tualatin, Or Creation Fest in 1991

Come on guys, I listened to DC talk with my daughters back in the 90's, we saw them in Wa. DC. It was a connection point between me and them. Me being a new Christian and trying to keep them from listening to more worldly music. I was feeling nostalgic tonight, listening to old school "Christian" music. ❤ PEACE

I started listening to TodyMac’s music and the Newboy’s music. Then I started listening to Jesus Freak by DC Talk. Such a good song! My mother went to their shows growing up in the 90s. TobyMac was my first concert I went to in 2012. DC Talk is a cool band!

Epic! Ahead of its time then. More than still relevant today. I wish I had heard of these guys back then, it might have changed thew trajectory of my life. While I enjoy and respect Keith Green today, back then it just didn't cut it for me. Maybe it is time for DC Talk 2...younger, energetic bunch of guys coached and mentored by Toby, Michaell and Brian...to take the world by storm. Lord knows the message is much needed. Music "can take people where mere words cannot. Music is what brings people together and can bridge the language barrier."

And I thought they were legit
