    The wife and I have a lab and a golden retriever. We drive an outback when we head out camping and have been looking to get off the ground. I’ve seen people use RoofNest’s Sparrow, but do you think the Eagle would fit on a 2018 Outback?

    Great review! I also live in a climate that changes its mind every 5 minutes (Montana) and because of that it requires a lot of diversity in camping, like you mentioned on the toofnest... It would be a very very nice if they added a clear window on all openings, this would be beautiful to watch a storm roll in or snow falling as you were inside your nest! Cheers!

      I love Montana! So pretty up there. Glad we are on the same page with the window. We are going to be reviewing the new Roofnest Sparrow Xl next week. Stoked to see what upgrades they have in store for that! Take care! - Sean

    Great overview. Like the camera. So have you used it yet in a rain storm with wind and sideways rain? Do you stay dry inside? Thanks.

      Thanks! Stoked you dig the 360 camera. They are a lot of fun! Yes, camped in several crazy rain and snow storms. I just close up the doors and windows if the rain is coming in that direction. It has worked surprisingly well! - Sean Sewell

    Thank you. Nice video. Are you using the OEM roof rack on your 4Runner for RoofNest Eagle ?. Would it work with Prinsu roofrack on my 4Runner?.

      Thank you! We used aftermarket racks in this video (Rocky Mounts) and are currently using Yakima HD bars. So, we have not used the stock rack. And I don’t believe they recommend them. Hope that helps! -Sean

    Quick question: in the snowy weather, did interior stay dry after you closed the side flaps? Also, when you pack it down during / after rain, does internal bedding stay dry? Wondering about packability during wet weather when going from place to place.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! Yes, inside stayed dry in snow and rain. I do keep a pack towel with me and wipe the rain off the canopy before packing. It seems to help.

    stock OEM rails are okay but not the crossbar rails? I am looking into buying a roofnest and just worried about if i can put it on the stock OEM rails and crossbar rails. What are your thoughts/opinions? and i also own a 5th gen 4runner

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hay Morgan! Thanks for the question. I have only ever used the Roofnest with aftermarket crossbars (several different brands) with good success. I would refer you to Roofnest for a more detailed answer to be safe. I dont want to recommend something and have it backfire on you! I can attest to these being GREAT on a 4Runner though. I hope you get one and enjoy the heck out of it! - Sean Sewell

    How much snow do you think this can handle in top? Wanting to take up skiing for overnights but don’t know if I would need to collapse during day. And don’t want it to close while sleeping if snow falling. Have you used their aftermarket insulation package I do you even think it’s needed? Last what’s the longest you have had this exposed to constant rain or snow and did it ever get wet inside?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions! This model was able to handle about 5” of wet snow before collapsing. The new version (which we reviewed and still own) has never collapsed. Thanks to the beefier struts. Have not tested the insulation kit yet. Coldest I have camped is -10f. Hope that helps!

      I have had it open for 3 days at a time. If I have the doors and windows open all the time, then yes, it does get water in during major rain storms. So, I close the doors and windows up when we are not in it and it stays dry. Hope these answers help!

    Did you use a small space heater in the extreme weather?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just add sleeping bags. The coldest I have had it down to was 5 degrees. I have not used a space heater in this yet. I wonder if that would be a good idea. I am working with Roofnest on another project and can ask them if people have used them. Stay tuned! - Sean Sewell

    Do you find that closing it solo is difficult? I see people with jeeps walking all over their vehicles but you obviously can't do that with a 4 runner.

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not find it that hard. I usually just do the back first then the front. I sometimes stand on the rear bumper if I need to. Then I open the front door (either driver or passenger) and pull it closed. The only hard part is getting the nylon lashes through the buckles when they are covered in snow and my hands are freezing cold LOL

    Your dogs look to be of decent size - how do you get them up there?

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pup and his Truck Great question. These two are 60lb poochs. I grab them under their bellies and carry them up the ladder. It is kind if scary for them at first. But now they are used to it. Getting them out can be a little more time consuming. But that is the process. And it works every time 😎👌. Hope that helps! Our dogs love sleeping in the Roofnest 🙌

      Engearment my pup is 85 or so but I have a climbing harness for him! Have been thinking about carrying him up and down. Or building a sleeping setup for him in the cab.

    • @Engearment

      I bet you could carry him up. But I would love to hear if you rig the pup up and create a system!

    • @Engearment
      @Engearment  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every time! It was a bit confusing on getting them up there. But we have a good system now. Basically, I grab them at the legs meeting their body, give them a hug and go up the ladder. Works!
