    I used to be a huge fan of a relationship ministry until I realized it was more about grooming you to be a wife vs grooming you to be closer to Christ. It’s absolutely predatory & aiming to appeal to what you’re insecure about or lack. Spot on.

      But, they turn around and tell single women that they haven't found a husband b/c of this or that issue in the woman's life. " "Y'all need to lose weight, get your finances together, be more feminine, grow your hair long, be super deep with the Lord, you got too many kids..."

    • @876me7
      @876me7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The conversation would be mostly about her no matter what because we live in a patriarchal society that loves to be entertained and amused at the expense of black women, meanwhile turning a blind eye to the wrongdoing of black men. Had she been all dolled up everyone would have been criticizing her for being dressed up just to hear her man talk about cheating on her. I’m not sure what ppl expected her to look like. Her and Derrick were both dressed casual in the video, so why is everyone being critical of how she looks as if that matters? It’s very sad that our society would rather have a laugh at a black women who is obviously on the edge and in distress rather than be concerned for and sympathetic to her. At this point the jokes about her looks aren’t funny. She should be given grace because based on her IG posts, she is clearly a deeply depressed person and possibly suffering from other mental health issues.

My mother (may God bless her and keep her) has been with my father since she was 12 years old then married him at 16, that was 46 years ago! She constantly gives me advice that would make me the perfect prey to an absolute monster(Like Chris is to Paige MAFS). If I could like this video 1000 times I would. Women are often taught and encouraged to date and love a man around his pathology, while being told she needs to be a laundry list of things to make him happy. This is why most divorces are initiated by women, that kind of life isn't sustainable for two human beings trying to love each other and get through life as best they can. In terms of men giving women dating and love advice, I think this is because many women have internalized the belief that men know better, and that finding the right mate is about needing to understand men. So, who better to help with this than a man? I don't agree with this, but this is how many women think. I was a Dating + Love Coach for 10 years, well before many of these social media gurus popped up, and it always surprised me how many women flocked to the advice men were giving. I always thought men should be talking to other men about dating and relationships, but they don't talk to single men because they aren't listening. All of this is exacerbated by the fact that there are so many black women who are single and don't want to be. And people take advantage of this deeply painful, complicated struggle.

    • @heytheresunshine9405
      @heytheresunshine9405 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ma'am you are spot on with this. I would like to add that listening to men give advice also comes from men giving advice from the pulpit. Many black women have been raised in faith traditions where men are the spiritual leaders. As a result it becomes a habit to listen to men especially when there is a 'faith based' component. Although I understand about hearing a male perspective I don't agree with listening to these 'male gurus' only. I'm glad to hear you are an OG in this. I hope you continue to coach because women need to hear from women whether they know it or not.

This topic has been a challenge for me for years and frustrates me. I believe that these conversations and presentations are predatory. Women are expected to turn themselves inside out, identify all the red flags, be a sex kitten and have the highest moral standards. If she doesn't fit the standards she is judged and treated poorly. While men are expected to just be themselves without judgement.

I would also like for married people who were not abstinent when they were dating their future spouse to stop trying to convince single people that they should still uphold "purity" in dating even though the married couple themselves didn't. My mom and dad divorced at 35 years of marriage. Ten years after the divorce, my mom stated that she realizes now that "we married women did not know what we were talking about." My mom now realizes that that dating and single life has its own challenges, too.
      About 5 years ago, at age 35, I started to get irritated about the advice being given by women who had been married since they were 18 to 25. That time period is easy to wait and hope for a husband. But as the years passed and I hit 35, that's when one starts thinking "maybe marriage is not going to happen for me."
