      Stores like Walmart and McDonalds are more upscale in Latin America. They cater to rich people. In America it's the opposite. That's the real reason for the difference. • @briangasser973
      @briangasser973 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      People who shop Walmart in the US want its 'everyday low prices.' If people wanted to pay the overhead for more staff and a more organized store in the US, they would shop at Target.
      With lower wages in CR, Walmart can afford more staff. With NYs $15 minimum wage, harder to keep prices low with added staff.
      While the CR Walmart looks great, I think there is more to the story than just CR people that take pride in their work.
      US Walmarts look more crowded and are pushed to keep staffing expenses low.

    • @jamesleathers5488
      @jamesleathers5488 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@briangasser973 Walmart keeps it's staffing extremely low because the greedy Walton family refuses to increase staffing. They couldn't spend what they already have in several lifetimes. They have an estimated $190 Billion so from my personal experience in their system I say F them. They could take a little less profit and still be more than competitive leaving prices as is. Greed drives them period. IMO

    We lived in San Jose for a year back in 2012 and learned very quickly that there were cheaper options for shopping than Walmart (which we found to be one of the most expensive). The Walmart was very nice, though, well-organized, and featured many hard-to-find US products unavailable in some other stores (aside from Auto Mercado or sometimes Mas x Menos). One of our favorite things was the little food court located inside the Walmart. As we didn't have a car and relied on public transportation, it was nice to be able to eat out and do our shopping in one location. Thanks for this stroll down memory lane. We absolutely loved our time in Costa Rica! :-)

    Hey man great video, I love how every corner you turn there is a worker. Lol'd when I saw the manager standing around on her phone. For the most part, I enjoy shopping in CR, unless it's at a clothing store - then I feel like I'm literally being followed around the entire store...a tica friend told me they're trying to provide good customer service, but for me, it was kinda invading my space to make a decision. Also, salespeople standing in the doorway of a store is, for some reason intimidating for me to enter! I absolutely love different cultures and the quirks that go along with living and adapting to them!

    The reason Walmart (and other supermarkets from the same company) in Costa Rica are so organized is because there are third party companies hired by brands to keep their product shelves organized, clean and with enough products (you'll see them working during the day). I believe Walmart in Costa Rice aims more to attract middle class families, so it's not as nice as most Automercados, but is not as bad as Pali LOL.

    • @GioandJC
      @GioandJC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's good feedback. In a future video we will cover the check-out process. We always pay in Colones (the Costa Rican Currency) and we bring our own re-usable bags. Costa Rica is banning the use of single use plastics by 2021, so many stores have already eliminated them.

      If you want to visit us, change your cash to Colones, with the nearest bank you can find, that's the very first thing you have to do. Because, as we already know there re people around the world looking how they could scam tourist people, and unfortunately CR its not the exception, anyway, if you can't change your money, or you need to pay something really quick, don't worry, most of the stores here can accept you dollars, but again, most of them they don't receive $100 bill and in some cases $50 bill

    I bet the customers are more respectful of the workers and put things back where they got them from when they decide not to buy them more so than in the USA!
    That Walmart reminds reminds me of a Texas HEB except for the appliances!

    Hello, great video! That Walmart is located in La Lima, Cartago, and i's true it is so organized, they do a good job. But, i like more the Walmart that is located in Paraíso, Cartago, is bigger, and the floor is white, i don't know is kind of different, but at the end is the same result haha, hope you are doing great. Greetings!

    This is the TIDIEST Walmart I've ever seen! in US Walmarts it's usually pandemonium. What part/city in Costa Rica are you? I'm moving to the Puerto Viejo (in Limon) in May (I know - it's the beginning of the rainy season :-) - and I understand there are a lot less people, expats, and mod cons there. But I'm volunteering for 2 months at the Jaguar Rescue Center there! wooohooo! Edit: PS I really like your channel!

    I had a good chuckle when you commented on driving a stick shift. I remember the day you learned like it was yesterday. LOL! I can imagine that folks from Costa Rica that visit State Side Walmart's are quite taken aback by the typical shopper profile. Always fun watching your videos.

    I work at a wal mart in east Tennessee. This store does look great. I like how they have the right items bulk stacked like the things people need and buy not just junk that was sent in. I think the U S stores would be better if they went back to the basics and treated their associates with dignity and go back to good customer service. The clean appearance is due to the workers taking pride in their work but also shoppers not tearing the store up. I have seen customers tear open packages of socks to look at the size then throw the opened one down and get an unopened package.
