A bit of older collector knowledge for the younger collectors not old enough to collect in the early 1980s...The blue wrapper 1981 Donruss were sold in fun bags at discount five-and-dime type stores for several years and a mix of years within a pack is possible. That is why there was a 1982 Donruss Babe Ruth puzzle card in the pack opened here.
I remember the "Fun Bags" but have not heard about the possibility for mixed years within a pack. Were they 3rd party repacks?
That's interesting. I totally missed there being no gum in that pack and puzzle piece
until you mentioned it!

You went right over the 1979 Topps Bump Wills Blue Jays card. Back in the day that was the 2nd most expensive card in the set after only the Bump Wills Rangers card.
Eddie Harris, manager Lou Brown, Willie Mays Hayes, and of course Bob Uecker are the best characters in Major League. I used to watch that movie with my grandma all the time. She was the biggest baseball fan I've ever known. She loved the two Asian groundskeepers

My memories were from 1987, saving up $15, and buying a whole box of ‘87 Topps packs!! I’d try and save them. Open 4-5 packs and I’d last about an hour and then there’d be a stack of cards, bedroom floor covered in wax wrappers, and a sore jaw from all the gum and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Cards were better. Compile a set, trade w friends. Didn’t have to spend $100 for a few packs. Our idea of an auto was taking a stack to Three Rivers and getting them signed, interacting w your hero’s. It was simpler and more face to face

At 12:31 you get the Bump Wills error. That card was a big deal in my house. I think the corrected version is more rare.

That "bubble" on the Carlton Fisk card @ 7:21 is called an "ink hickey". A small piece of dried ink on the plate or blanket producing a bad image

I'm amazed how many '81 Donruss National League card photos came from Wrigley Field.
Shoulda coulda woulda story: If I'd have known what kind of career he was gonna put together, I'd have kept the Eddie Murray duplicates I had in 1978. That was the last year I put together complete sets by buying individual packs. I had 5 of the damn things. At one point he, Mike Lum, Stan Bahnsen and Woodie Fryman were real nuisances to me because it seemed like I got one of them in every pack. After a while I didn't see any more Murray rookies, but the other three continued to bedevil me, and the Murray was replaced by Bill Fahey, Brent Strom and Randy Elliott cards. Wish I'd kept those Murrays.

I love the videos but think you should worry about the family. If your selling your complete collection. Dedicate this time to your kids bro. Cardboard and Crads mean nothing!

'82 Topps is awesome! I love the clean, stripey design with different colors and bold lettering for the player names, that was one of the best 80's designs IMO.

Wish there was some 83 topps packs. That's the 1st packs I bought & it would have been really nostalgic to see some of those opened

Ever since I was younger and bought 84 topps packs and see Luis Salazar it was a sign that Mattingly was coming a few cards down. He's usually after Broderick Perkins BUT Jim Gantner "mysteriously" showed up in between of Perkins and Ripken. Should have been Donnie....
I have tried to use Ripken as an indicator for Mattingly but it has not worked out so far in the few racks and cellos i tried.
@@JordanRCcom Not if you see him on front. But if you see his card on back perhaps bc he's after Mattingly...

Merry Christmas! Sorry you have a lot going on. Opening cards from this era is fun, I like to see the photography on them. It's neat to see the progression of photography and seeing the state of the art camera's of the 1980's, lol.

Looks like the counterfeit cards from overseas. The size of the hologram stickers in the upper deck pack was undersized
12:20 You forgot to mention the famous 1979 Topps Bump Wills error.
You can try a few different ways to get old gum off of cards. The one that worked best for me was putting the card in the freezer for a few hours, then slowly pulling it off. Not 100% success rate, but it can work! Love the videos!
The guy who did the show business with the ball when he pitched was Al Hrabrosky, you have his card in 1978 topps

8:16 When you pulled the Tug McGraw card, you forgot to mention the fact that his son is country singer Tim McGraw. You must ALWAYS mention this when opening 1980s packs and pull a Tug McGraw. This video feels incomplete without this.

Good to hear you. on the back of the Donruss they put a picture of the exact piece of bubblegum I got from my barber after a haircut but there was no bubble gum in the packs I think you told me once tops had the rights to that. I always trust in your accuracy. Shawn in Kansas

Ted Simmons is most deserving, even though he just compiled his numbers and wasn't really great, like Baines and many others, but he did have lots of good years. At the end of the Dave Parker documentary on MLB Network it said 2 players were voted in by the Modern Day Committee...... I'm hoping the other one was Lou Whitaker.

You have a classic error card at 12:19 ... a Bump Wills Blue Jays card. Not rare, essentially a well known error card, one often used as an example to young collectors who might be interested in them.

Did they remove your I am getting a divorce video? Because I can sympathize. Something like that happened to me. And my Ex-wife took the kids and within 2 months I was ordered by my commander to sign the form to let her take my 2 daughters overseas. Everytime I went to my house I would feel the kids and almost hear them. Couldn't stop crying when I tried to return it to the air force. Stay tough brother. Having a good lawyer is great and you don't have to worry about being ordered, like militaryguys and gals. Love watching your videos. Everything works out in the end. No matter what.
