Oracle: This is a time of change and growth. You're learning so much. Listen to your heart. Hold life's hand and life will hold yours. Tarot: *You in danger, girl.*
I love how you not just compare the two but give a detailed explanation of the nature of both tarot and oracle decks! Your video is an amazing introduction into both cards. Personally I have found that Tarot works better for me, once i understood the story that the entire Tarot deck tells it was easier and more intuitive to work with it. I also have found that for me listening to my intuition while reading cards is really beneficial because a card can tell a whole story on its own, never had that with oracle cards.
I love tarot for a detailed answer, but I have a few oracle's for specific purposes, such as encouragement, faerie contact, or Dream Work. They can be useful. PS- The Arthur Rackham Oracle is almost 50/50 positive and negative, and it's beautiful.
Like love and share this witches videos everyone. She is full of so much knowledge. There’s so much to learn from her. Plus, you can trust she’s gonna be straight up honest .
To get around an oracle deck that has "no negative cards" just use the inverted system from tarot. Then if a card is upside down it takes on the opposite meaning of its original intention. However depending on what your asking, a word you consider "positive" can sometimes be a negative thing depending on your stance for the situation. For example: imagine you want to cut ties with someone and draw an oracle card that says "Connection" or something on those lines. This could be your cards telling you a codependency is forming, or that that other person will not let you go so easily. Just a few extra tips.
Im not sure with Oracle, but with my experience every deck of tarot cards has its own personality. You could have three Smith decks but one can be blunt, one can be sarcastic, and the other could be a mixture of the two or neither
I’m just starting my journey and I love your page. I’m doing as much research as possible as I know that witchcraft is not something to be messed with, I do take it all very seriously. I look forward to learning more and more from your videos xx
Not to sound like a suck up but she is one of the best for information out there. I would also suggest if you're looking for more information you check out the witch of Wanderlust. I followed them both
I have had a Tarot deck for over 15 years and only started learning it this year. It was a bit overwhelming with so many cards. I had a oracle deck that was gifted to me and I mostly used that for myself which has given me pretty damn accurate advice. I combined it with tarot the last time I did a reading, and got a really fascinating reading. Everything matched up. I have seen other people match cards from various decks too. Not that beginners should do that.
Omg the new intro is so good, it has that magickal essence of mystic nature and somehow makes me think of celtic while listening to the music at the same time :)
How serendipitous, I was just looking into buying an Oracle deck that I totally fell in love with the art style of but didn't actually know anything about Oracle decks.
The Rider Waite system is actually based on the old European playing cards, which were used for divination before, but that deck was the first to be made specifically for divination purposes, expressing the agreed upon meaning within the artwork
For a neophyte (like myself myself) embarking on the journey of divination, this was an excellent breakdown. I was trying to link within my mind similarities between the Ship of Fools Tarot and Camelot Oracle decks that I was drawn to and purchased, and was instantly confused. This has really helped me to completely separate the two in my mind and see them as very different types of toolsets. Thanks so much
You seriously have helped me in so many areas! I was so intimidated by tarot/oracle. You broke it down in such a way that I understand everything so much clearer. Not just this subject but ALL of your videos. When I was searching for answers and was very much in the broom closet (strict Roman Catholic family) you helped encourage me in trusting myself. When I feel a little down I just put on one of your videos and it gives me a little lift. Thank you for all you do. It really makes a difference.🥰
Im not sure with Oracle, but with my experience every deck of tarot cards has its own personality. You could have three Smith decks but one can be blunt, one can be sarcastic, and the other could be a mixture of the two or neither
Love my cards!! I have a couple of oracle decks and a tarot deck, and with that one I do find that each card can have multiple meanings depending on the context, but you are right that the general structure of all tarot decks tends to be pretty consistent. Good stuff! Reminded me of how long it’s been since I played with my own cards ^_^
I use Lenormand oracle for more then a decade now, it has all variation of cards and I think they are easier to handle then Tarot, once you learn how to read cards combinations. Recently I've found a deck that has all Lenormand cards doubled, Lilac & Cherry Twilight, every double of cards having slightly different meaning. Now it's my favorite deck, it's so convenient.
Book that helped me learn in process:#1 Tarot Life-Paul Quinn and #2 Reading & understanding the mysteries of TAROT (hardcover/big print)-Staci Mendoza+David Bourne.
Thank. I couldn't figure out the point of Oracle cards at at all and this definitely cleared that up. Still probably won't get a deck, but now I get why so many people do.
Thanks so much for covering this topic. You helped me realize that I need to look into finding a Tarot deck to go along with my Oracle deck for personal practice. Again thanks for the time and consideration you give to every topic you cover.
thank you for an in-depth video for this subject Hearth it has been something that always kinda confused me and this was a big help :) (I was actually the one who asked about it on your live lol)
The first time I ever used Oracle cards or divination cards at all was when someone I knew told me about them and did a reading for me. They them showed me how to use them then I did a scarily accurate reading for my mum on my first try. She was having a hard time and she actually cried after the reading. I really vibes with those cards. I am interested in witch craft but being a student and living at home makes it hard to really start practicing but I have some natural skill at divination. Every once in a while I get this significant feeling that something specific is going to happen surrounding or to someone. The someone is always harder to distinguish as it only brings up my emotions surrounding that person. It has happened four or five times and it has always been right. Plus on top of that I have the random dreams in my sleep where some mundane image or motion happens in my head and then I see it exactly in the next couple days. I know it is not de ja vu because while I often forget about it and can sometimes see something that reminds me of the exact moment that hasn't happened yet before it happens. It's weird. I've had it for a while.
Thank you for this explanation. I currently have a plant based oracle deck that I use for emotional self care and meditation. Because each links to a plant and it's magical use, I can focus on where that purpose would benefit the most in that moment. Often it highlights an area of growth or unresolved tension that I can focus on releasing or healing. I'm now interested in learning more about tarot and maybe adding that to my practice.
@@denisek7 it's the deck from The Illustrated Herbiary: Guidance and Rituals from 36 Bewitching Botanicals. It's nice because they also connect with the book which can help guide your practice with the herb.
After being an avid fan of tarot for years, I finally got my first oracle deck today. The Starseed Oracle! Rewatching your video for some extra know-how.
Excellent!!!!! This will be my “Go To” video when I get asked what’s the difference. Your explanation is spot on and perfect for even a Beginner to grasp.
The main difference between tarot and oracle in a practical sense is the kinds of questions and answers you can get out of them. With tarot you can ask deep or complex questions because it was created to have all the points in someone’s life. This makes it so really broad questions don’t work so well with tarot. With oracle cards though, most are feeling or trait focussed, so you can only get that shallower answer from it and as you said Hearth, there aren’t as many possibilities. So if someone is deciding on which to start on, the main thing to figure it is which kind of question and answer you’re most interested in delving into. Are you someone who wants to know a specific question about an upcoming event in your life? Tarot. Or are you someone who wants to know how the event will go, generally? Oracle.
Thank You so much for such a nice explanation. I just got a new deck of tarot cards yesterday but I was curious about Oracle cards. Now I'm clear that I got the right one for me for now. Thank You 😊
I'm new here. I've been different my whole life. I am going to buy my 1st set of tarot cards and also wanting to get some oracle cards. I'm brand new to this. I'm going to books a million in a bit. I'm so grateful I found this channel.
I have enjoyed so much this video it was really clearely explained. I personally think also that Tarot cards are the best and I have the Rider Waite deck too. I would like to add just one more thing, I know it could sound childish but, it comes straight from my heart, you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen and I love the sound of your voice. You are a terrific human being!
Blessed be Lady Hearth. Love and light to thee. I like the tarot, I used to have an Aquarian deck. My favorite is runes, which I still use, got a set (or an ait) of amethyst runes that I almost always use. I dunno if that's relevant, but it's what I use. Thanks to Thorsson's Futhark book of runes. Anyway, blessed be. May Cerridwen smile upon you always friend. 😉✌️
I backed an awesome looking oracle deck on kickstarter. I am mostly a tarot reader, but this one came across my feed and it resonated so much. It is quite a few decks in a system that can be combined or separated, but it goes full spectrum. It is wordy more so than imaginary, being a word and then a coordinating colored background. It is the Spread Machine System Deck which ended a couple weeks ago.
I recently subbed. I have always been drawn into spiritual yet not religious.. flora and fauna, mystical and wondrous designs of the world. I love how you share your knowledge so freely, easy and understandable. I am a Green in my heart and soul..Recently I've wanted to learn about Tarot and such.. Hey sweet. I accidentally got in to your channel as i was trying to remember the difference between tarot and oracle cards (You know, the head of an old witch, learn the new things in exchange to forgetting some old rusty ones. I guess my head just can't keep all that knowledge inside the conscious mind all the time :D). Anyways, I haven't seen any of your other videos, but I am really happy and (in a nice way)surprised with this one. It's explained very detailed and clear, which is what I like. The other things is that I LOVE your look. You stand out of all the other young and new-age witches with your naturally beautiful look. I really appreciate that and it straight away brings me more trust in you and quality of your knowledge for the future (when I'll forget some basic knowledge again). Keep going like this and we might meet somewhere again Ruta B.W
hey!! I got oracle cards as a gift and they are "the wisdom of avalon oracle cards". The guidebook says that it will bring the goodness to you or something like that. it also says that you have to say a prayer to bless the cards. "Dear goddess, I invoke your power of love and discernment as I use these cards to guide me along the path to avalon and my soul, and for the manifestation of my true purpose for the greatest good. show me only what is best and true for myself and for others. let only light shine. blessed be." I'm unsure about saying any prayer, but I don't want to be disrespectful. I am beginner so I don't want to deal with something divine hahah
Learned basics of basic R/W deck / system tarot years ago, however just learning about oracle types, and would have loved to seen this video and learned from you/her in this format years ago. Wonderfully informative and well done video. Thanks 😊
my rider Waite smith tarot cards actually have the meanings written under the image on the card, which has actually been really helpfuI as it was my first deck. I got them from the works for any uk people looking for a decent beginner deck. its called 'The secrets of tarot'. I've also seen it amazon too. the images on the cards aren't the prettiest or anything but its a very helpful deck
I use Oracle cards for guidance. I keep what they say in mind and use it with my intuition. They’ve warned me of things coming etc. But I would say it’s internally based on how interpret what it means.
Thank you for this. I'm new at Tarot, but am familiar with the cards. I wanted to get proficient at it and accidentally bought Oracle cards. I'm not super into them, for the exact reasons you stated. They're mainly affirmations. I am going to go pick up a tarot deck.
Greetings from Texas! Just found you recently. I am perusing your content and love it. I am getting back into the craft and brushing up on where I left behind. Life has been chaotic for some time.:s
I was in a metaphysical store one day and a young man asked the lady at the counter the difference between the oracle and the tarot decks and the lady said that tarot was only used for reading for others and oracle only used for reading for yourself. Alas, I couldn't keep my mouth shut (I'm doing shadow work but it takes time so...) I piped up that tarot could be used for yourself and when you're learning most of the beginner tarot books encourage you to do readings for yourself to learn the cards and that I watch a lot of videos where readers would use 2 tarot decks and multiple oracle decks for a single read. I mentioned that in my experience the oracle decks were positive affirmation cards or focused on a specific aspect like love, etc, but that I could be wrong. I encouraged the young man to watch some videos and find what works for him and said "you do you" because everyone is different. Some people do fine with one deck and that is great for them, for me I felt the extra decks added layers and I loved doing readings for myself that way, but very likely he would find himself somewhere between the two extremes. I did suggest that if he liked animals I would recommend the messenger oracle that was for sale in the shop as I was doing shadow work and the deck had triggered much needed healing tears. He took my suggestion and bought the deck. Before you say anything, I know I was out of line and should have minded my own business but I honestly felt like he should know that the sales clerk's view wasn't the only one and that he should research the topic more. If this were reddit I would be asking AITA. Am I wrong? Is the tarot only for reading for others? Everything I've read says otherwise but I don't understand why she would say that
You were not in the wrong, and I'm pretty sure you can use tarot reading for yourself! If I was in that man's position I would have loved an extra opinion.

That Wild Unknown deck is SO PRETTY!

your videos are always so informative without being boring at all. Thanks again Hearth!
Very interesting, I think I will stick with tarot cards. You expanded it really well
Thank you so much for this! Very helpful as are all your videos! 🤓🥰🙌🏽
Omg your so underrated!! Your videos are so long and In depth exactly what I’ve been looking for x
Good clear explanation! Thanks!
I use Oracle cards for guidance. I keep what they say in mind and use it with my intuition. They’ve warned me of things coming etc. But I would say it’s internally based on how interpret what it means.
your videos are always so informative, thank you so much!!
Thank you so much, very informative video! Im happy that you give examples with the Wild Unknown deck - so pretty ^^
Thank you for this. I'm new at Tarot, but am familiar with the cards. I wanted to get proficient at it and accidentally bought Oracle cards. I'm not super into them, for the exact reasons you stated. They're mainly affirmations. I am going to go pick up a tarot deck.
Hearth I LOVE the new intro it’s beautiful 🍃✨
I use both, mostly Tarot as it's a straight shooting deck, but I love my Oracle deck too :)
Also. . . LOVING the new channel look!!
Love Hearth Witch so much to learn, I love showing my beautiful grandkids her videos so well done 👍🏻
Greetings from Texas! Just found you recently. I am perusing your content and love it. I am getting back into the craft and brushing up on where I left behind. Life has been chaotic for some time.:s
Love the new intro Hearth.. Love all the botanicals.. 🌿🌿
just wondered about the difference between them last night, thanks for the info!
Every singe video I’ve watched so far I’ve learned so much, Hearth! Thank you so much for your videos you are so appreciated 💚💚
I've been looking forward to a video like this thank you! And I love how long your hair is getting your so beautiful inside and out!
