  • In this video, I take you through the "entry level" Pentax Camera Menu and show you how to set it up and what settings I personally use. I also explain why I set my camera(s) up the way I do. Some of the defaults should be changed right away, why? Well, watch the video and you'll see!

    Just watched your video again for the up 10th time! You are my go to when I have a problem or Pentax Forums; but for the last 3 days couldn't find settings for time lapse. I have a k-70 (my go to camera) and secondly my k-30. My Pentax line of cameras go back to the '80s. (I am 75) Actually have 4 dslr's and 1 film. (all Pentax) Problem with TH-cam, the forums and everywhere else I looked, nothing quite nailed it down. After 3 very hard days of searching and trying this and that, I finally nailed it! You mentioned time lapse but just skipped right over it. I am sure there are others out there just like me. Especially with the solar eclipse coming up April 8, 2024. I truly wish you would do a how to video on time lapse. Thank You!

      That's a valid point. Thank you for mentioning this. As for time lapse, are you talking about video which is technically the only time lapse option there is on those cameras. Or do you mean interval shooting mode?

      In the main menu you'd have to set focus peaking. Then when you're manually focusing in live view, just press the "ok" button and it will zoom in. Use the rear dial to increase/decrease the zoom amount. When you no longer need the zoom, just press the "ok" button again.

    Where do you set the picture preview time . On most pentax cameras you can set the amount of time the photo stays on the screen after you take the photo for example lets say you have your display set to off so the screen isn't lit up the whole time before you push the shutter half way down button while looking throw the view finder . After you take the shot ,most cameras will let you set a preview time like no auto preview or 3 or 5 seconds to check it out and then it go off so your ready to take another shot with out the screen being lit up . where is that setting ? Also from what I understand if you don't have the display set off and you have it on say the info setting where you see the cameras settings that it will stay on the entire time while your eye is looking through the viewfinder until you push the shutter half way down . Meaning if you don't want the display staying on the whole time you have to keep your finger pressed on the shutter button half way down just to keep the display off . Is there a way to set a time on how long the display screen will stay on or does it stay on the whole time until you press the shutter half way down ?

    I've had the Pentax K3 for quite a few years on and off. However, each time I pick it up I find that are aspects that this camera can do that I was not aware of the last time I picked it up. This camera has so much to offer that I could never run out of things that I can do and expand on my photography and skill. Now having said all that, I am thinking about getting a second body just in case something happens to my K3. I'm quite happy with my collection of lenses and I think another body would be the thing I might want. I however do not even want to go and pop off money I don't have on the Pentax k3 III. Nice to have but I just can't justify the cost for the amount of the kind of photography I want to do. I've made my decision to go back in the Pentax arsenal for the Pentax K70 body. Any thoughts on me picking a good beginner body like the K70 being a wingman for my K3? Would do ya think Kobie?

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The K-70 is a good camera but get an extended warranty with it just in case. It is a body that may suffer from the Aperture solenoid issue where it will close down the aperture of the lens all the way when the solenoid fails. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it is a thing unfortunately. The KP doesn't suffer from it, but the K-70 is a more economically priced camera. And has the flip out screen vs tilting. It depends on if you want a different camera as the companion, or would a used K-3 as a backup be a better fit for you?

How is it that by framing my shot on the LCD screen the release does not take place while it works in the viewfinder? And why do I have to work at the maximum ISO (51200) with the Il values at most + 5 to hope to have a correct exposure? Salut JC.

      Hi JC.
      It seems that tou have Aperture block failure on your K-50. The lens wont open the iris even if you change the setting. It will always be as closed down as possible (F/22-F/32). It is a known issue and the fix is to het the part replaced with a new Solenoid/motor.
      For the shutter button relasing only in the viewfinder, it could be settings you have for live view. Or you could have a similar issue to my K-30 where it just doesnt focus so it wont shoot. It's hard to say what's causing this issue.
      I hope some of this helps.

      Oh, it might be an actual fault with the camera (aperture block failure). To rule that out, put the camera in auto or P and take a picture in decent light. If it's still dark, then you most likely have the aperture block failure. Which lens is it that you're using? Do you have another lens you can test with? Best would be a lens with an aperture ring on it that you can adjust manually. Either that or you've accidentally moved the ring to the smallest aperture instead of leaving the ring on "A". Again, I don't know what lenses you're using.

    • @KobieMC
      @KobieMC  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately Pentax doesn't do "clean HDMI" so it won't be only what you recorded. It'll show exactly what's on the back of the screen. You'll need a seperate capture device that would go between the camera and the laptop. I use an older Avermedia Live gamer portable capture card. You'll need a micro HDMI to HDMI adapter as well. If you have a monitor or tv with HDMI you could plug the camera directly into that BUT as I said, it will show exactly what's on the rear LCD. What you'll get from the SD card is what you'd expect. The actual recorded video. Tethering without a clean hdmi signal will always show the red record icon and settings etc.
      If you're asking "can I use the camera as a webcam to record live directly to my laptop, the answer is, unfortunately no.
