Im a nurse with no student loans because my parents paid for it im forever greateful for them and im going to do the same when i have kids in the future and teach them about finances just to prevent them to end up like this caller.

Pharmacists don’t make enough to be almost 500k in debt (especially unsecured debt). Sheesh. It’d be better to be a plumber.
I know it’s not the Ramsey way but I would tell this guy file BK and wipe the slate clean. Then never repeat this behavior again.

@@imsh0t It depends on how much they sacrifice. If they sacrifice and do what Rachel and George said to do, they will probably get out in about 3-5 years. But if he continues and not too worried about his financial situation. They will never get out of this mess.

He's 36 and just graduating which means he decided, as a grown adult, to take out hundreds of thousands of dollars for college, use a house as collateral, and while they were at it they bought cars they couldn't afford. And he isn't even having a panic attack about it? These people clearly have an ingrained mindset that loans are free money to buy whatever lifestyle you want. Even if they did by some miracle manage to dig themselves out, I can pretty much guarantee they would get another big car loan or something else stupid.

It’s times I feel like I cheated myself by skipping college and joining the army 12 years ago then I hear stories like this about college students and I feel like I made the right choice my goodness !

Went into the service got out the went to nursing school in my mid 30s as did many others, I've met doctors that start med school in their 40s it's never too late. Also you can do all your prerequisites while in.

They are on the older side, so it is kinda "now or never". They do not have the luxury of being able to wait 5-8 years

What I do like hearing from these videos is there us always a way to fix these money problems. They never make it sound hopeless
Yes! It can be done if you are disciplined to keep up with the baby steps. It worked for me. I had close to $500k of debt and was able to pay it all off after listening to Dave and going gazelle intense and living on rice and beans. It really works!!
They’ve been living high on the hog with money from student loans. At OSU, a PharmD is roughly $117k.
All of those loans should be stopped at the federal level. Then the price of the PharmD will drop to $25k.

@@DavidRamseyIII The point is that the price is artificially inflated and would have to come way down if students cannot get guaranteed loans. This is simple economics. I’m not talking about other countries.
@@Originalman144 There is a lifetime total limit on dricet federal loans for graduate school of about $135K. More than half of his loans were from private soure. The govenment has capped their loans, but people just look elsewhere.
if he's at $108K for every other week, work the other week as a pharmacist somewhere else and double that income. The wife needs to find more income too. Man, what a mess. I wouldn't be able to sleep!

On top of the opportunity cost loss of not starting in another career for those years in school. Even if intro salary was $40k they would be in a significantly better financial situation. Although considering their decision making process, probably not.
That is such a deep hole my head is spinning. Makes me thankful for my own life situation.
Adoption out of the foster system is minimal out of pocket. States reimburse most if not all expenses, out of foster system.
My state allows adoption without fostering once parental rights have been terminated.
The chance of you actually getting the opportunity to adopt the child you foster is very low. Unless you are able to emotionally handle fostering with the likelihood you won't actually be able to adopt in the end, this is not a good path. Knowing several people who have done this, as well as going to informational meetings and looking into it ourselves we didn't choose that path for this reason.
I would not recommend this route to anyone unless they feel absolutely called by God to do it. Fostering comes with a TON of risk with no guarantee that you will ever be able to adopt. You are twice as likely to be accused of abuse as a foster parent. I know of a family who literally went bankrupt paying legal fees defending themselves against abuse charges. I know another family who was two weeks away from the adoption court date, and ended up having a biological family member come from no where to get custody of the child. My wife and I fostered two infants, and years later we are still dealing with the scars left by what we went through with being lied to by multiple case workers.

I had to take loans. So I went to a reasonable school that cost me $25k to graduate. If I could go back I wouldn’t have gone, however I don’t see where people get the idea that $300k in student loans is a good idea for anything other than doctor or lawyer

My first over the table job was a pharmacy tech. I was 16 and in high school. We techs regularly did the pharmacists job... I can't believe people pay that much for that degree.
School to be a dentist can be a total ripoff too. I went back to school (not for dentistry) but only because I knew my before tax annual income would be about the same as my loans and my income would go up with experience. I had a plan to pay it off before I even started.

I feel way better about my life choices now. I out earn this guy without a college education and no debt to get here.
I’m a nurse and went to community college and obtained my BSN through a cal state college and paid as I went. I never had student loans thank the Lord but I also sacrificed and didn’t have the latest or newest of anything until I had the cash to pay it all at once. Now I’m sitting in a good place with the only debt is my mortgage which I’m trying to pay it off soon. Plus I’m saving in retirement and I have a large savings. Now I’m working a little extra to retire by the age of 59.5 or 60. I’m 54. Kids please sacrifice and don’t have debt. Whenever we need to fix anything in the house or need another vehicle we pay cash and we don’t buy new cars just decent ones.
You made a lot of good decisions. It sounds like you are going to be well set for retirement. I retired about that age as well, and I can tell you retirement is great!

Its hard for some of us to work and go to medical school full time. But I did pay for my bachelors out of pocket. The main thing is not borrowing more than you need and not buying homes etc until all the debt is paid.
Most nursing programs do not allow students to work
Students today wish we could pay the tuition you paid.

It could be a second career. In the US, people can go to college at any age. When I was in nursing school, we had a 52 year old student in our class. She was a social worker before nursing. Although most people finish college in their early 20s, there are some who are in their 30s and up. I’m going back to be a nurse practitioner next year and I’ll be 30.

I've seen couples that assumed they needed IVF. Most of the time stress was the reason for the fertility issues. You clean up the stress, relax and nature will do the rest. When you're always stressed, your hormones and endocrine system go nuts.
Stress is most commonly physiologically associated with famine historically, so producing more humans into a sense of starvation often doesn't work.

I would never ask someone to put their house on the line, especially knowing I had 300k plus in loans. I think this guy has convinced himself once he starts his 110k job things will be fine. It’s a decent income but after taxes it’s really not that much. Just his interest payments will negate his ability to have anything left to put towards principles. I’d live off his income and anything and everything his wife makes I’d put towards the debt.
Don't even think about spending tens of thousands, for IVF treatments for another 10 years.

There are different types of pharmacist just like there are different type of physicians. Retail pharmacy doesn’t pay the best salary so he should probably pursuit like nuclear or compound pharmacy. He could also teach a class in pharmacy school if he wanted to as well. There’s money to be made for him. Best of luck , Rusty👏🏾👏🏾✊🏾✊🏾

Man i feel depressed just hearing about this guys situation. Whatever he does, theres going to be years of hard times ahead. But i think he will be able to get himself out of this ruck if he sticks to a plan.
First thing I did after finishing school, is clear uo my student debt
