Moving the king back to d7 made me furious i had to admit Crooked Path sounds like an ancient order of warrior-monks, trained in both martial arts and chess.
This chess puzzle was composed back in 1928 by Alexander and Kirill Sarychev (USSR). It's considered to be a variation of the famous Reti endgame study.
It's a study from the Sarychev twin brothers, published in 1924, 3 years after Reti's study. I have a version where the king is on f3, I searched both FENs on your channel and didn't find the original post. Maybe you did it live streaming, while pausing the climb. I must say that the black king probably should be on f3. It prevents the alternative solution in the secondary line : 1. Kc8! b5 2. Kd7! b4 3. Ke6? (instead of Kd6) Ke4 : only available if king starts on f3. With the king on g3, 3. Ke6 works, 3. Ke6 Kf4 4. Kd5 draws.
Wow, just wow! This must indeed be one of the most incredible chess puzzles of all times, it's similar to the famous Reti study, but even much crazier, who would have thought somthing like this to be even possible? Chess is indeed endlessly deep and never ceases to amaze!
I swore half way through this, I clocked that it was uploaded on April Fool’s Day and so was actually a big joke to move C8 then D7… but I guess I was the fool in the end! Great puzzle
If black protects the pawn, white king move to d4 , if they push the pawn , well u just chase it with the king and capture it , if they played bishop e6 to try and protect the pawn that's about to move to b1 (after your d4 move) , then you can make a queen and force their bishop to eat your queen and undefend their pawn
Too bad: 1.Kc8 was the second move I considered, but I also immediately discarded it, completely missing the crooked path trick. :-( That trick is of course shown at its best in Réti's most famous study (wh Kh8, Pc6 vs bl Ka6, Ph5), but the present puzzle, with the counterintuitive _vorplan_ 1.Kc8, is even more surprising.
I was in that exact position the other day 😭 Edit: it wasn’t exactly the same, pawns different spot but I wanted to try and win lol but I just accepted defeat and drew the game (which was more feasible here)

Really nice way to learn about the crooked path 👍🏼

This has been here before, i remember it, but it still amazes me(i remembered the first two moves, that’s how i know this isn’t new)
The principle of one diagonal, you need to make sure the bishop cannot protect both pawns at once

Brilliant stuff. The white looked pretty helpless at first . It shows how important os not to commit too early to one plan.

Thats actually pretty brilliant. Even more brilliant and high five to those of you who seen that 👏👏
Never heard of the Crooked Path; awesome!!!
Crooked path puzzles for kings is a chess classic.
Hi nelson, does playing chess improves nervous system? Or it just a pattern recognition game.
Like quantum mechanics, the king is in two places at the same time. Maybe the ranks are particles and the diagonals are waves.
Yep, I remember this puzzle from some earlier video. Very practical
Alternative title:
How to defend against the Bishop that's 1000 miles away.
It's not even that far away so it's attackable.
Youre a Grandmaster at teaching ❤️

6:54 black can also move the king to g4 to protect the bishop so it wouldn't work
Yup same question
i believe white could do the same thing Nelson said about going to the pawn
nvm i just looked and i found out that if black protects his bishop, the king can catch up to the pawn
Kc8 is for me is unhuman move, who would think about moving the king back and chasing the pawn in critical way.
Awesome puzzle and i enjoyed it.
Thanks to Nelson i could do it by myself because of nelsons other videos and i can tell that I'm improving because of Nelson.❤❤❤
It's like Reti's endgame problem. Cool
I assumed you needed the crooked path idea from Reti's endgame study but still failed to find Kc8 Kd7
I think it's a harder wersion of Reti's etude, and this is very cool
Me thinking I’ve solved it, and he explains my plan exactly
“… but the problem with that..”
*goddammit*
Wooooow crazy
I love puzzles were the first move looks like a blunder.
You already did a video on this puzzle before
Was easy for me to solve it,because I've already seen a similar puzzle with the same idea.
Very nice and learning-ful!
Looks like a famous study by Richard Reti
2:47 No, it was Kc8 that came to my mind
YOUR CONTENT IS VERY GOOD
Great solution
Your friend martin is now insane
Could you beat him right now!!!!!!😂
Had it in children’s book (Averbakh, Beilin).
I'm sure you've already cover this, but the cricket path of the king is still satisfying to watch
It’s actually the crackhead path.
When is the next video of the chess adventures series is going to be out?
I think maybe he explained the Crooked Path on the first time he posted that.😯
Walking the crooked path

Super helpful vid, thanks Nelson🤠🤠🤠
Amazing. Thanks
I’m sure there was a video on this position
How can I send my puzzles? I have 3 puzzles that are fairly easy but it has a nice theme among all of them
This is a very interesting and instructive tactic.
Deleted from memory after half an hour. 😆
I thought this was April's Fools😅
That's funny. I wish it was.
Yeah, i remember this one, you did it already
Would like to see if Magnus or Hikaru can figure this out
5:07 isn't Kf4 a move
I thought the same thing
After Kf4 white can just play Kc6, simultaneously threatening capturing Black's pawn or promoting without the risk of being skewered.
Can you bring chess adventures back pls
sweet puzzle
I was in that exact position the other day 😭
Edit: it wasn’t exactly the same, pawns different spot but I wanted to try and win lol but I just accepted defeat and drew the game (which was more feasible here)
I thought you had done this one before
I thought this was an April Fools joke for half the video 😢
the puzzle is very nice. btw , i have sent you 3 story continuations in chess adventures. its in the comments of episode 44
KC8 B5
KD7 B4
KD6 BF5
KE5 B.....
KD4
Why is Kc6 not an option
Nelson really lost the memory of this puzzle.😏
I saw this the first time when he posted it the first time so I solved now and the first time.😎
This is a remake
Dayum is all I have to say
Draw ?
5 mins ago is Crazy
Immediate draw move, white pawn promoted to white knight & b6.
Is this an april fools thing, or is it a legit draw
Legit draw
Hi Nelson :D
Is this some kind of joke?
Obligatory TH-cam algorithm comment.
Please Stop Saying pawns are going FORWARD or THIS WAY. Pawns go UP or DOWN.
