    Thanks for these tips. I actually got my placement today and I'll be in Okinawa, which is how I found your video.

    Thanks for the tips man! US JET’s got their results at the end of March, we should be finding out placements at this end of this month! So excited and these tips are super useful !

      Good luck! What places are you hoping for? And let me know if you have any questions, maybe I can answer them or find another JET with an answer.

    This is sooooo helpful!! I’m moving to Japan through JET in a few months and everyone else I have seen says to get a phone plan but no one has provided details. Thanks so much for the video!

    Good video, as I understand it is expected that you give your new neighbors a small omiyage when you move in as well. Like you said it can be very modest like cookies, sweet, or crackers.

      @StrykeTeamAbroad  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true even though I didn't do that when I came. My new neighbor gave me like 5 boxes of tissue. It definitely doesn't have to be anything big. 🤣😂🤣

      @@StrykeTeamAbroad Full disclosure, I didn’t do it at either of our 2 homes, I think my wife did. My language skills suck so I avoid many of these things. I wish for your safety with the approaching typhoon.

      @@windansea6702 Thank you! If it lands this will be my first time. I'm a little worried but I'm optimistic.

    These tips were super helpful. Preparing to depart to Okinawa in August (and from Sacramento. Go Kings 🏀). The phone aspect was something I've been stressing about, along with wifi 😅

      Depending on how fast you need it I would definitely go with one of the two I mentioned.

    Keep it going!! Good stuff man. I just got accepted to JET. Now I'm just waiting for placement 😬.

    Youi dont need to bring omiyage to begin with. Its for when you go on vacation as a sort of thank you for them covering your work for you. Save luggage space people.

      This is technically true. As a new person to the country they may not expect it but 80% of the JETS I talked to did it. It’s a good first impression I think.

    I’m moving to Japan at the end of this year. I’m not very tech savvy. I have an iPhone 14 with e-sim. Do you know how I would get a phone plan that doesn’t use a physical SIM card?

    • @StrykeTeamAbroad
      @StrykeTeamAbroad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My company ahamo has an eSim option. And if i am remembering correctly most companies did. It should be pretty easy to get. Also, with an iphone most of your messages are technically internet messages not SMS. If you use facetime calls/whatsapp then my plan would be really good for you. I have the 100GB for 4,950yen or $34.

    This is awesome, thanks! I'm a recently accepted JET from the Sac area too!! How was the transition weather-wise for you?

    • @StrykeTeamAbroad
      @StrykeTeamAbroad  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not bad at all. Sac is actually hotter in the summer than pretty much anywhere in Japan. The main difference will be the humidity as it is way more humid. Were used to earth quakes so the craziest thing will be your first typhoon scare. I had one a while back and I totally freaked out! I actually have a bunch of video from that time... Maybe I should post it. lol

      @@hannahalcorn1688 HAHAHA just don't bring to many of your own clothes. Go to Uniqlo and buy stuff there. It's designed for the weather and very breathable. Wish we had it in the states.

    How is it being an african american living japan? Have you experienced any racism or anything like that?

    • @StrykeTeamAbroad
      @StrykeTeamAbroad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not that serious. They do have a lot of ideas of black people from hip-hop but they aren't afraid of us or something like that. If anything they think we're all very cool which I find hilarious. Most of their biases come from innocence, not malice. Japan is not a diverse country so any racism you get as a black person will often also be attached to white or Chinese. It's usually a person who generally doesn't like foreigners at all not specifically black people. If it is going to be a specific group it's usually Chinese not us. However, everyones experience is different. My Hispanic friend visited for two weeks and in that amount of time faced more possible racism than I did in a year.
