I'm 70 but this conjures up memories from my childhood. So much more sophisticated. So much more engineered. So much more better and usable. BUT!!! It can also be accomplished with a standard garden hoe that you can find in your Dad and Mom's shed that they used for gardening! Haha! Heat and straighten the shaft (with a hammer and a propane torch) between the wooden handle and the hoe blade.. Cut the hoe blade end into a V point using a hacksaw and sharpen with a file. We never got to kill anything with it but we sure stuck it into a lot of things we shouldn't have!! Hahaha Memories...and ass whoopins!! Hahaha
I dont plan on spearing stuff but my blow guns, viper and fish hawk been so fun! Silent....but deadly.... Also my son got in trouble from killing squirrels in town. I dont know how many he shot at but I did see a picture of 3 dead at least. But neighbor ratted him out because a squirrel running around with a dart in it and called DNR. Well I know and see it does slow dart down alot but if fish hawk can get one at least Ill have dart at worse case reel it in so it dont get away. But also they may be a whole other experience with squirrel running to me or what ever will happens reeling in. lol Also we all take ethical shots here, if you are a Tim Wells slockmaster personI know your good.. but people who dont know him....or us....we mess up and it happens so because of modern Karens I have to say I dont want wounded animals running around and will use what I get for nourishment as much as I can. @@FarmerFpv
I’d love to see you work an atlatl. Epic spear throwers. I can’t imagine what you could do with your natural ability to shoot and throw instinctively. New spit viper blowgun on the way btw! Love your vids mr. Slock
Nah. The sharpness and hardness of the spears blade is far more important than the distance you can throw it. You never want to throw it at a target you intend to kill past 3-5 meters. For that, you use a bow. Past 10 meters, use a rifle. Range isn't the goal, lethality is.
@@arbhall7572 What? I’m confused at what your trying to get at….. Are you referring to throwing one of Tim’s spears past 5 meters? Because an ability to have enough penetration at range is crucial, and as opportunist hunters (those that used atlatls) they threw those distances from 10 yards-40 yards and farther. Also as someone who has built and thrown an atlatl, I can verify beyond a doubt that the weight of the dart itself is so heavy especially compared to an arrow that If the dart is attached with a stone point or even better a modern broadhead, out at ranges of 30-40 yards if that dart hits its target, the sheer weight of the dart drives it lethally deep into the body. Hence the reason an atlatl was what was used to bring down huge animals like the mammoth. Again, I’m not sure what your trying to debate…
There's a simple way to get more range. Look into war darts. Roman soldier used a string and a notch just in front of the vaines. I have tried it and I'm minute of man out to sixty yards. In my testing. Fairly accurate out to 20 yards. I think natives on the west coast used thease instead of bows?
Your spark burns bright Wells family. A true contrast to the nonsense. A reminder. Have you seen the power of the atlatl? It would be inspiring to see a master hunter get into the brilliant minds of our ancestors and orate. Cheers.
Nice and effective!! I like the old Mcgiver ingenuity. You can build your original spear with an exchangeable tail, from vanes to metal ring, without investing much. Just a quick release like an impact drill have to switch between bits.
I just made a traditional style wooden hafted boar spear. 6' Oak haft, similar blade shape to yours 2 inches wide, case hardened mild steel, two 1/2" steel lugs, leather handle wrap. Sheas a beauty, im taking it hunting next week.
Think Atlatl for the 'Sparrow'....not much of a stretch in thinking for the advancement of distance throwing with Tim's ability in cutting the distance as it were.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Tim is a real role model. Yeah people may disagree with his hunting, but he's so much more than that. He's a proud family man and American, he cares greatly about the environment and above all he has morals and values and a work ethic that's missing in the modern world. God bless you and your family Tim 🙏🙏🙏 love from 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Atl atl dart is resembling the sparrow. I dig the concept. How heavy? Would like to know what carbon fiber type material would be like. Having a modern throwing device to gain throwing leverage. The guy who was making it is priceless, go to shed and boom killing stick. Big fan just too old to throw. 👍💘
I really like that Tim! I have a Boar spear but it is way to heavy to throw accurately, it feels more like a straight drop bomb instead of a spear! But this new design looks very promising can't wait to get my hands on one!!
If it has wings on the head that particular style was meant to be used by driving the butt into the ground and lower the point into the boar as it charged you (from my understanding)
Pretty sure you supposed to drop those from above, not throw bud. There's world's of difference between the two. Boar spears are either dropped from above or set to receive a charge. A throwing spears shift has to be flexible throughout most the length, but rigid near the ends. So that it flexes and wobbles to stabilize itself in flight. Throwing spears also usually have vains to guide and manipulate airflow. Very very different designs.
Thank you for your input, but I just made a personal observation to that vary fact, I wasn't asking a question. Even thou Mr. Thompson does demonstrate in his videos of said product that they can be thrown, I myself find it to difficult to do so with any hope of hitting the broad side of a barn with it, hence my observation!
I would've used heatshrink on the tails of the fletching rather than lashings. If you tie the loose end of the cord to a fixed point and roll the shaft up to it, you get a much firmer lashing
You need an Atlatl to add to the lineup. Then when the finally clone a mammoth we can all be prepared when they grow out of control and roam the countryside in packs.
If it's possible, can you do persistence hunting? Persistence hunting is pretty much the oldest way of hunting. It was used by early man where you chase down your prey until it collapses from exhaustion.
When I was a kid I made a spear once. was a great spear. My dad said it was something to sharp for me to have and took it away. Later my brother defended himself from a pack of wild dogs. Something like yours, but mine was done with a Siprus tree branch, and I flattened the head to be more aerodynamic, and done with a pocket knife and all wood.

@@TimWellsBowHunter Hey Tim. Love your content. I come for the slocking, but stay for your captions lol. I have seen videos of Malaysians hunting with blowguns and they usually attach a bayonet to the tip. Of course they use pretty large, hardwood blowguns so maybe that makes it more viable. Have you ever tried using an addle addle that should give you a lot of distance, though it looks like a lot of practice is involved too
Great suggestion and I'm sure Tim could pick it up quickly.
It's atlatl. Good try though. Also Tim's mentioned before that he's no good with them.

Should try using some Kydex fletching also you could heat it and turn the the fletching like Helical to get a spiraling
You have what would be a version of a medieval war dart spear, or a giant Roman plumbata war dart.
