Btw, about the learning curve: I love seeing people experiment and learn with resin, or most other mediums, really. I have to admit that after three years of resin work, I'm still mainly just experimenting!
Thanks. Yes there's always stuff to learn I think. I do almost all of my learning on camera, very rarely do I test anything first off camera, so you see the whole thing :)
@@miniscenesgb I happen to think that's awesome. I've even considered making my own channel. I have a name reserved, lol. I need to make some videos. I know about resin and other crafts, not video making!! I've got a couple of cameras, a fluffy microphone with a stand, but I do most of my crafting in my bedroom, because that's all I have. I share a 1 1/2 bedroom apartment with another poor fellow. My entire life is lived out of one room! Nobody wants to see that! I don't know how to edit, either, so I'm just happily watching others ;)
Oh Tracey, that is beautiful, the colours are incredible. I love it - thank you for sharing it with us. The gold around the edge just sets it off. It's been a hot day today hasn't it. Take care and have a lovely Sunday. xx❤❤❤😊😊😊
OOOOH, those colors, Tracey! Sooo, so yummy! Nothing "disastrous" about it! Those gold blobs on the edge looked like flowers! 😍 Yes, metallic powders OR inks do try to take over, but they're sooo beautiful. I have that ink set. I LOVE the shimmer and dance of the inks...I could watch that all day! The colors look like autumn leaves all raked into a pile! LOVE the bowl! 💕😍❤ *TIP:* Rebecca of @Art of Cheshire Cat places her fully cured resin platters/trays into very hot water and softens them right up and she can then easily shape it. Petra introduced Rebecca and her hot water method to her own group. TIP: A spray or two of alcohol works to release the bowl. 😊
thanks - yes I know the hot water technique, I have seen Petra do that. Luckily I caught it about right anyway for this one. I have used alcohol spray before to release from a tin bowl but I actually found the silicone mould release spray easier as it stops it sticking in the first place :) Thanks for the tips and I'm so glad you liked it :)
How can anyone call what you do an epic disaster ??? I would love to see all the things that they did !!!. Your work is just brilliant no matter what you do . This bowl is just brilliant !!!! Just love to goldenness of it
I could watch those inks al day. Other than where I cut any silences, that was all real time. Watching it back when it went live I thought the ink movement looked like timelapse - then my hands appeared and you could hear me talking and so it really was real time... I so have to do another of these
This bowl turned out super amazing!!! I absolutely love it!! I love all of your experiments, as it shows what can and can't be accomplished. Thank you!+
Tracey, this bowl is really beautiful. I love the colors and the shape of it. I haven't tried making a round bowl like this yet, but I have watched other TH-camrs do it. A couple of them use a heavy object in the center to weigh down and form a flat bottom for the bowl. Something like a full bottle of resin works for them. You definitely didn't need that this time, but if you use a different bowl to shape the one you are making, it might come in handy. ❤❤❤
What a stunning bowl!! I just love it. I think I’ve seen a couple of different artists use the cups when shaping resin structures… Sharon Lindley and Julie Cutts are two that I know I’ve seen… I’m guessing there are plenty more too! Much love, Nat. ❤❤🇦🇺
Yes you can use all sorts and I like to follow those two, that is probably where I got the idea, I think you are right. This is my 4th attempt so I am still learning what works for me :)
OH WOW!!! I was a bit bored and just had the video running in the background over coffee UNTIL...UNTIL you molded it into the BOWL!!! GORGEOUS!!!! I've been a mixed media artist for 30 yrs and you have IMPRESSED ME! Darling I have GOT to incorporate some of your idea into my work and HOPE I have something ALMOST as beautiful as YOUR work! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much 😊 I was fascinated watching the inks dance. I'll do some more like this i think, trying different colours, different placements of the inks etc
I couldn’t take my eyes off the way the inks danced like you said. Yes it was fascinating & I loved how it just kept going. I’ve ordered my inks & when they get here, Australia 🇦🇺, I’m going to try this. I have a “splat” shaped mould & im going to use that. It has matching coasters so I’m going to do a tray with the coasters. Then I might attempt a bowl as well. I will let you know how I go.
@Kathy-Carr Yes, Petra told us she learned the hot water bath trick from Rebecca of @Art of Cheshire Cat. Rebecca makes quite thick bowls, so after the resin has cured, she places the tray into hot water (kitchen sink, I think) then shapes it. It works a treat!
It really turned out beautifully. I've seen them shaped over and inside, both have their virtues. When we were kids, we put LPs over different height cans and popped the while thing in the oven at 180F, just warm enough to make the vinyl bendy. When we let them cool, they were the same wavy shape as this bowl. Maybe heat would help with getting the resin to settle in or over the bowl. Mind the fumes👏😊
Tracey I love both sides. So pretty. ❤❤❤. Mixed Media Girl put a silicone mat on top of it and weighs it down with a gallon or half gallon of resin. This helps to stay in the bowl. Julie Cutts with Pouring Your Heart Out puts the cups to shape it.
Ahhh yes! Julie is where I saw it you are right. And the center - weight is a fab Idea. I really need to catch up on Mixed Media Girl's videos. thank you
Other people who I have seen do bowls (I have only done a couple) use empty prescription bottles or glitter containers to keep the forms or make forms, just as you did with the cups. Mixed media girl likes to put a bottle of resin or other weight in the center.
I’m sure it’s already been said as I’m late to watching this😊however Art of Cheshire’s channel waits until hers set I believe around 12 hrs(not 100%)but she then just places her piece in hot/warmer water for a few minutes to soften it. I’ve also seen others use their heat gun. Petra G. who does bowls all the time said she saw that & demonstrated trying it & loved the result. Said she will use that method going forward as it prevented her from getting those wrinkles along the piece/edge & gave a better finished result. My apologies if everyone else already shared this info. I always love to share any wisdom or hacks for other fellow resin artists!! This is a gorgeous bowl, the Metallics are stunningly sparkly spectacular! BTW I was 😂 when u asked if the resin was avoiding ur energy field when it wasn’t spreading to the area closest to u. That was freakin gr8! I ask my inanimate objects questions like this all the time😮or tell them they’re rude for doing things I didn’t request of them😅
Yes I already know that as I follow those channels but that wasn't the method I was trying :) this resin would be rock hard in 12 hours and no amount of heat would get it bendy enough without damaging it. I think this was about 7 hours? Can't remember exactly. Glad I'm not the only one who talks to my resin lol
Looks fan bloody tastic, why is it we remember when people say negative things, so rude…I had someone comment my African Grey parrot was loud, I started to close doors (not fully) and have Alexa play nursery rhymes to keep him quiet. Go for it! The trick is to set an alarm to remind you to keep checking it regularly so you don't miss that point when it's just bendy. though if you go a little past it you can warm it up to make it a it bendier again
