This is going to be my like 15th time rewatching this series via react youtube and I hope to keep doing so until the second season drops. Welcome to the journey! 🎉
This anime is like a lesson in story crafting. Each episode's arc is relatively simple, but carries the weight of a freight train. Every re-watch I learn something new about writing from the author.
Watching Himmel looking at the meteor shower, with his eyes glistening, gets me so emotional every time. The beauty and fleeting nature of the meteors perfectly mirrors the beautifully short human life span that Himmel had. It's so majestic and yet so sad, just like the show itself.
You said 10 years after Himmel died but it's been 20 years since she last saw Heiter. And before that it was 50 years before since the party was together so the time that's passed during this episode has been 70 years. It's interesting to watch how younger reactors will view the show. Being an older anime fan, there's a lot here that make one reflect on the time they've spent on this Earth. You got a sub!
Glad to be here! (Been around since I _think_ Andor, watching off and on... NO idea why I wasn't subbed before. /shrug.) Regardless, hope you've been enjoying your Frieren journey, and I'm sure FMAB will be a fun ride as well.
i consume a lot of media as i am really open minded about art or media in general, and this adaptation/show is truly something special. they caught a lightning in the bottle in season1, hope the 2nd season gets the same treatment as well
I’m so excited to watch this with you. As far as I’m concerned this is easily the best anime ever made. It’s also the first anime I’ve ever watched that got me to read the manga once I finished watching because I needed more to tide me over until season 2.
Frieren (the series) described in one sentence: Wrapped in a warm blanket of nostalgia, watching a rainbow while drinking a beer after a hard day and just relaxing on your comfy couch. There are lots of other facets of this show, but at it's core it makes you feel good, lot's of other shows while quite good, left you feeling slightly drained, kinda exhausted after watching it. After the average Frieren episode, you have more in the tank than before. I can kinda understand why some people complain that it is slow and boring, but most people agree that the show is pretty much perfect!
I think for younger viewers its harder to get in, because the themes in this show resonate more if you made your own experiences in life. Im now 34 and many of Frierens struggles are also the struggles many adults fight. Of course many life lessons are universial, but this deeply resonated with me.
@@nikolah.8472 I agree... somewhat. It's a show about grief and regret, and how you respond to that. And it makes frequent use of flashbacks/reminiscences. These are all things which I think appeal more to an older audience. But I've still seen a lot of younger viewers/reactors who genuinely loved the show.
This anime became my favorite of all time, really, really quickly. It's amazing what they were able to do for character development so quickly, making you feel for characters in a show within minutes.
I saw your Your Name reaction and now this! I am so happy! One piece of advice: the best part of this anime are the small scenes and details! Keep on eye on them, bevause they matter a lot. And you will fall in love with it!
Frieren is that anime that just manages to make you cry every episode without seeming to try and even do that to you. It's so incredibly mature and warm that it feels refreshing, raw and honest but still maintaining that sense of beautiful tragedy that comes with living and loving.
You are in for an amazing ride with this show . Better tie yourself into your chair and hang on. Cant say much as to what you are in store for except the episodes just keep getting better the deeper you get into this ... I am a 61 year old industerial roofer , all I am going to say is I was simply floored as to just how powerful the entire show was .... Enjoy the ride !!
The names of the Charakters in Frieren are german words not typically used as names. But they mostly refelct the charakter traits of each person. For example: "Frieren" means to freeze or to shiver in german. It describes the somewhat cold emotions of "Frieren". "Eisen" means iron in german. Fitting for a hardened warriror dwarf. "Heiter" means to be cheerful, reflecting on the positive thinking of the cleric "Heiter" "Himmel" has two meanings in german, depending on the context. Himmel can mean sky but also heaven. The heaven translation will become more important in the story.
Madhouse is the studio behind this anime and they have officially announced that there will be another season of Frieren, probably at the end of this year or the start of the next.
Two things: she reunites with Heiter 20 years after Himmel's death, not 10; and Heiter says he IS more afraid of death than he had been. The reason for this, in case you miss it, is that he does not want to die and leave Fern alone. He stops drinking, too, because of his need to stay alive for Fern. I think you will really enjoy this anime. It's definitely one of the best.
Frieren is the Chicken Soup for the Soul of anime and I'm glad you decided to embark on this journey! Don't be surprised if it changes you. It is THAT good.
YAY!! I am so glad you are watching this anime!! Love your reactions so much!! You are amazing, very sweet and a beautiful person!! Best wishes always Emme! 🙂❤
I cant count how many times I rewatched this damn show (because no one in my friend group watches it so I watch reactors instead) and I still love it 🤧😩. Thanks for a very good reaction.
I loved that you kept looking for the inciting incident, something that would break the peace and start another war or something, when in reality the inciting incident is just Himmel dying of old age which makes Frieren sad xD
4:47 "She looks really young though. I wonder how old she is. Especially if they've been doing this for ten years." Oh this is gonna be a good reaction.
Frieren is how I've discovered every single react channel that I watch regularly now. TH-cam is like, "We got another one for you! Check it out!" And yes I will watch every single one and yes they've all retained my viewership after
How is it possible that it makes you emotional? ... Well ... ... Welcome to Frieren. Where the heart strings are pulled in a beautiful way and "What would Himmel the Hero do?" most likely turns into your philosophy going forward.
Im never getting boring watching other people Frieren. ... No joke, priests have made beer suitable for the masses in europe From Lisbon to Beijing in a road-trip is 32.800km in 314 days without pause.. This continent is rly huge Dont wonder when the episode ends abrupt, all 4 episodes we known are actual one big episode that was aired in japan as one.
So, as you start your Frieren journey, just a non-spoiler hint. There is very little that is said or shown in this anime that doesn't have a connection elsewhere in the series. Might be in the same episode, or many episodes later, but there are so many details that you really have to pay attention.
This anime is not the ”end of the journey”. It is "葬送のフリーレン(Sousou no Frieren)." "葬送(Sousou)" means to see off the dead. The story is about Frieren's journey to see off the deaths of her companions who traveled with her, and to trace their memories.
The patrons may have already helped out with the pronunciations, but I’m happy to offer a few in case not! :) You already saw how to pronounce Frieren and Himmel and the rest of the original party. Aureole is pronounced “Aw-Ray-Oh-Lay” I’ll post more in response to this comment if I see others you ask about (still watching) Also, all the names in this show are in German. Very exciting for me personally, as a dude of German American ancestry who grew up speaking German with my grandparents and took German in school. Oh, you started Frieren, Emme? Good choice! It's a really good anime! Bit of advice for watching this anime - you have to read between the lines and pick up on small details. Like in this episode, Frieren said she can barely detect her mana, but then Fern blasted a spell across a huge canyon. That should tell you something. Also Frieren was holding a ring after Himmel's funeral, although not entirely necessary, but it would be good to remember such things

I suggest considering to watch Full Metal Alchemist 2003 rather than Full Alchemist Brotherhood. The main stream opinion seems to be that FMAB is the better series, but, as a thoughtful person, I prefer FMA 2003 much more.

I honestly believe this is the best anime of all time.

For me it is, with only Vinland Saga coming close to it.
