It's easy to overlook for many people who haven't done it for themselves, but unless it's designer furniture etc it's always cheaper to buy something mass produced than making it yourself.
Tbh, if I have tools and ability to build I rather build one than simply buy because you can customize it for personal use and add more features to it. Many things today they use cheap parts with cheap skill, causing item to easily damage just to buy another new one. Of course, it also depends on what kind of item though, not all things must DIY.
my friend, for your own safety, can I propose an "accesory"... please add an emergency break... if you are half way down the stairs and feel you took on too much you want the wheels to stop.
I feel like the handle bar will be annoying if you're going up a whole flight of stairs. The way it will bend towards the stairs rather than away from them. Hopefully I'm wrong though, but just a thought

I like the idea you designed and made this tool from wood, however that is it's main problem. There is a weak area at the pivot point of the bed that will eventually snap at the hole. I speak from experience having used one of the steel versions here in the UK and the strain at that joint is incredible and resulted in the whole thing being bent out of shape by an idiot who decided to carry a very heavy load up 3 flights of stairs. Shame really because I wanted this to be a success. Maybe if you tried it with a heavier load and higher steps and reinforce any weak spots you identify it will still work for you.
