    Thank you all again for your support in my last two videos! They actually have been performing better than previous vlogs I have done, so if you would like me to keep these videos up, please keep LIKING, COMMENTING, and SUBSCRIBING to show your support which allows me to continue making more genuine videos instead of click baity / strictly informational videos. Would love to continue keepin' it real with y'all! ❤

    Yes we need more videos like this!!! As an animator i always worked a part time customer service job while being an animator that i could work full time in between jobs. I finally ended up having to switch careers because the instability/lack of health insurance was too difficult. Also carpel tunnel.

    I really like your perspective on health insurance and freedom in general. I don't want my choices in life to be governed by employment-provided health insurance either. I work a corporate job and yearn for the freedom of an independent artist more every day, but it's a whole other mountain I have to figure out how to climb. There's so many nonsensical limitations to full-time corporate jobs and I want my time and flexibility back.

    • @mewTripled

      I totallyyy agree! I've grown up being told that it is important to have good benefits from my employer, but I'm just like... is that what should just dictate my life decisions? Definitely something I've been thinking about too.

    I find it absolutely WILD that those aspects of the industry are not taught in art schools (I'm from France I had hopes it would be different in other countries) and that's also why I like you channel. Making a career is not only about art related stuff.

    the part about not stick to the idea of being one thing and let that defines you resonated with me so much!! Im an animator and for a loooong time Ive been not allowing me to do anything else than what u expect of an animator to do, and kept bottled up the things I really wanna do. I took me 8 years in the industry to realise that this shouldn't define my life and I can be other stuffs as well as an 9/5 animator, or even tho not being an animator for a time if I want to, and Im way more happy now and even my relationship with my animation job changed.Thank you for the video and since I discover your channel recently Im really enjoying it! Keep the amazing work and all the best in your journey

    I genuinely appreciate your openness and transparency in sharing your experiences about being laid off as an artist in the animation industry. It's refreshing to see someone address this topic with such clarity and practical insights.
    I'm curious to know more about your plans for the storyboard career course you mentioned. How do you envision it helping aspiring artists navigate the industry better?

      This video about being an "UNEMPLOYED ARTIST in LOS ANGELES: Getting Laid Off" is both brave and relatable. You're absolutely right that there's a lack of resources discussing what happens between jobs in creative industries, and your willingness to fill that gap with your experiences is commendable. Your positive outlook and focus on personal growth during these transitions are truly inspiring.

    • @mewTripled
      @mewTripled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I'm glad these videos help. My plan for the storyboarding course is to definitely teach someone how to storyboard, but on top of that, how to handle the career itself. For example, most people don't know what kickoffs, passes of boards, script changes, what your relationship is to other teammates at the studio are. They didn't teach us that much about it in school, and I feel like it would be helpful to teach others so that they know how to approach situations at work while also being a board artist. I hope that helps!

    Thank you so much for sharing everything. Regarding your experiences and how you cope, I am currently an MFA student in 3D animation. Previously, I was a financial analyst at a private equity firm. I left my prior job because I despised the monotony of a stable life. @@mewTripled I would love this as well! I live in Central California and study animation currently, and my boyfriend and I were planning on moving in together this spring. We are long distance and concerned moving to Orlando, where he lives as I finish up school since LA and California is more expensive. With me looking to getting an animation job in the future I'm just trying to figure out what the most logical thing to do would be.

    I stumbled across your channel just a couple of days back. So so appreciative on how frank you are in spilling the tea on the highs and lows of working in animation. I got laid off last year after working 7 years on a project and it's my first time going through this. The studio I was with is not local and they wanted to follow the American structure. I didn't know it was such a common thing in the US whereby once a project is over, you're kinda on your own again. I was always wondering why people there studio hop a lot and now I know. To be honest, I don't think it's healthy but American studios can get away with it since they are never short on finding talent. But you can't do that in Malaysia too much since the law here favours the employee. Malaysian companies tend to juggle a few projects at a time so there's plenty of work to go around. Once a project is over, they will squeeze you in to help out another.

    Getting laid off is happening in every industry and has happened to me x2 in my 20+ career. For me it's time to get serious about getting into art somehow/some way. If I'm going to get laid off at some point anyway it might as well be in a career I enjoy.

    Hey Michelle, good chat video! I wish your ad for the chair and table came out sooner because I was just in the market for a chair 2 weeks ago! I will definitely keep in mind of FlexiSpot in the future when I am ready to upgrade. Your conversation about being in the Animation Studios is relatable. I was a 3D animator in film but ultimately moved on into jobs that required me to be a Generalist elsewhere, and those jobs kept me employed for quite a bit. It's very dependent on the timing, availability, location and fate to sometimes land somewhere 'stable'. Your book journey is a great one, please keep at it and may success keep coming your way!

    So are all of these projects contract work? You mention vacation time but I thought they didn't really get benefits!

    • @mewTripled
      @mewTripled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not necessarily contract, but more like contracted full-time work, where you receive the benefits and everything but just for that period of time. So it's almost like a 1-2 year long commitment depending on what project you're on. But ultimately all the benefits are through the animation union.

    Thanks for this video, it give me hope 🖤 I've been struggling to get economic stability for years now. I apply to studios, I get no answer, I get few jobs as freelancer, but they are few and far between. I feel I'm just a burden to family (althought they don't say anything, maybe I'm just paranoic). I see a lot videos telling you "how to achieve your dreams and just do it you'll get results" and I get really angry 'cause that dosen't work for everyone, you can apply for years to jobs in this industry and still get knowhere, you get tired of rejection, you try to do your own thing, you don't know where to start, you just do something and hope for the best 🫠 I feel that I should be somewhere different at this point in my life, I feel like shit man 😅
    I'm just venting at this point out of desperation 😅 I'm sorry for the rant. Anyway, I apreciated the video ♥️
