The frequency of you covering AoC if just perfect. For those who want all available info there is Narc's channel who also deserves some love. Love you both!
I refuse to loose faith in this project, it looks like the true Fantasy Epic that the whole world has been waiting for since the OG days of the MMO Genre.
Most weapon types have not been touched since Alpha 1. If you want to see the direction they're going, they've already released videos displaying a WIP two-handed sword fighting style, and the short bow fighting style.
This is PRE-ALPHA, please look at other MMOs in their PRE-ALPHA state, they look like 90 pixel slideshows made in 2005. Compared to them AoC is already a masterpiece.
I'm very interested in the game, if I live to see it released (not a joke about the devs, considering my ill state of health, it's iffy.) But I'm not so obsessed that I watch the livestreams and follow all the dev communications, etc. So thanks for keeping us casuals up to date, Craig.
I feel like people keep forgetting this game has been in development for **7 YEARS** and only has extremely basic, asset-flip-like gameplay so far. Just jump back to that 2022 year in review and tell me how many monthly updates showed actual in-game content, vs how many was just the dev team telling you what would *eventually* be in the game? It took them 3 months to add the basics of a 2nd weapon/class after reworking the combat system for the 3rd time.
It hasn't been in development for 7 years. Development started in july of 2017 with just fifteen people. The team has grown since then to now encompass close to 200 people and still growing. So no, it hasn't been 7 years and the first 3 years barely count since they weren't even properly staffed.
@@Hartassen There will be ALPHA (not beta, ALPHA) tests of this game about 7 years after they started working on this game. By your definition of "working", that would be around 4 years then. That is just really bad, as there's usually years of work still to be done between early ALPHA tests and release. This is a MMORPG Star Citizen. - kickstarter backer
@@DoctorStrange01 I'm sure you know alpha 2 will be almost feature complete. Might take a year or 1.5 to finish it but that would put total development time (counting since july 2017) to less than 9 years. (Alpha 2 will come sometime next year as said by steven in last dev update), as they will be testing alpha 2 internally late 2023/early 2024. While that is certainly longer than average there are exampels of successful mmos launching with such a long development time. Throne and liberty went through development hell and has been in development for at least 12 years (announced 2011) but is now being released this year. I didn't back the game, haven't spent a single cent on it and won't until it's released.

I don’t see a single MMO that has been in development over five years ever being successful. I truly believe you have a limited window of time to keep whatever hype and Fanbase not only engaged but still around to have a successful launch in the first place.
when an mmo development surpasses 5 years it gives you a serious insight on the developers work ethic, passion, and the scope of product to expect. realistically 3 years is starting to push it based on what I've seen and lack of developer passion, I wouldn't expect this mmo to surpass bdo in any way at all. they would need some groundbreaking gameplay and fun to actually make people play this
I see a lot of games exploring these "environment impacts abilities" and stuff like that. As a player, in this case less is more, we dont need a rainy day makes electric skills or water skills more powerfull, such as a constelation impacts on some sort of ability too, what a mmo needs is stuff to do, like the good old mmos you were thrown in the game and you start your journey, and not all this bullsh1t "pick quest, kill mobs, gather resources, deliver quests, get max level in a week or so, farm endgame gear, quit game until a DLC comes". I really hope AoC gets it and make a fun game where you can explore instead of another mmo "rush to endgame" like
Combat definitely need more attention. The actions don’t seem impactful to me just yet. The hybrid system also concerns me as idk how well it’ll translate from pve to pvp. I also am a bit concerned by the characters body parts and size being proportional throughout different races and gears. I notice a lot of gear clipping also. I think the character designs and movement also seem to stiff/stagnant and less realistic with fluidity in the movement and actions. I hope the game turns out great and I hope they give attention to these things and the other concerns mentioned in comments.
game seems to be really in depths, hope the combat is immersive and fluid, and that leveling doesnt take 1 week to max.. hope they make leveling as hard as vanilla WoW in 04 :P cant wait :S:S
I got more entusiastic hearing you just talking about the game normaly, than hearing ''look at this, look at that, so amazing. Biggest MMO ever that will come''. Hearing it in a more chilled way actually made me more interested in trying this out when it comes out :)
@@martinkulich4784 That's not average. If you take a look at all the big MMORPGs of the last two decades, pretty much all of them were in development for 5-7 years, so 6~ years is the average - anything that takes longer is usually a sign that something, or a lot of somethings, is wrong. So yeah, while AoC is certainly a special case when it comes to its development, we're definitely fast approaching red flag territory.
Don't hold your breath. They've had one alpha and i've been following it for 3 years; it had already been under development for a long ass time at that point. It's a massive scope, and if they can make it happen it'll be the kind of thing we've never seen a studio pull off before and probably won't again. They haven't had alpha 2 yet, and there are probably at least two beta cycles after that. I don't think this releases this year, or next, or the next after that. Hell if I had to guess I'd say late 2026 for actual full release with a 60% chance of never getting to actual release. Don't get me wrong, the work they're doing is incredible, it's just a very huge scope. Some of what we see reminds me a bit of star citizen being years into development and showcasing stuff liks advanced cloth physics/shading... It's cool but overall doesn't seem like a very good tradeoff of time investment to value produced in the grand scheme of things.
@@Nebx1989 Better than Corepunk that was supposed to have a beta test in 2020, 2021, and still no beta test and little news give or take. Corepunk is what I'm really interested in, and blue protocol.
All of these systems are pointless if you're not testing them in an online environment. just digging a deeper hole for when they inevitably have to cut things out.
I still have high hopes but man this game is taking its sweet ass time especially since the game has been in Alpha since 2017 or 2018? Can't remember but I think people should start having some concerns and I think we need a release date or a prediction of when the game should be coming out. This has potential to bring back the old school mmos we love or it can be one of the biggest mmo flops.
Combat based on the group gameplay looks the worst kind an MMO can do: All flashy blinding moves filling the screen that have absolutely minimal effect and no kind of impact whatsoever.
Love seeing the special events system! That they are integrating story into the node development systems really makes this group stand out from all of the "same-same" we have seen come out recently. Between AoC and Pax Dei none of us will have lives away from our screens in the coming years. ^_^
As a tank, I'm actually worried about the UI. Name plates should display conditions, casting bar when interruptible, and threat percentage. The party interface should show me healing spells being cast and so on. I don't care about the UI being pretty, I want it to be functional.
As a healer i feel you, would be awesome if the UI is accessible such as in TESO, loved trying different setup in dungeons and optimizing my interface for healing.
Every time I see an update for this game I get hyped. But this is probably the first game that I’m excited for that I’m actually being orient for. I can’t wait for release but the care and polish the devs have given this game is kind of insane to me. Bravo Intrepid. And thanks for keeping the hype going with your channel @Thelazypeon. Been a long time subscribing and have enjoyed the channel for years. Cheers
There's literally other MMOs with the same concepts on the horizon and guaranteed release dates. I personally want this to succeed but it's just taken advantage of its player bases ignorance.
Cautiously optimistic. I'll wait until closed/ open beta tests late and personal hands on before judging. Thankyou for providing a casual morph enjoyed his 3-6 month update.
I am following this game from 2 years now and I may say, I will play this no matter what! Not just because the game looks very promissing but also because for a first time I see a developer company who engaged that much with fans and being so transparent and open for feedback. I can see how much passion all the people involved have for this project and cannot wait to get my hands on it! Sadly wont be this year... D;
The Ashes team dosent seem afraid to take the best parts from other games and implement into their own, while still keeping their own feel and style, I think this will do great things for them moving forward. One thing they're missing is scabbards and quivers and other weapon attachment points. I've noticed most games these days just have gear floating on your back or hip and you pull arrows out of nowhere. It'd be nice to see these in the game as they add more polish.
@@jesperburns well all of those games looked incredible when they launched in their respective times, AoC looks outdated even todays standards, maybe because of yt compression, but doesnt wow me like BDO still does on yt content. I hope they will change the UI appearance (Quest Journal, Crafting etc.) to match the artstyle and fantasy of the world. So many games the past decade miss this important (to me, at least) detail, making the UI seem disconnected from the game and breaking the immersion completely whenever interacting with it.

TRUE. Thought the same, "How the fck Narc milked that shit so much" haha the guy deserves at least a lil reference on the game for keep us high on copium.
For me it looks like they are going for 2010s outdated art style anyways. It looks like they really wanted to bring old school game feeling😅 but just not in 2D.
I can see some noticeable improvement since the last time, especially in regards to physical moves, looking more impactful and flashy. I still have hope for this game mainly because I know the creator is thinking through all the learnings from a memos of past, and has the right mindset to create a truly immersive and livable virtual world.
This is a game that continually shows it's run by people who understand what needs to be done. They aren't rushing out alphas, betas or other garbage playtests and then releasing a half-baked garbage fest. It's very clear they're taking the time they need to make a PROPER MMORPG. So it's not hard to be optimistic, the only thing that seems like it'd stop this game is running out of money. But with a continued source of clear progress, I doubt that'll happen.
I think it'd be great if you could combo your skills, use them in a different order for different effects. Shieldbash then grab and drag applies a slowing leash, or grab then shieldbash does knockdown, that sort of thing would be fun. maybe impossibly hard to do though. Combat would be more dynamic and I would practice my different combos on mobs. Making grinding still fun?
Combat aside, my biggest gripe with this project is that they are creating all this high quality assets but because they didn't mess with the engine and don't seem to have an aesthetic direction, it feels as if they bought half of them from the store, everything looks very generic despite the overall quality. Another thing is that assuming nothing happens that could slow down progress, this game is still another 2 or 3 years from release and while i don't believe it will be DOA, i fear it might feel slightly outdated by then.
I'll keep screaming this... This game won't release(in a working manner). Don't get yourself hyped, it'll just lead to disappointment. This is basically fantasy Star Citizen. Sn: I do hope I'm wrong though.
Im watching LazyPeon for years at this point, and i cant understand how this absolute chad is under 1mill subscription, even with the niche topic, he's all vids are top-notch. If u see this, thank you for your work, we love you mate! All developer team should watch a peon review and take your feedbacks, you know whats up!
the oversaturated and bright neon spell effects look off, i know that you can turn it down in the settings but still it has a very cheap mobile look to it
The way the dungeon looked was so good!!! It felt more like a AAA single player game, rather than an MMORPG. The lighting was actually great, and the environment wasn't just some sort of overlay which usually makes things blend together. Generally in MMOs the dungeons really tend to be lackluster other than the monsters and cutscenes. I think Destiny 2 really kind of showed that dungeons can look fantastic just aesthetically and it draws you in more.
Not gonna lie it's kinda hard to care about this game, long development combined with the praise that makes it out to be the "savior" of the mmo world just rubs me the wrong way.
Well as far as development time, ff14 took what 9 years? Ashes is at 6 so far. Steven hinted alpha 2 will be in 2024 and after that I really don’t see it taking but another 1-2 years. So what 9 years development time? Guess that is a while but it’s either that or they release a game that isn’t finished and has less content etc.
@@scottm.3901 Ff4 was in development for 6 years and was dogshit on launch and for years later..... The game had to be rebooted in 2013 (realm reborn). The game you see now is years post launch care and after the first version of the game failed.
@@scottm.3901 No. You don't get to call that 9 years of development when the entirety was torn down and rebooted via a different team. The dev-time for the currently existing FF14 is solely what they did for the reboot after nuking the whole damn thing. Cause by your 'logic' every mmo receiving expansions and patches would be still in dev-time.
@@RiseInAfterlife yea exactly it is, it’s still developing the game. Ff14 came out after 6 years and it was bad so another 3 years of development was done and 6+3=9
That was one of the nonsense views on that actual livestreams... there are TONS of games that have that same aesthetic to "corruption".. I am not sure you can have it without it looking somewhat similar.
Thanks for this summary -- very well done! I think Alpha 2 will take place in the first quarter of 2024, with the date being announced late this year (i.e. sometime around Christmas). I'm impressed with the progress they are making and have my fingers crossed that AoC will be an immersive tour de force.
Ive been waiting on this game for years lol, but id happily keep waiting if they're gonna have everything up to par. Its been a lomg time.....but i just want to say i appreciate them for not putting out a half assed game like.....well, every big title thats come out in years besides elden ring.
Cautiously optimistic is the best way to describe this game for me. The major thing is that prevents me from jumping on the hype train is the "always on pvp" I totally understand that a game doesn't have to be built specifically for me and my wants in mind but the questing has to be good enough to counter act the ever looming pvp. If it's just basic kill x amount of blah blah blah or fetch x amount of this or that, then it'll get pretty tedious pretty quickly. Grinding to get exp is an even worse and uninspiring way of leveling up, and if the combat sucks who would want to do that?
Looks really bad ngl... most of the announced AAA MMORPGs we know about look and feel better than this. Yes, yes... its in alpha stage still... we know. But the concept they are going with is really bad and the more I see the more I'm like "bruh, wtf is this trash". Its not good. They went for this old-school type of MMO feeling, but the truth is: most ppl hate that nowadays. The combat is horrible, the art style and world design is even worse, the characters feel like they are dead plastic dolls... the only thing that can save the game imo is their gameplay system. Which we dont know anything about. Stephen always talks about cool stuff but the end result is every time 10 times worse what he promised. I cant see this compete with things like TL, Archeage2 etc. This wont be the next big thing. IMO this will be the next New world with the same player base. The RIOT MMO is my last hope. They have everything: freakin awesome role, world, characters, systems. If they can deliver, now that will be the next big thing. Ashes? Can be good, but nothing crazy. Thats it.
What do you expect from a start up lead by a marketing fool. Just check out their failed battle royal garbage and you gonna understand... People who still hype this game up understood nothing over the years.
I hope this game releases and is successful. It's probably not my thing with the forced pvp aspect (though I've played games like that before) but I think it will definitely fill a need for those looking for a game like this. It has some really interesting ideas
As a tank main, I absolutely adore it when a game has a tricky, but rewarding system in place for gathering aggro. So, in my humble opinion, what they really need to focus on in Ashes...something that many MMO's get wrong...is how obvious and innately clear it is that you have aggro, as well as what you have aggro of. WoW without mods, especially Classic, has some of the most disgusting and dog shit aggro readability of any game on earth, especially since Blizzard's idea of a fun fight, is putting as many mobs on the screen as the newest Kingston DDR5 Ram can feasibly handle xD (it's fixed by mods, and ironically classic modders fixed it best). On the other hand, Finally Fantasy has insanely good aggro readability, however, unless you need to do some kind of savage/ultimate level complex off tank;tank swap (the ones where you wipe the raid if you lead the mobs the wrong way), than tanking is a bit too easy, usually resulting in pressing 1 button and then holding aggro permentatnly from there on, unless of course you have some try hard Samurai in your party who cares more about their parse than clearing the fight xD
If the idea is for players to make combos together and have to strategize their combat then they should lean into that. I feel like the problem is that they are trying to do a little of everything.
The year is 2053. Star Citizen and Ashes of Creation have decided to merge and become a Fantasy Space Sim MMORPG. Development will be delayed another decade for the move to Unreal 9. Devs hope to be able to implement a new hyper-immersive VR mode before they have to delay another ten years for the move to Unreal 10. New Dragon themed skins are available for every space ship for $199.99 each! Players who have invested $10000 or more are given the option to buy a 500 pack of ships and mounts for $99999! The project has hit the $5 billion mark for funding. Players rejoice and believe their children might have the opportunity to play the complete game!
I feel like all this focus on details from developers of AOC is going to be their downfall. What I mean by that is they put so much focus on little things thus whole development of this game feels like eternity, game looks really complex and it's gonna be huge, wonder if that big of a project will be even finished. Can't wait for it to be released but I have the feeling it's the game of 2030.
@@Warshipgamers and this is why product/project management is important. You have to have a clear scope and stick to it. If you just keep going and going, you will burn up your funds and have to release an incomplete project that you burned all you funds for nice to have things and didn’t provide the core to build onto. Not to mention come out dated before you even come out.
You have to remember this game has gone through I believe 2 engine changes multiple combat changes and more. If they really wanted to they could halt on everything and work on dungeons and story and slap early access and start selling the game. I'm sure what they are trying to do is make sure all these systems don't lag up the ass. I mean you have a season system the node systems which all affect each other even gathering is affected by season changes.
You have obviously not seen the graphics properly. It looks absolutely awesome, just look at the nature, the physics of falling trees while garhering, the little details like sword actually scratching the groud when hit…
graphics are the absolute least important aspect of what makes a game actually enjoyable, especially when it comes to MMOs. that's how you get BDO, looks great and everything else about it is boring as fuck.

I backed this in the kickstarter but pretty much the only time I tune in for news on it is when LazyPeon posts a video on it. When it eventually drops then it will be a nice surprise.

I don’t see a single MMO that has been in development over five years ever being successful. I truly believe you have a limited window of time to keep whatever hype and Fanbase not only engaged but still around to have a successful launch in the first place.
Lol not st all true. Good games take time to make, especially mmos that are much larger and bigger endeavors. How do you people not understand that?
Several MMOrpgs have taken more than 5 years and are successful, what rock have you been under?
They normally say the average MMO takes 7 years of development. So funny you reduce that nr by 2 years
when an mmo development surpasses 5 years it gives you a serious insight on the developers work ethic, passion, and the scope of product to expect. realistically 3 years is starting to push it based on what I've seen and lack of developer passion, I wouldn't expect this mmo to surpass bdo in any way at all. they would need some groundbreaking gameplay and fun to actually make people play this

I really hope AoC gets it and make a fun game where you can explore instead of another mmo "rush to endgame" like
Ashes of Creation is the Star Citizen of Fantasy MMORPGs.

I’ve progressed from cautiously optimistic, to optimistic now
Combat aside, my biggest gripe with this project is that they are creating all this high quality assets but because they didn't mess with the engine and don't seem to have an aesthetic direction, it feels as if they bought half of them from the store, everything looks very generic despite the overall quality. Another thing is that assuming nothing happens that could slow down progress, this game is still another 2 or 3 years from release and while i don't believe it will be DOA, i fear it might feel slightly outdated by then.
Thanks for the update. I check up on this game every year or so and watch one video on it.

Thats it.

Probably gonna release in 2026 at the earliest, it's good that they are taking their sweet time.
I feel like the problem is that they are trying to do a little of everything.
thx for your more concise version of their streams .
kinda amazing the game somehow already seems outdated

Correct ship the game in a solid strong position then use post launch content with all this extra shit.
Dude this feels like Yandev but on a AAA scale with a whole studio.
Whenever this game comes out, probably a few years, I'm gonna want to build the best PC I can. Best CPU and GPU! Time to start saving!

Star Citizen 2.0
Thanks for posting on Rumble I watched it there but could not post comments for some reason.
I know this game is in unreal 5 but the graphics/animations and the lighting seem to me like I'm watching a game from 2010😅
Yeah I'm not really impressed and it doesnt really have any character. It looks like ESO
Its an old school art style, i guess😅🤣
You have obviously not seen the graphics properly. It looks absolutely awesome, just look at the nature, the physics of falling trees while garhering, the little details like sword actually scratching the groud when hit…
graphics are the absolute least important aspect of what makes a game actually enjoyable, especially when it comes to MMOs. that's how you get BDO, looks great and everything else about it is boring as fuck.
@@martinkulich4784 They are probably watching the video in 144p
How does anyone know how the combat looks if they have not played it? It is like saying a new car drives like crap when you have never driven it.
