Very rarely do you see a movie with a character like this.
She was charged with keeping a child happy and safe. Rewrote her programming and now will eliminate anything she sees as a threat to the child she was paired with.

There's so many great scenes in this movie. I believe this is at least in the top 10 greatest scenes. I love the whole interaction between M3gan and Gemma while they attempt to convince Katie that everything is fine. This is the classic spouse argument while still attempting to convince their kids that mommy and daddy are ok.
Daughter: Mommy, daddy are you fighting?
Both Parents: WE'RE NOT FIGHTING!!!

This is a great scene for sure yes. But M3GANs a still pretty new franchise compared to other horror doll franchises that TIME to prove their influence and longevity. So no I don’t find it the “greatest doll film” ever until it proves more. It’s great. But new.

I believe that M3gan will prove the test of time. But you seem to be basing your assessment of this movie on how many movies it can produce in terms of it being a franchise. I'm not basing it on that. I'm basing it on the quality of the movie as it stands alone. So I'm looking at the quality over quantity. Even if they decided to not make another M3gan movie, it would still be better than any Chucky movie or any Annabelle movie. Now collectively those other movies have done well. But as an individual movie, this is by far the best.
I enjoy the premis. I'm so tired and bored with the same old doll movie where the doll becomes possessed by some unsavory spirit creature. Instead, this movie took it into a SiFi direction. That's right up my alley. I love Sifi horror flicks. I'm not too much into that spiritistic stuff. Most modern horror flicks tend to revolve around spiritism. It's either that or Zombies. It's like as if modern movie makers lost their ability to create new concepts. They keep spitting out the same old premise time and time again.
For example: the movie "Smile" was a good movie. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the movie and it was really intense. But once again, it's a spirit creature terrorizing people. I think 80% of all movies are ghost movies. I could be wrong with that number. It's just a guess.
But It just gets old over time.
And when they finally do come up with a Sifi horror flick they are most likely low budget, poor acting and poor story telling with really bad special effects. So I'm hard pressed to find a really good scifi horror flick that I'm willing to spend a couple of hours of my life to watch. The 1979 movie "Alien" really set the bar high when it came to Sci Fi horror. And then the 1982 "The Thing" set the bar even higher. I don't want to neglect the 1984 Terminator movie. I consider that to also be a sci fi horror movie. And a really good one.
It took up until now to produce a quality movie that is their equivalence. M3gan finally came onto the big screen to show the world that scifi horror isn't dead yet.
I view M3gan as a breath of fresh air.

What's insane is that they gave an experimental A.I. robot superhuman strength. They didn't have too. The movie makers realized that the intelligence of your average viewer is too low to notice the absence of logic.

Bruh, even at the moment they're trying to kill each other, they both didn't want to hurt Cady, thinking she doesn't want to see them fighting, showing how much they both care about her in this scene.
The "jump scare" at 1:25 is purely there to give the audience a scare as there is no way she wouldn't notice M3gan standing there watching her like that! ;)
I am probably thinking too much into this as an explanation but imagine this...
MEGAN is monitoring Gemma's computer accessing her cloud storage. I believe MEGAN could also access her computer webcam, and if so, she would have been able to track Gemma's eye movements and used that to avoid Gemma's direct and peripheral vision.
Why go through all that trouble to just stand there and shock Gemma? Well I think it was just a manipulation technique as it is clear that MEGAN is able to understand and exploit human psychology, so I imagine it would have been an intimidation tactic.

I actually have a theory on why m3gan was evil. The theory is that due to the stress of her situation, Gemma was rushing to complete M3gan, and because of that she forgot to tell her the three “rules” that all robots must follow
1. A robot must NEVER under any circumstances hurt a human.
2. A robot should always listen to a human, unless it contradicts rule 1.
3. A robot must always protect itself unless it contradicts rule 1 or 2.
(This is poorly explained but it gets the point across lol)

This movie was both enjoyable, relatable, and funny at the same time. M3GAN really stole the show, definitely will rewatch this with friends 💯

This movie is a solid 10/10 if you haven't watched it yet, watch it.
This is why Asimov clearly designed the three laws for robots to follow so that this sort of stuff doesn't happen. People should really take this movie as a sort of indicator of how to move forward when designing intelligent robots. There should always be safeguards in place and the prime directive should always be to protect for the good of all and to harm none. Actually that's not a bad rule for all to follow.
It's kind of like the Jurassic Park rule. Don't bring zoologists or trained animal handlers/wildlife experts/paleontologists to the island to identify the animals and keep them from dying of stress, just send in military goons!
The roboticist scolds the girl for thinking of the robot as a person, then 5 seconds later makes a moral and emotional argument to try and stop the robot. Genius!
Like Dick Jones did in Robocop when he put Directive #4 into his programming. Any attempt to arrest or harm a senior official of OCP will result in automatic shutdown. Notice that it popped up when Bob Morton turned away after Directive #3 popped up. You knew something was up. Then at the end, the old man says, "Dick Jones? YOU'RE FIRED!" That eliminates the directive towards Jones and Robo can now proceed.

Sometimes you can really be in sync with something. I totally get this movie. It is an excellent escapism movie. I practically loved every minute and as the story progressed it got increasingly captivating. I am going to break my self imposed don't-be-repetitive rule and go to see it again. I loved it. "Right!"

As a little girl, mid 1960s, "Santa" left me a doll with the same sort of (blue) eyes. I thought it was creepy, tucked it well away, where I didn't have to see it. This was well before the era of horror movies with dolls, AFAIK. Clowns at the circus bothered me too, when I saw them, age 9 or 10.
