  • Need to know how to change the oil on your John Deere S240 Lawn Tractor? Then join me as I change the oil on my S240 and see step by step... Watch me go from draining the engine to oil filter removal.
    Thins you'll need for changing the oil on your John Deere 200 Sport series lawn tractor:
    *Check your manual first, although I don't think it will be an issue there's some variations on parts even within the same model.*
    John Deere Oil Filter AM125424

    Filter Wrench for AM125424
    www.amazon.com...
    2X - Turf-Guard Engine Oil (Amazon was pricey for this)
    www.lowes.com/...
    Oil Container (Free Nuts Inside)
    www.target.com...
    Target changed the branding and reduced the size of the container, so go with Good & Gather Mixed nuts instead.
    Want the Holy Grail of lawn tractor oil pans? I think you can use this without removing the deck.

    I have the S220 and just did an oil change. Mine has an added hose about 10” long attached to the drain plug. So much easier to be able to get a pan under for drainage

      I just looked up your drain plug assembly on the S220. Wow, I'm jealous of how easy that is with the hose.

    Great video. Instead of paper towels, you can use foil to form a funnel to redirect the oil,

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The manufacturer recommends an oil and filter change at least once per year regardless of hours. That's what I follow.

    I just got a brand new S240 July 13, 2021 (Yesterday) My side cover is not the same as yours. On mine the side cover 8mm bolt has to be removed completely to get the cover off also the oil drain is not visible with cover in place (No Cut Out ). Is the S240 you demo a 2021 ?
    I would never tighten an oil filter with a tool, Hand tight is plenty. There must be a better way of controlling the oil filter oil, maybe a small gutter. Thanks for sharing.

      Congrats on your S240. Mine's on the older side. Maybe 4 years old, I think, but I know they do there have been slight variations over the years. I see you got the bolt in the other comment you made. I don't do much with the tool to tighten (1/4 turn tops), I hope I made that clear in the vid. If your happy with hand tight then no problem, whatever works for you. I hope to share more next week on how I messed up my deck spindle and then fixed it, so stay tuned if you want more S240 fun.

      @@DIYWithAaron Thanks, I'm still learning this S240. I had a 2002 LT150 for 20 years. One thing I noticed is the new K46 transmission does not brake when going down hill like my old one. That really got my attention ! I'll be watching for your next video.

      Having sprayed the mower deck with Fluid Film and mowed a small yard last week, today the grass wiped off with a paper towel.
      I don't know long term but it looks promising. Fluid Film has an unpleasant odor (doesn't last long) be well ventilated when applying.

    I have a 2015 model and two times I bought a Wix filter for it. They will not seal off(thought it was just a fluke)and you will lose most of your oil before you can turn the key off. Use John Deere filters or Kawasaki only.

    Aaron, How do you feel about using the wash port ? I have read pros and cons. My LT150 didn't have one.

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it hurts, but I don't think it helps much either. The only way to really clean the deck is to take it off.

      @@DIYWithAaron Most of what I've researched is that water is not good for the mower deck. Before I do any mowing I'm going to coat the underdeck with Fluid Film.

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamfrancis6993 Yeah, I've heard the more recent Deere decks aren't as good as the older ones. Coating it might help, but I'm not familiar with Fluid Film. I never really thought about it much, but maybe I should.

    Don't need to tighten oil filter more than hand tight and then you should be able to remove it by hand next time without any tools.

      Perhaps I'll try hand tight only next oil change. I always did it with that little bit of extra tightening as that was how I learned it and it's always been fine.

    General Question: How often are you all changing the oil?

    • @DIYWithAaron
      @DIYWithAaron  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to the John Deere, you should change the oil yearly or every 100 hours of operation... whichever comes first. I personally do it yearly even though I rarely get over 40 service hours. It's easy to do and is relatively cheap insurance against engine problems.
