Dude - they had no money and likely not budget. I'd say for a low budget promo this is pretty stellar - much better than just watching a band jam in a room lit really well. The idea is a beautiful one.
this was the first song i'd heard of theirs probably 10yrs ago.. though I was more fixed on the video.. then halfway through i was like "music's good too". thus the TTNG journey began, thanks to the video
i don't even know(or care) what music is popular 2day. i listen 2 a tiny bit of music from almost every genre. never dedicate solely 2 1 style or artist. there's a world of great music out there if u search hard enough. if its created with passion, its worth atleast 1 listen.
[Verse 1] I'm so sorry I'm not down tonight But all my friends have lost their minds And what's more… I'm not happy here anymore [Pre-Chorus] We should've stayed at home tonight All the bright lights and company Are not what I need [Chorus] It's just the same as it was before Same faces there to hit the floor My legs have carried me far There's still strength enough for one more So let's carry on And dance to all the same songs Like back when we were young And nights like this would fade to one [Verse 2] So let's get out of here We've done all we can This place is not dead So when will this night end? [Pre-Chorus] We'll do it all again Next Friday night This Picture-postcard modernity [Chorus] It's just the same as it was before Same faces there to hit the floor My legs have carried me far There's still strength enough for one more So let's carry on And dance to all the same songs Like back when we were young And nights like this would fade to one [Outro]
Such a simple but nostalgic music video man. Something about this old style from back in the day just feels so warm and familiar to me even though I was too young to even remember anything from it. I miss it. Wish things still felt this way
I feel like everyone who listens to math rock started off with "american football" now im not shit talking this band at all but they only have 1 e.p its 16 years old never made another album after that and has about 4 good songs on it. To me they are just average compared to the other get artists out there "Algernon cadwallader: "Grown ups" Street smart cyclists" "Snowing" "Captain jazz" "This town needs guns (TTNG) You get the point. Open your heart and soul there is beautiful music at every corner in the under ground (:
Max Land The first math-rock band i ever heard was Snowing and fucked my ears so band that now i can't stop listening to them or keep looking for more bands.
This is the most civil youtube argument I have ever seen. Thank you both for making me feel pretty good about humanity today. I will be sure to check out both your pages.
This has to be one of the most original music videos I've seen in a long looooooooooong time. I just discovered this band and they're one of my new favorites for sure.
so many memories with this specific video. literally the very first springboard for so much of my music taste today. reminds of better times... or maybe they weren't actually better and it's just rose-tinted glasses lol. whatever the case, still incredibly important to me
I dont think the song title has anything to do with the song, which goes the same for ALL their song titles. Check out their Wiki page and you'll find that the track listings contain nonsensical titles. I think its great
Great video, I mean seriously, good idea and amusingly executed. I've seen comments about this - the 26 is in reference to the closing riff (5, 5, 5, 5, 6 pattern).
Why do people on TH-cam feel the need to define the comments section as a place for constructive criticism only? This is a video website, not a goddamn workshop.
I'm no time signature expert, but I'm hearing the song in 4 sections: Section 1: 3 bars of 12, then 4 bars of 4 Section 2: 3 bars of 7, then 1 bar of 9, repeated 4 times Section 3: All in 6 Repeat all 3 sections above Section 4: 26 (or 4 bars of 5, one bar of 6, repeated)
Section 1 is all just 4 cause the last 4 is just a repeated measure Section 2 can further be subdivided into 4 then 3 for the 7s, and 5 then 4 for the 9s
@Zerocyde You have to be kidding me. This song is melodic as hell without beating you over the head with the same three chords and beat. It's the epitome of great musicianship.....intricate yet digestible.
and the time signature is also mind bending. Tim Collis is my hero how he does what he does is beyond me. These crazy tapping riffs with crazy time signatures, his technicality blows my mind
That's fair enough. The video doesn't fit perfectly with the song but it's still awesome. There won't be another video for the track. The album is coming out in September so there'll be a video for a brand new track nearer then
+Jonathan Dalili it falls under math rock/alt I guess, american football sound a bit like this but less complex, this band is quite unique, also check out toe!
It's cool man, this is the comment section not the "positive comments only" section. Your complaints are all pretty valid, I'd suggest chinchilla if you're interested in further listening (it's their best song in my opinion.
@jtv005 It doesn't work specifically that way because on measure of 14/4 or 16/4 isn't being broken evenly into sections of 7 or 4. Those 14 and 16 beat measures could easily be broken up into different sections but that would make them more complex, they would be a mixture of different small time signatures. They also generally have a different feel due to the length.
Yes - the outro sums to 26/8 (5/8 + 5/8 + 5/8 + 5/8 + 6/8). They're touring, so you should see them if you're in the UK over the next month. They've played the US a couple of times too.
I will say that the band are good friends of mine and it wasn't a decision I made lightly. I am also working on a new project with a band of my own and will be looking forward to touring with my friends in the next couple of years.Have already been to the continent with them a couple of years ago which was great fun
@Orphen01 Pythagoras*. Yes you are very true, he shaped music. I believe he also discovered and created modes. If you do your history you'd realise that some of the modes are named after ancient Greek tribes - Dorian, Ionian Aeolian.
@Ivhobbs23vI This song seems to bounce between 3/4, a quick measure of 4/4, then into a cool little 14/4 thing, and a 4/4 bit with the guitar when it goes independent. Back to 3/4, then the measure of 4/4 again, into the 3/4 again, back to the 14/4 bit which I think might be 16/4 on the last measure in order to fade itself more comfortably into the 3/4 that comes after. The really cool bit comes right here... Which is in 13/4, which could be counted as 26/8. There we go.
@xVictimOfADownx1 Their only studio album, meanwhile, is Animals. They also have a self-titled EP which can be considered an album by some, and a very early 3-song EP, but that one is fairly unknown. Hope I helped :D
@FallDownDontGetUp I heard somewhere that it has to do with the time signature it was played in. Like rather than 4/4 it was something that added up to 26 somehow. But I don't know music theory so that could be completely wrong
This is the official video. It was produced for the band to coincide with the release of the track on the Cats And Cats And Cats split CD in September 2007
Oh and yes we did pay for our recordings; there are 3 of us and we each paid a third. Only 1 of us is still in school, he had to use his saving but the other 2 of us have jobs. Can i ask what band you were asked to join? I'm also from the UK, i might know of them.
Dude - they had no money and likely not budget. I'd say for a low budget promo this is pretty stellar - much better than just watching a band jam in a room lit really well. The idea is a beautiful one.
defiantly still listening to this in 2020
this was the first song i'd heard of theirs probably 10yrs ago.. though I was more fixed on the video.. then halfway through i was like "music's good too". thus the TTNG journey began, thanks to the video
Fucking right I am
i don't even know(or care) what music is popular 2day. i listen 2 a tiny bit of music from almost every genre. never dedicate solely 2 1 style or artist. there's a world of great music out there if u search hard enough. if its created with passion, its worth atleast 1 listen.
Hell yeah
Same
Everyone who disliked thinks 4 is dancier than 26
21
This is the first song I heard by TTNG
And i've been hooked ever since.
Best band ever.
TH-cam brought
Me to their album "Animals" and I've been hooked since:)
[Verse 1]
I'm so sorry I'm not down tonight
But all my friends have lost their minds
And what's more…
I'm not happy here anymore
[Pre-Chorus]
We should've stayed at home tonight
All the bright lights and company
Are not what I need
[Chorus]
It's just the same as it was before
Same faces there to hit the floor
My legs have carried me far
There's still strength enough for one more
So let's carry on
And dance to all the same songs
Like back when we were young
And nights like this would fade to one
[Verse 2]
So let's get out of here
We've done all we can
This place is not dead
So when will this night end?
[Pre-Chorus]
We'll do it all again
Next Friday night
This Picture-postcard modernity
[Chorus]
It's just the same as it was before
Same faces there to hit the floor
My legs have carried me far
There's still strength enough for one more
So let's carry on
And dance to all the same songs
Like back when we were young
And nights like this would fade to one
[Outro]
This Band Needs Awards
Really wish this band gets more attention. They're incredibly talented!
The Mathrock Anthem!
;)
I love this song, but I feel like that title has to go to Never Meant
@@rainor771 I feel thats the midwest emo anthem, definitely mathy though.
@@talon6277 no cap, its this song or if i sit still
The Mathrock Anthem is Cut Self Not by Faraquet. Wouldn't call American Football mathrock.
"Like back when we were young, and nights like this would fade to one." So powerful.
the "nights like this would fade to one" is so incredibly true. such a strong feeling of anguish. i can't really explain it but it gets me
lovely bit of 26/8 at the end
Luca Vincent The time signature is the only reason I found this song
it's fate
Yeah, it's broken up into 4 bars of 5/8 and then one bar of 6/8.
Such a simple but nostalgic music video man. Something about this old style from back in the day just feels so warm and familiar to me even though I was too young to even remember anything from it. I miss it. Wish things still felt this way
Went from american football's "never meant" to this. Fuck yeah.
I feel like everyone who listens to math rock started off with "american football" now im not shit talking this band at all but they only have 1 e.p its 16 years old never made another album after that and has about 4 good songs on it. "Algernon cadwallader:

"Snowing"
"Captain jazz"
"This town needs guns (TTNG)

Max Land

purplepalm treeman I'm not a drug.
Max Land lol "Captain Jazz"
+Max Land I see what you mean. Any band that can help open the door to all these other great bands is still doing it right in my book, though.
I haven't heard this song til after I had already listened to animals and 13 a bunch of times and now I suddenly have a new favorite from them
26 is dancier than 4! makes sense now.
ahh usually im disappointed when i find out the meanings to song titles -- this one made me happy.
This is the most civil youtube argument I have ever seen. Thank you both for making me feel pretty good about humanity today.
I will be sure to check out both your pages.
i used to just watch this for the song and go into other tabs and stuff but i actually just watched the vid for the first time and its amazing..
This has to be one of the most original music videos I've seen in a long looooooooooong time. I just discovered this band and they're one of my new favorites for sure.

Rosy retrospection!
Same same
15 years ago already........
it took me like 3 hours to learn this song!!!! SO WORTH IT!!!
I dont think the song title has anything to do with the song, which goes the same for ALL their song titles. Check out their Wiki page and you'll find that the track listings contain nonsensical titles. I think its great

this town needs guns is just plain awesome. and what a lovely video! i'd love to see them live some time.
I'm no time signature expert, but I'm hearing the song in 4 sections:
Section 1: 3 bars of 12, then 4 bars of 4
Section 2: 3 bars of 7, then 1 bar of 9, repeated 4 times
Section 3: All in 6
Repeat all 3 sections above
Section 4: 26 (or 4 bars of 5, one bar of 6, repeated)
Section 1 is all just 4 cause the last 4 is just a repeated measure
Section 2 can further be subdivided into 4 then 3 for the 7s, and 5 then 4 for the 9s
thanks! i cant remember exactly how long as it was a while ago but i think the actual animating without any editing took about 4/5 days to do.
@Zerocyde You have to be kidding me. This song is melodic as hell without beating you over the head with the same three chords and beat. It's the epitome of great musicianship.....intricate yet digestible.
This is beatiful!
beautiful . this guy can sing the hellz shit outa dat mic
and the time signature is also mind bending. Tim Collis is my hero how he does what he does is beyond me. These crazy tapping riffs with crazy time signatures, his technicality blows my mind

I have no words to express how awesome this song is
Plain and simple, amazing music
Love them. Its been too long since i have seen them live
Revisiting this song once more, feelsgoodman.
Despite it being a total bitch to learn on guitar and drums, chris and tim are legendary
As a guitarist whi can play this I'd imagine the drums are even worse
amazing video - kept me very interested.
great band too!
I saw flyers four their show tonight. I'm glad I check them out cause now I have something to do tonight.
this has to be one of the coolest music videos ive seen :D i love it!
This is very Kinsella -like, but ya gots to love this type of songwriting. It gets me everytime.
If you’re still listening in 2021, you’re a legend
I love this sound. Whats it called? Mathrock? Nolstalgia rock?
im just asking to find more of the same type you pretentious doosh
+Jonathan Dalili Try Six Gallery, Piglet, or Maps & Atlases for more.. though there are tons, and by tons I mean more TTNG
+Jonathan Dalili it falls under math rock/alt I guess, american football sound a bit like this but less complex, this band is quite unique, also check out toe!
I love toe!
I just found a band called CHON today and fell in love, check them out on audiotree they're so tight!
LOVELY

What an awesome stuff, about music and animation I mean.
This is so amazing
This is pretty good. I constantly heard about them and have had them suggested, but I guess I just never stumbled upon them till now.
Cool.
Absolutely solid track!
Thanks, make sure to subscribe if you're digging it
One of my favorite songs
THERES STILL STRENGTH ENOUGH FOR ONE MOREEEE
This is so clever :)
purely amazing song
oh my good god these guys are mind blowing that guitar is crazy, i tried with the tabs its pretty insane
amazing video, amazing song, absolutely SICK guitar riffs.
This video exudes pure late 2000s nostalgia. It was a simpler time.
2:05 best part
Speechless...
Love the video. XD
Never heard of the band before, but it sounds good. :)
So lets carry on! And dance to all the same song's, like back when we we're young
>tfw no gf

cant decide if this is chill or cool.... what do you guys think????
Connor Wooldridge please tell me
Connor Wooldridge Chill, for sure it's chill.
Emotionally cool and chill
I was 7yrs old when this came out
This band rocked Reading tonight :)
Yes - the outro sums to 26/8 (5/8 + 5/8 + 5/8 + 5/8 + 6/8).
They're touring, so you should see them if you're in the UK over the next month. They've played the US a couple of times too.
excellent video!!!!
hell yeah, this video is at a quarter million!!

@SpennySpencie that makes perfect sense,
i was trying to figur the time signatures for ages :/
Amazing track
I Love This ! It's Adorable, Great Song Too =)
@Ivhobbs23vI

@Privvyrecords Yeah they did, excellent cover too!
@xVictimOfADownx1 Their only studio album, meanwhile, is Animals. They also have a self-titled EP which can be considered an album by some, and a very early 3-song EP, but that one is fairly unknown. Hope I helped :D
Going to see you's in Newcastle Upon Tyne!
Wow, beautiful and artistically talented.
Double Threat xD
@Ivhobbs23vI
I think it's a reference to the old phrase.
"Music does two things. It either sings or it dances"
This is amazing, probably took you a while too, but well done!
@FallDownDontGetUp I heard somewhere that it has to do with the time signature it was played in. Like rather than 4/4 it was something that added up to 26 somehow. But I don't know music theory so that could be completely wrong
@Privvyrecords Yeah. It's on their myspace!
Math is the most amazing thing, dude.
Pithagoras is the man who designed the patterns for all the music you listen to.
26 is awesome.
brilliant
my two favorite things in one: this town needs guns and stop motion. mmmm yes.
This is the official video. It was produced for the band to coincide with the release of the track on the Cats And Cats And Cats split CD in September 2007
Very Cool Video.
