X100F+converters, excellent quality, a 28-100 range in a tiny light package...my ultimate kit..I'v been travelling 5 months in South America, and that was exceptional photography experience, also thanks to this kit.
Another excellent video. The best part about this, and all your videos, is that you talk about actually using the camera in real life situations and you show lots of examples of your work. I am an X-Pro2 user, and love it, but I may add an X100F to my kit. Many thanks for posting.
Mattias, I’ve been watching your videos for some time now, raving over your reviews and photos. But I have to say, the first picture of your dog in this video (in my opinion) is one of your best shots. Amazing color, sharp focus on the eye, and so much buttery depth to the photograph. This shot truly tells a story. Good work.
I've had my X100F for a few months now finally learning to appreciate all it's built-in features. I had to get used to controls and wading through the menu options and being careful where I place my fingers so as to not accidentally change settings. It is turning into the perfect 'travel companion'; a great 'grab and shoot' camera that I'm learning to trust. Don't miss interchangeable lenses at all..for my purposes the built-in digital zoom options work just fine. And when I want to enhance effects like using a polarizing filter that works great too..purchased the adapter ring available from Fujifilm to enable mounting of 49mm filters and a 49-52 mm step-up ring to allow me to use my 52mm diameter filters and a Cokin 52 mm filter holder if I want. It can be a simple point and shoot camera or as versatile as you want. And it just looks cool.
I watch almost every camera video on youtube, somth very sweet about this one; the mood, the genuine opinion and i guess the absence of "wana do a review video with detailed specs". Even if i had to search for its specs such as mic input or headphone jack, it gave me a very clear idea of the spirit of shooting with that camera. Much respect.
Just won one on ebay....also just won an x pro2....i own an x t2.....bought an x e2 on my last trip to LA....not sure how I'm going to explain this to my wife
The camera quite simply is a classic. I find it makes me just want to take more photos as the results are always great.... The best bit of everyday kit I think you can buy. I've had mine for two years and it's been reliable, user friendly and beautiful to look at. Did I mention I love it!?
Splendid music on this! Wonderful composition! And a mouth-watering camera too in the X-100f. I'm a die hard - and very happy - Nikon D7100 shooter myself, but this is a lovely little camera! Excellent review!
I had an x100 "classic", and, already at f2.8, it is much sharper than wide open. At f2, it is really soft. Anyway, a nice and quirky little camera with good image quality. The f version must be light years ahead.
Another really lovely video, great premise and execution, with a collection of amazing images to end with. A delight. Oh, yes, and the stirring music is a great acompliment too. Thanks Matthias.
Really detailed, I owned a Sony A6000 and the rear screen started messing up so I no longer trust Sony cameras. Both my Olympus and Fuji cameras seem to be as trustworthy as my old Canon DSLR.
Your videos are always amazing! I was going to by the “T” but I ended up ordering the “F” preowned for a pretty good deal with extra batteries and hood and filter so I ordered it.
I love your* photo eye! (* and your wife's - I think that was her reflection in one shot) I now know why you chose your dog: Willing model and portable dynamic range test! Thanks for sharing, once again!
Man you deserve 1 million subscribers. I watched this video second time, i will watch 3rd, 4th. Btw your videos made me buy X100T. Thanks a lot for all these movie like videos.
Damn, been using x100f for many years. Since it's out and till now and still using. Really like it as a camera. But x-pro is tempting with interchangeable lenses and weather sealing ... Trying to come up with reasons not to get second fuji ^^
Just got a x100f in the eve of the v's launch, while the v would have be nice I got a f for MUCH less as people jump ship, I love it and have no regrets :)
I still find Fuji X-T20 is a better choice. With 27mm 2.8 is even more compact than X-100F. And a lot of flexiebler because of objectively changing and swiveling display.
Hey, I've been using the X-T20 for a few weeks now. Its a great camera, even though I reach for my X-Pro2 more often. The tilt screen is nice and so is the size. But... it is not more compact than the x100f. Even with a pancake. And its unbalanced and more uncomfortable. If I add the extra grip for the X-T20 its ok to hold, but then its even bigger. But still, a nice camera for sure and I might review it soon.
Having owned the X100, X100s and X100T I managed to try the X100F before it's general release and remember commenting on the focusing, I didn't think it was consistant. I later bought an X100F and found that I was getting a lot of out of focus shots when zone focusing, I even put a band around the focus ring to prevent it moving but that didn't work. The focus issue was fixed with a firmware upgrade but I had sold the camera by then and went back to the X100T. I now shoot street with a Ricoh GRII but would not hesitate in recommending the X100T. Fill in flash is simpler with the X100T too.
Even after the update the zone can still wonder. Its a common Fuji issue. The WR lenses has the same problem. The old 18mm, 35/1.4 and the X70 don't have the issue.
Sharing the same battery type as in the X series bodies with interchangeable lenses is also a good reason to go for the F. X70/X100/X100S/X100Т use other batteries.
I love your reviews. How about a review of Fuji x-m1 ? It has tilting screen, interchangeable lens, great sensor, aperture and exposure-compensation can be changed with wheels. It’s small, lightweight and with a Fuji 18mm f2 lens it’s a stealth street camera. The x-m1 gets bypassed by reviewers. And cheap to buy….
Mathias knows how to use the light, and how to compose a picture. Then, a lot of editing on Lightroom, and that's it. Some pictures seems to have been taken with a flash (1min35).
Not mentioned in this video is the electronic zoom. While it is an electronic zoom whereby at 35mm (shown in the viewfinder as 50mm giving the nod to the world of FF) at 50mm it crops the image down to 12meg, but unlike other cameras with electronic zoom, Fuji reconstitutes the image file back to 24 megapixels. This is an image improvement over other E-crop cameras, but a definite compromise to an optical zoom lens. But that considered, the option makes this camera - in my humble street shooting opinion - the premier street camera out there when one just wants a camera with them but is not going out specifically on a hunt. When I do that I carry an X-T3 with a 35mm Fujicron f2.0 with the 50mm in my pocket. For the next generation (if there is one given the market these days) I would hope for a faster lens (f1.7 would be nice) that also focuses faster and a better EVF. Other than that, don't screw with it. No bells no whistles not tilty this or that. But I'm quite happy with this one, as I was with the T, actually. It is fast enough to capture everything a street shooting should at least be interested in...the story. This is NOT a landscape or video camera. An don't ask Fuji to make it that. If that's what you want...GO ELSEWHERE. For anyone thinking about getting a Leica M10 with a 35mm Summicron, get this more advance, hugely lighter and more discrete camera and send your kids to college or something instead. What good is a red dot if it gets you mugged? If Fuji produces an X-Pro 3 without the really stupid looking dip on the dial deck that makes it look like someone stepped on it I might...MIGHT...consider one of those - assuming they offer it in silver AND a silver that matches the now four Fujicron lenses. (what a concept). Not matching the silver of both body and lens is really B league stuff. What is up with that, Fuji??? Yes, aesthetics matter. Get your shit together.
Hi Matthias thanks again for a lovely video. Inspired by your Sigma DP1 video I went out too buy a Nikon D80. It's in great condition and has a 10mp CCD sensor. There is no video of course and the top good ISO is 800 after that don't both. So why bother buying an old camera and to me the wonderful X100f sums it up. It's almost to easy and the pictures are almost too sharp that you loose all the soul of the image. I am probably talking rubbish but the Nikon D80 will probably teach me more about photography because of the limitations. For the record I also think the X100F will be one of the great cameras so don't think I have a thing about Fuji. For the record I use a Nikon F50. Olympus muj 2, Nikon ftn, Yashica medium format. Panasonic GX7, Canon G16, Nikon Coolpix A and finally Nikon D5300. One mistake I did make was to sell my D7100. Many thanks.
I'm doing an internship at a video and photo production company and my mentor uses a Nikon D3 with an 1980s Nikkor 35mm 2.8. He bought the Nikon used for a 10th of the original price and the Nikkor for 50-60€. What's even more shocking is that the Nikon is a replacement for a Sony a7 haha. He used that as well with the Nikkor and boy, this combination was delivering sharp images with the best colours I have ever seen.
I own the original x100 and I wish that fuji would update the lens on the next version. I can live with the softness when wide open, but it could be much better.
I ended up getting a black x100 on eBay a few days ago at a ridiculously cheap price and the image quality is just fantastic! Really enjoying it so far
If you already have the X70 you already have a small pocket camera. Then your bigger camera could be as big as it likes. So imo, X-Pro2. The X70 will also act as your wide angle lens.
Great video as always!! I like what Fuji has done with their system for street shooters. In honesty though, any camera today will do. The comfort level and knowing your camera are what's important. I personally shoot with my small apsc Pentax system with pancake lenses and this is a great system that gets little attention. Fully weather sealed, built in shake reduction and amazingly sharp lenses that are super small, lightweight and of pro standards in every respect. Too bad Ricoh/Pentax does little to no marketing.
I like your dog a lot. If I buy one of these Fuji cameras using one of the provided links, will it come with a free dog like this, or do you just get a t-shirt with a picture of this dog on it? To put it in a simpler way, can I have your dog?
as always, thanks for sharing your thoughts and wonderful images. i have long been a fan since your blackmagic pocket days, a camera that i thoroughly enjoyed and used for my video work. i have seen your continued interest in the fuji line of cameras. i presently shoot with a panasonic g7 which offers some nice 4k video along with a m43 body i enjoy taking everywhere for stills. but i am intrigued by the images from your fuji. i have been tempted by the x70 and x100 lineup as a discreet walk about. my question: is there any value in looking at the X-E2s? i was thinking as a low cost entry into fuji land, the older body with updated firmware offers many attributes of the xt1. thoughts? as a subscriber, i look forward to your continued postings. be well ;-)
+smalltalk.productions Yeah I would definitely consider a X-E2s. The X-E3 will be announced shortly and should lower the prices on earlier models. A uses X100t is also a good option.
Bought an X100S on pre-order in 2013. Ended up trying two of them with the TCL on one and the WCL on the other. Just recently sold both of the cameras and the auxiliary lenses to go to the X-Pro2 and the XF 35mm f2 WR lens. Don't know if I will add lenses (not currently planning on it) but wanted the better options that the X-Pro provides like weather sealing. I could just never get along with the limitations of the leaf shutter's speed limitations (1/1000 sec when shooting at f2). I came from Nikon DSLRs for work (newspaper) and the X-Pro provides me with what I want in a camera. Just my $0.02 worth.
@@gearreallydoesntmatter Good to know but X-Pro2 has a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. On the X100S, the top shutter speed at f2 was restricted to 1/1000 second. Is the lens on the X100V weather sealed? The front element of the X100S moved in and out to focus so weather sealing wasn't an option. In looking at the X100V user manual I also see Fuji updated the battery level indicator which is a good thing. Thanks for the info.
Great video. There actually is a downside to the viewfinder on the x100f compared to the xpro2. The x100f has less diopter adjustment, so if you have bad eyes you may be able to see with the xpro2 and not the x100f.
Rado Tej Well, I use primes for everything. Landscapes, sports, portrait, animals, nature, birds, you name it :) But I get that not everyone does. Its good that all are different :)
Great video Mattias. Right now I'm trying to decide between the X100F + WCL + TCL or the X-Pro2 + 35/2 + 18/2. The second setup is much more expensive but I was wondering if you think there are major differences between those two setups?
Can x70 compete against x100f/xt20 for IQ? I want to buy "cheap" pocketable camera to carry around. Now I have xt20 and I love the images out of it. I'm afraid I will be disappointed if I buy x70.
Any plans on having another phone camera? I never plan to purchase any of these point and shoots but I watch because you do such a great job in reviewing and showing your pictures (mostly of your dog) lol
I still have some trouble getting over the way Fuji handled the "Suzuki Gate". But Im getting there and have bought a Fuji camera again. If I get the x100v it will probably be earliest at the end of summer.
Mattias Burling Well... at your leisure. It’s already clear that you deliver true honest yet humbling opinions of your experience with camera’s. In other words your approach is unique and greatly appreciated. Well with that being said... have a great day! And like you always say.... “Thank you for always watching and GOOD-BYE!!!”. 😉
Great review. As much as I would love to purchase the x100f I think I will stick with the 100t for a bit longer. The upgrades, though very much welcomed and improved, especially the larger battery capacity, still isn't enough of a motivation and rational personally, to grab one. When upgrading I always like to do so with the approach question "will it help me to improve my photography" and frankly it won't. And besides that price at this time is still a high. I would have loved for them to introduce a real manual focus as to opposed to the focus by wire, I think that would have been really nice as well a different lens that wasn't so soft wide open at least not so much in the center. Otherwise it's a good camera just like it's predecessor
Mattias Burling I definitely second that thought. It would be a great street camera! Have to admit the 35mm equivalent is a favorite focal length for shooting and combining the two would be killer. A tilt screen I rarely use but it sure is handy when you have one especially for some low perspectives shots.
scias23 I always shoot raw only. I mostly use Adobe standard but sometimes I use the film simulations as well. I guess Classic Chrome is still my favorite.
Elliot Resnick Its smaller than all of them. But it might still be so big that you will use a bag anyway. Depends on how cold it gets and how big of a jacket you have. The X70 or Ricoh GRii would go anywhere.
Despite all the pros it has, for me and I think for some people as well, the two maim drawbacks are the fixed lens which means once is broken the camera is finished and of course the fixed screen...
Firstly Mattias, your pictures are absolutely beautiful! Really can tell that you love taking pictures. Secondly, I need your advice. I love taking pictures but so far only on my smartphone. I am looking to buy a camera and I'm coinciding it with my road trip to Las Vegas and California. I an unsure on 3 cameras: - Ricoh GR ii - Panasonic TZ100 and; - Fujifilm X100f. First time buyer, would like a camera for all purposes (street, portrait and landscape - can't miss those Californian sunsets). I would probably use this camera for a long time. Which one would you recommend?
Personally I would get the GRii. It will be kinda like your smartphone regarding how much is in the picture. If you are fine with that focal length it is a very nice choice.
Nearly sold me.. But my m6 with 22mm and kit zoom in my pocket is not worth changing from, for my hobbiest hybrid needs. Would like to see you review it, I got it very cheap on ebay and I think does everything well. Is a small enough system to boot.
Seems like a great camera but why would you get it instead of the xt20? Not sure the leaf shutter is too important to amateurs like me and changing lenses is huge...
The x100f has the hybrid viewfinder. Not necessarily better than the xt20, just a different style. Also, the x100 series frequently serves as secondary camera for people who usually shoot with big DSLRs or pro mirrorless cameras , which already handles the interchangeable lens situation.
I think that the X100F being an all-around camera also implies that you don't need much of anything else like additional lenses. That, to me, is exactly what this camera does. Everything is, sort of, in camera, like having the ND filter, hybrid viewfinder and the digital in-camera crop view, a.k.a digital teleconverter, that lets you shoot at 50mm and 70mm. This camera invites a different shooting style: casual, relaxed and slow paced.
Both are great. But the EVF and size would be enough for me to take the X100f over the X-T20. But thats mostly because I have an X-Pro2 that I choose over the X-T20.
Great review and wonderful photographs. I'm wondering, does this camera use the same quality of optics for the 23 mm 2.0 lens marketed for the X-T2 and X-Pro 2?

Hahaha bruh I literally wanna buy every fuji
especially when someone makes a video about it and endorses it!! makes me wanna buy
Me too, I’m a camera enthusiast.
I love how you take so many overlooked older cameras and remind us how every one of them can take beautiful photos!
I swear to god you can convince me to buy just about anything.

Just won one on ebay....also just won an x pro2....i own an x t2.....bought an x e2 on my last trip to LA....not sure how I'm going to explain this to my wife
Mr P lol :)
You tell your wife you found it on a park bench . I'm so good at lying to my wife when I'm telling her the truth I think I'm lying .
Im sorry for this...I am sympathetic with no suggestion....or just sell them all but X100F, and buy two tickets to Bali :-)
You'll have to explain one less camera if you give me one ;')
The X100 is one of my most favorite cameras of all time. Thanks so much for your insights and sharing. Great videos!!
You have a great taste in music
I just got into the Fujifilm cameras with the XT20. I love the vintage feel and look of the Fujifilm camera and love your videos.
One of the best cameras I've ever owned.
totally agree.. and still keeping my x100t since it is still very capable and great camera indeed!

Im with you. I love being old digital cameras that still have a lot of life left in them. So much fun.
He used that as well with the Nikkor and boy, this combination was delivering sharp images with the best colours I have ever seen.
watching this today makes me miss Krut so much..
Love your videos, music and content. You're a great communicator. Wish you would teach a few photographic techniques that you have. Thanks
I own the original x100 and I wish that fuji would update the lens on the next version. I can live with the softness when wide open, but it could be much better.
Unfortunately even their 23mm f2 WR Prime lens fro the XF system is kinda soft wide open. So its probably not that easy for them.
A very happy New year to all of you!!
Please make a video " 5 reasons to buy a Fuji x100s" in 2017.
Mind. Art. Creativity. Im thinking more about the original x100 :)
I ended up getting a black x100 on eBay a few days ago at a ridiculously cheap price and the image quality is just fantastic! Really enjoying it so far
Gotta say, your photos on the X100f are far better than the photos I've seen you take on the X70. This video has helped me make up my mind, thank you.
Thank you so much! Now you convinced me of buying this camera. :)
I'd love to know where you get your wrist straps, especially the one for the x100f! That strap looks so good for it!
It was from eBay, nothing fancy. The others I have are all Gordy straps.
I have the X70, i saw your vídeo review to decide to keep It. Now i'm between the X100F and the XPro2, i couldn't decide yet...
For me the feel when using it is pretty much the only thing that really matters.
Loving your Philosophy Mattias!
I love small compact high power cameras👍🏿
Thanks for all the information. Made my decision a little bit easier.
X-Pro2 is nice. X100v has a faster shutter wide open and is weather sealed so that would also had been an option.
The X100v can go much faster wide open than the early models.
Great video. There actually is a downside to the viewfinder on the x100f compared to the xpro2. The x100f has less diopter adjustment, so if you have bad eyes you may be able to see with the xpro2 and not the x100f.
Gregory Royar Yup, but then there is also a downside to the diopter on the xpro2. The strap constantly switches it :)
I put gaff tape over mine. Never moves. I have both the xpro2 and x100f. Both great cameras.
Great video! Are you using the same lens the camera came with to get those nice blurred background shots of the dog?
Personality Jar its a fixed lens, you can't change it.
Is there any chance you would make spotify playlist with music u listen to or use in videos? I would love that! Also thanks for the great review,
thanks for video, I just could not call fixed lens camera, "jack of all trades and all-around camera", but rest was spot on.. :)
Rado Tej Well, I use primes for everything. Landscapes, sports, portrait, animals, nature, birds, you name it :)
But I get that not everyone does.
Its good that all are different :)
Great video Mattias.
Right now I'm trying to decide between the X100F + WCL + TCL or the X-Pro2 + 35/2 + 18/2.
The second setup is much more expensive but I was wondering if you think there are major differences between those two setups?
+SunriseInTheMidwest The ability to swsp lenses is a big deal. You are looking at a bigger camera though.
Can x70 compete against x100f/xt20 for IQ? I want to buy "cheap" pocketable camera to carry around. Now I have xt20 and I love the images out of it. I'm afraid I will be disappointed if I buy x70.
I agree with French Fries! Please create a tutorial video on how to take photos similar to the ones on this video using the Fuji Film X100F ^_^
Any plans on having another phone camera?
I never plan to purchase any of these point and shoots but I watch because you do such a great job in reviewing and showing your pictures (mostly of your dog) lol
I have a smartphone that I enjoy but its camera is pretty weak.
The CM1 is the only phone that imo is up to the task of being a main camera.
I am waiting for your review & perspective on the Fuji X100V. See your video soon! Thank you. 😇
Raoul Simon I think a snap focus mode like on the GRii and a tilt screen would have been killer. Then I would just have to own it.
Mattias Burling I definitely second that thought. It would be a great street camera! Have to admit the 35mm equivalent is a favorite focal length for shooting and combining the two would be killer. A tilt screen I rarely use but it sure is handy when you have one especially for some low perspectives shots.
Can I change lenses on X pro 100? If not, isn't it a huge limitation looking at it's high cost?
Do you always edit your photos, or go SOOC sometimes? I'm wondering which film simulation you prefer
scias23 I always shoot raw only. I mostly use Adobe standard but sometimes I use the film simulations as well. I guess Classic Chrome is still my favorite.
Great video!!What do think is a better companion camera to an X-T2, X-Pro2 or X100F?
Elliot Resnick Its smaller than all of them. But it might still be so big that you will use a bag anyway. Depends on how cold it gets and how big of a jacket you have. The X70 or Ricoh GRii would go anywhere.
Great video! And I love your dog!
Fantastic photos!
Great Video. I was very impressed of your quality. With this video you get my like and abo. Well Done !
Hi!
Does the OVF give the real perspective as a normal eye? Can it be used with the second eye opened to have a stereo image of the world?
Thanks
CatDude, not really, the image in the OVF is not 1:1, more like 0.5x. I really wish it was.
"Stereo image of the world" ... nice!!
Fujifilm has become the new Nikon. Now, I’d probably have to go with the X-T30, for its versatility and different lenses that U could use.
Hello Mattias, thanks for lovely different videos on TH-cam. Have you reviewed Sony RX100 M3 or Lumix lx100? Which one is better out of two?
Ive had both and have a review of the Lx100 on my channel. I would pick the one who's size I liked the best.
Despite all the pros it has, for me and I think for some people as well, the two maim drawbacks are the fixed lens which means once is broken the camera is finished and of course the fixed screen...
Both of which a lot of people put as positives. Luckily there are choices.
I an unsure on 3 cameras:
- Ricoh GR ii
- Panasonic TZ100 and;
- Fujifilm X100f.
Thank you Mattias!
Would you recommend this over the LX100 mark II?
I think I might be able to get an X pro2 body and four batteries.. 600. Or wait for gr3.. So torn
Lovely Little camera
Nearly sold me.. But my m6 with 22mm and kit zoom in my pocket is not worth changing from, for my hobbiest hybrid needs. Would like to see you review it, I got it very cheap on ebay and I think does everything well. Is a small enough system to boot.
Had it, sold it. It's a nice camera but not a keeper for me. I have reviewed the EOS-M.
Do you think is it worth extra money to buy used X100F than X100T?
Another awesome video! Please, can you tell me what kind of wrist strap is on this X-100F?
Michael Torres just a generic one from eBay. Im glad you enjoyed the video.
I would like to hear comments on how good the flash system is and speed of focusing compared to older models. Thanks
Marco A. Casco faster. On both questions.
Still got the original X100, love it.
Do use Kipon adaptors on Sony A7 with Voigtlanders.
BTW are you Swedish?
Kris Chan I see your point but I think I'd still rather take my chances with an xt20 and a 23f2 slapped on it and keep my options open.
Both are great. But the EVF and size would be enough for me to take the X100f over the X-T20. But thats mostly because I have an X-Pro2 that I choose over the X-T20.
Great review and wonderful photographs. I'm wondering, does this camera use the same quality of optics for the 23 mm 2.0 lens marketed for the X-T2 and X-Pro 2?
yankeeshogun unfortunately no. It is a much softer lens.
