I reach for my Ricoh more than any other camera I own. It’s so compact, can be operated with one hand, and takes amazing pictures. It’s a perfect camera, in my opinion.
Me me me .... but the prices are then multiplied by the MB factor. Ricoh GR 2 = €40 on ebay × the MB factor = €200. I love this video ... Who said Swedes don't have the best sense of humour in the world.
I've been studying which digital camera to buy for the last few months. As an engineer, I'm very meticulous about specs. This is the first review I've seen that moves away from specs and humanizes the camera to be more than just a tool for capturing light. It's completely changed my approach from the spread sheet I was building. Thank you!
That Ricoh GR II opened my eyes to a lot once I owned that. They do need a GR III to catch up with more tech, but thats one of the greatest street cams of all time.
I love my GR 2 and everytime i think about purchasing a new camera, I still fall back to my GR. If only it can produce high quality shots in lowlight, i wouldnt even care about other cameras
In December, I gave my Ricoh GRII to a friend who was just getting started in photography. It was a tough decision to do so. Three months later I missed my GRII so badly, I ordered a replacement. It arrived today and I’m charging the battery now. Can’t wait to shoot with it again!
Considering the age, the price, and the lack of popularity of that Sigma, I think it is actually the most impressive. I mean, its an old, cheap, compact Sigma! And yet look at how well it hangs with the more expensive, more popular, and newer cameras. I need to buy a Sigma at some point, just to try it out.
The Ricoh GR is the camera that dethroned my Canon 7d with 16-35mm L glass. It is by far the best camera because it's great and its always with you, and it also has a superior IQ to my 7d and the images are fantastic
I have been shooting for some years but never had a good compact camera for everyday use. After watching this video and tried some cameras, I went to buy a Leica X-E. It have been a month and I am so amazed by its color and the quality of the lens, not to mention its sublime build quality and controls.
Sodacake I’ve had one for over a year. Owned many different camera setups and this one is by far the best I have ever owned! You won’t go wrong with a Ricoh
I think the main lesson here is that it is difficult in 2017 to buy a BAD camera. There are just so many GOOD cameras that if you basically put their pictures up on a wall and through a dart while blindfolded you would end up with an excellent camera... or a broken window...
I watched your x70 and GR comparison video many times before deciding on the GR. It's probably my most used camera since, so small & light, easy to use one handed, great IQ. I thought I might find the 28mm focal length limiting, but I love it!! Glad to see you still hold the GR in high regard :)
I traded my Richo GRII with Fuji X70 because I got tired of the dust problem which plagued the previous generation of GR. I have to say, not a second go by that I don't miss the GRII. The image quality, the ease of use, the portability, the snap focus... all regrettably nullified by its archilles' heel.
The dust is a bummer. But I can live with it. Warranty covers it and after that it doesn't cost much more to clean than other cameras. They all get dust eventually.
I have to say, GRII's build quality is better. And I used the tilt/touch screen much less than I thought I would. Using tilt just slows down way too much. It makes shooting X70 more like a regular camera than a specialized Ninja. If one can live with the dust problem, then GRII has no real competition.
Jjust watched this, 6 years later, and found the ending hilarious! I have had the GR-ii for a long time now and I am continually impressed by its performance.
I love my fujifilm x70, sure it might not have the mojo “acros” film simulation but it’s my everyday pocket camera and family camera too... also good in urban landscape. I giving it 150pt
You have taken the lead for the best reviews i've seen in a long time. In an age of everyone wanting attention with snappier videos and quirks. What a lovely authentic way my man :) and thank you. Will be buying my first camera ever at 28 just to fulfil a hobby and my love for aesthetics. Fallen for the Ricoh, with having no idea of this brand 24 hours prior to this day. This day will be dedicated to RICOH GR II.
Mattias Burling Would you recommend getting a used one or go all out and get brand new one? Also do you have any used portal recommendations, i am pretty sure i saw someone comment about visiting ebay post watching your videos :)
Bryce Dearden In all honesty.. the Ricoh won the main event and is the one I would choose if I for some reason had to. The ending is just to make sure people get that reviews like this are always subjective. They are all good depending on what is important to the shooter. All cameras are.
i've just switched from a ricoh gr (1) to fuji x100f. i used the ricoh for 5 years and absolutely loved it. the only problem was reliability. the lens barrel has stuck on me three times so far, expensive repairs meant i have ended up paying for a whole other camera in the years i've used it. looking around the net i don't see too many complaints about this issue though, so maybe i got a dud piece. it's on intermittent freeze now, with the camera sticking on startup with the lens barrel out, and i've sometimes spent up to an hour removing the battery, simultaneously pressing the shutter on start up etc. unreliable. so it's fuji from here on. i went for the x100f over the x70 mainly for the sensor. here's hoping lumping out the extra cash is worth it. any tips on addressing the ricoh problem would be much appreciated, i still love that camera!
I don't enjoy 28mm focal length that much... so I have to get a hoodie with bigger pockets :D Used to have the Ricoh GR II, sold it for a X100T that I love. Fun video.
After watching your channel, I sold my Mirrorless and forget the RX100 series. Now I am focusing on the APS-C point and shoot cameras. My next target is leica x1 or x2 since 28mm seems too wide for me.
Mattias the camera troll, i imagined you would pick all of them, in the end each camera performs extremely good. Great video, i had a good laugh at the end, keep up the great work!!
I am a pro (veteran) and the GR is the camera I use for personal work. Wins on all fronts (size, adaptability, features, build, output). Make it 36+mp please!! My work cameras are D850 & D4s
I like what you do and the way you do it. As i see it you are one of the best street photographers in here. Thanks for shering! You inspire people in a time where we thruly need it!
My pick would be the Leica X1. I bought this one based on your excellent video, and I have been incredibly happy with it. It is super pocketable, inexpensive, good looking and has great IQ.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about how the screens perform in bright conditions. The the lack of a viewfinder has always made me weary with these compact cameras.
Will there ever be a Ricoh GRII successor? With some minor improvements, it could be THE camera is was looking for (to me it's the closest thing to the things I like about something like a Ricoh GR1v, with the ease of the modern digital era opposed to shooting film).
Well, it's anybody's guess. All I know is... it was on sale during Black Friday... and I found it too hard to resist. Just gotta get some sort of additional lens cap now.

Haaaaa the ending :D
Great vid as always! Who else browses eBay after watching Mattias' videos?! :D
Damian Brown There is nothing to see on eBay folks.. move along... ;)
Damian Brown me lol
Me me me .... but the prices are then multiplied by the MB factor. Ricoh GR 2 = €40 on ebay × the MB factor = €200. I love this video ... Who said Swedes don't have the best sense of humour in the world.
so true. trying to bid x100t, plz don't bid against me :)

So what did you get in the end? :)
If there was a comparison review of comparison reviews you'd win, comparatively speaking.
Comparatively, this comment has way too many comparisons in it
Haha. Results were shocking. Can't wait for the "What if I had to pick only one FILM camera" episode.
Does Mattias even shoot film?
Dj Toman well yes if you watch his videos. Develops it too.
+1 for this. I'm curious!
How to import videos from your camera
Ricoh film camera maybe.
That Ricoh GR II opened my eyes to a lot once I owned that. They do need a GR III to catch up with more tech, but thats one of the greatest street cams of all time.
Eric Rossi I love the Ricoh Gr too!
I love my GR 2 and everytime i think about purchasing a new camera, I still fall back to my GR. If only it can produce high quality shots in lowlight, i wouldnt even care about other cameras
Have you looked for a flash you can mount on the camera?
GRIII - 24MP, 28F2, same design. Take my money.
In December, I gave my Ricoh GRII to a friend who was just getting started in photography. It was a tough decision to do so. Three months later I missed my GRII so badly, I ordered a replacement. It arrived today and I’m charging the battery now. Can’t wait to shoot with it again!
Loved the ending! But most of all i love how personal your videos really are. Thanks so much. Rob
One of your best videos ever! :) Loved the ending.
The Post Color Blog I agree
You're saying this because you didn't see the Nokia Lumia review... The one was and still is the best review ever made, period.
you made me buy a Ricoh GR, you monster. i love it! thank you. :)
I love what you did in the end. Just choose the one most comfortable to use
You are a gem, of all the TH-cam camera reviewers you take the best pics by far.

you had me Rolling on the floor with that ending , fantastic video as always Mattias
Time to buy the god damn Ricoh.
Sodacake I’ve had one for over a year. Owned many different camera setups and this one is by far the best I have ever owned! You won’t go wrong with a Ricoh
the best digital camera I ever owned, youll love it
the longest camera i've ever owned.
I am getting myself one for Christmas :)
I love my Ricoh. Great camera and fantastic images.
Love your reviews, always on point and always humorous and always refreshing! Thank you!
Your rating system at the end is so hilarious! (but also on point, as it is a subjective test). You did make me consider the Ricoh, thanks!
I think the main lesson here is that it is difficult in 2017 to buy a BAD camera. There are just so many GOOD cameras that if you basically put their pictures up on a wall and through a dart while blindfolded you would end up with an excellent camera... or a broken window...
heyy thanks for posting this literally a day after i bought my ricoh

Yes I also like the Fuji with better build and TILT SCREEN
The dust is a bummer. But I can live with it. Warranty covers it and after that it doesn't cost much more to clean than other cameras. They all get dust eventually.
The tilt screen is nice. But its a shame I cant agree with the build. Its mostly plastic.
I have to say, GRII's build quality is better. And I used the tilt/touch screen much less than I thought I would. Using tilt just slows down way too much. It makes shooting X70 more like a regular camera than a specialized Ninja. If one can live with the dust problem, then GRII has no real competition.
Mattias that was one the most heart felt and humorous reviews I have seen. Many thanks for sharing, keep up the good work.
Jjust watched this, 6 years later, and found the ending hilarious! I have had the GR-ii for a long time now and I am continually impressed by its performance.
I knew this was gonna be - If I could only pick one camera, it would be these four :)
Still my all time favourite TH-cam video ... Mattias you're the best when it comes to reviews on old or new cameras.
My girldfirend was looking a replacement for a GR 2 that she love (the old one released in 2009).. so it will be the GR2 (the new one).
the naming scheme on those things is so confusing... makes it impossible to search for the correct one on ebay
@@Kylemsguy yes. I thought someone was scanning me
Brilliant, brilliant conclusion!
Love the ending! Thanks for putting the Ricoh GRII on my radar, I'm jumping ship from a Canon 1000D and checking out what else is out there.
You crack me up. I just loved the ending. Also looking forward to the film camera version.
I love my fujifilm x70, sure it might not have the mojo “acros” film simulation but it’s my everyday pocket camera and family camera too... also good in urban landscape.
I giving it 150pt
This video is 4 years old, and it’s a fantastic review.
Brilliantly done Matthias. Enjoyed this a great deal.

Prabal Panjabi The GR rocks! :)
Mattias Burling Would you recommend getting a used one or go all out and get brand new one? Also do you have any used portal recommendations, i am pretty sure i saw someone comment about visiting ebay post watching your videos :)
I saw the troll at the end coming but I'm okay with it
Bryce Dearden In all honesty.. the Ricoh won the main event and is the one I would choose if I for some reason had to.
The ending is just to make sure people get that reviews like this are always subjective. They are all good depending on what is important to the shooter.
All cameras are.
I saw it at the very beginning
RX1 for me. I'm so in love with mine...
But I like the Ricoh as well. Especially the user interface is quite intuitive.

I am addicted to camera reviews. This is the best one I have seen. And I have seen at least 5000.
I will smile with that ending for the rest of the evening.
Hahaha what a genuinely warm, funny, informative video. Top marks to you sir and that makes you the winnest !
Damn, I've got an early start tomorrow. But I can't say no to this notification!
Haha was expecting the twist at the end. Great video as always.
Amazing. Subbed. Also, really nice music switch at the beginning. Your editing is outstanding.
Thanks for the video Matt!
Fantastic - wasn't expecting that finale:)
I don't enjoy 28mm focal length that much... so I have to get a hoodie with bigger pockets :D Used to have the Ricoh GR II, sold it for a X100T that I love. Fun video.
Excellent reasoning throughout!
After watching your channel, I sold my Mirrorless and forget the RX100 series. Now I am focusing on the APS-C point and shoot cameras. My next target is leica x1 or x2 since 28mm seems too wide for me.
You got me on that ending .. very very nice video as always.
Great review.
Can't believe the results!
What are the odds!
That ending sums up what is wrong with modern camera reviews. Loved it! Keep up the good work Mattias :D
This was fun. Thanks man, more ties please ! The process is on point to help me buy one of those
Hahaha... excellent final results! They are all great cameras in fairness... I'd love to pick up an X70 as a 'bring everywhere in my pocket' camera.
This video is a piece of art, I laughed a lot. Standing ovation for Matias.
Anyway I want a Ricoh now.
2 seconds into this video and I had to press the thumbs up button. Finally a new video and such a good one.
OMG, lolz! the ending! Fabulous. I was cheering for x70
I got tired of DSLR, so I changed it for x100 and then x70. Love the flip screen, but sometimes I miss the ND filter
This video really put a smile on my face! Well done!
Ricoh is the best camera I have ever owned, and I have owned (and own) many
That ending with a twist... Awesome!
My Ricoh was stolen, and there has been a void in my heart ever since :(
Dude! Awesome video! The ending was gold!
Mattias the camera troll, i imagined you would pick all of them, in the end each camera performs extremely good. Great video, i had a good laugh at the end, keep up the great work!!
Lenys Vasquez In reality I didn't pick all of them. The extra points where just so the fanboys would back of ;)
Brilliant ending and very entertaining !!
definitely did not expect the ending
I'm dying at the end🤣
Nice video and humor sir!
I loved the ending .... saw that coming a mile off. Great video as always.
What a marvellous vid. 100 points for just being the best vid on TH-cam.
I love your approach.
L love love love this video!!! Especially the result calculation at the end. It is perfect logic in my opinion.
I am a pro (veteran) and the GR is the camera I use for personal work. Wins on all fronts (size, adaptability, features, build, output). Make it 36+mp please!! My work cameras are D850 & D4s
Loved this comparison, loved the scoring punchlines at the end, happy subscriber
Genius ending! Love your videos!!
I like what you do and the way you do it. As i see it you are one of the best street photographers in here. Thanks for shering! You inspire people in a time where we thruly need it!
Very kind of you :)
LMAO exactly how I end up judging things when I try to take a linear-logical approach
Love the ending. The window reflection photo was a fabulous composition. 😍
The ending had me in shambles! 😂
Always fun Matty, Yes! 100!
Freaking great ending hahaha. :P Thanks for the laughter!
My pick would be the Leica X1. I bought this one based on your excellent video, and I have been incredibly happy with it. It is super pocketable, inexpensive, good looking and has great IQ.
That was delightful.
I chose Ricoh and love it! Great video!
Hahahaahah ..... another 100 points for that lovely dog ..... thanks for the video.
Best final conclusion ever!
Fabulous! Love the ending, too!!
I love it!!! Thank you for this, I needed this. 👍📸
I'm surprised you didn't talk about how the screens perform in bright conditions. The the lack of a viewfinder has always made me weary with these compact cameras.
Loved the ending to the video. Love your stuff! Also now I need a Ricoh.
Matthias, King of Photography Reviews, take a bow.
Omg that was epic. Loved it all the way. Thanks for the awesome positivity 😀
Best video yet, and they're all great!
Olympus tg5 great all-round. It's cold here in winter in Canada and in my experience it's perfect.
I love everything about this video, Mattias you are fantastic
I own an X70, pretty happy with it tho. Btw, very cool ending. We need such a sense of humor these days.
LOL, never expect that ending, I like it
Fantastic video. Thank you
I love love love how you ended the comparison!👏👏👏
Will there ever be a Ricoh GRII successor?
With some minor improvements, it could be THE camera is was looking for (to me it's the closest thing to the things I like about something like a Ricoh GR1v, with the ease of the modern digital era opposed to shooting film).
Possibly. It is a good seller. Expect the 24MP sensor from the K-3II/KP in the GRIII next year I would guess.
Well, it's anybody's guess.
All I know is... it was on sale during Black Friday... and I found it too hard to resist. Just gotta get some sort of additional lens cap now.
rumors say its coming out in Photokina this year
In a few months.
It’s out. iii
The end had me laughing, well done! I love my GR, but I have to admit that Leica is a beautiful camera.
